Psycho and Barb Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 Just did a B2B on the Wonder of the Seas and we thought the ship rolled a lot more than other Oasis class ships we have been on.......We have been on the Oasis, Harmony, Allure. The first week it was like sailing on a lake with perfect conditions. However, the ship had a noticeable roll feeling and Captain Rob claimed there was nothing wrong with the ship during the captain's corner. Anyone else noticed this on their sailing on the Wonder? Ryan79 Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 Maybe it was the sea conditions and not the ship? Quote
jeffmw Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 I'm no expert on these things -- and there are people on here and other places online that are -- but I suppose it's possible the stabilizers may be slightly different since the Wonder is newer and maybe the system doesn't work quite as effectively? I don't know if the stabilizing system on the Wonder is identical to the other Oasis ships. It wouldn't surprise me if the technology was slightly different. But more than likely it was just the sea conditions. ChessE4 1 Quote

ScooterScott22 Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 We had nothing on Wonder to note. For the Oasis class, we have been on Oasis, Harmony, Allure and Wonder. Only on Allure did we really notice any motion. It was only for a day or two and it was long rolling intervals, so it was probably just the sea conditions for us. My guess is that is what you were experiencing. Quote
tonyfsu21 Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 I will comment Sunday night when we are heading South towards Coco Cay on Wonder. I hope that beast doesn’t roll because it’s going to mess up my balance in the casino and cost me money. Quote
AshleyDillo Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 I have been on her 3 times now and I definitely feel the rolling more than I have on other ships. Quote
Hoppy2BHere Posted March 16, 2023 Report Posted March 16, 2023 We were on the Thanksgiving 2022 sailing of Wonder. We had a medical emergency onboard that couldn’t be airlifted. They started to try to make a high speed run to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. Man, it started rocking and rolling like no other oasis class ship we had been on. It appeared to be making everyone onboard woozy. I think that was part of the reason why they decided to slow down and turn back to Puerto Rico. We don’t normally have any issues at all with movement. It seems to have this kinda slow cyclic rock that gets worse at speed. Well that’s my $.02 on the subject. Anyone else onboard for that trip?… Quote
asquared17 Posted March 16, 2023 Report Posted March 16, 2023 welp. this is my official note to stay clear of wonder dougalsgirl 1 Quote
Hoppy2BHere Posted March 16, 2023 Report Posted March 16, 2023 Of note: I wouldn’t call it a deal breaker, but it is/was noticeable to us… Quote
WAAAYTOOO Posted March 16, 2023 Report Posted March 16, 2023 I find this very interesting. There must be a design difference, judging from the numerous comments. I would not have thought about a difference in ship motion. asquared17 1 Quote

Not sure I’m buying into this at all. The design of the ship is standard Oasis class with some deck tweaks. I can’t imagine this is much of an issue. asquared17 1 Quote
JohnK6404 Posted March 16, 2023 Report Posted March 16, 2023 None of the six of us felt unusual or excessive motion back in January (excluding the last sea day which we had high winds and waves), but none of us are sensitive to motion. We've sailed Oasis and Allure prior and we did not notice a difference. We're sailing Wonder again this October... will keep that in mind and see if we notice it this time. asquared17 1 Quote
ChessE4 Posted March 16, 2023 Report Posted March 16, 2023 Haven't been on the Wonder yet, but I am in the minority of guests who enjoy a little roll, a chance to use my sea legs. Hope it doesn't affect performers... Quote

Hope it doesn't affect performers... I like just enough roll to "feel" that I'm on a ship. I don't have another Oasis class experience to compare it with, but on Wonder we kept forgetting we were on a ship at all as we hardly felt any movement. Quote
putinbay Posted March 17, 2023 Report Posted March 17, 2023 We were on the Wonder last March (2022). We were the second ever sailing. We did not feel the boat move at all. WAAAYTOOO 1 Quote
tonyfsu21 Posted March 23, 2023 Report Posted March 23, 2023 Day 4 on Wonder and I don’t notice any more roll then any other Oasis class ship. jp1 and Neesa 2 Quote
twangster Posted March 23, 2023 Report Posted March 23, 2023 Unless someone sails each ship 100 times the sample size is too small to declare anything from a handful of sailings. "Flat" seas are still subject to swell. Waves are not swell. One ship can sail a route and experience swell then the very next day another ship following the same route in the same position may not experience any swell. That doesn't make the second ship more "stable". That's the way the oceans work. All ships regardless of size are subject to swell. Quote
ScottD Posted March 23, 2023 Report Posted March 23, 2023 On Oasis last month and we had a real rough night, swaying heavily. I was watching my lanyard that was hanging on the wall go back and forth all night long. So I think it really just has to do with the water at the time Quote
acordj132 Posted July 4, 2024 Report Posted July 4, 2024 On wonder now. You can notice a fast back and forth movement. But it’s barely noticeable. I have to sit still to notice it. OCSC Mike 1 Quote
dustfsu Posted July 4, 2024 Report Posted July 4, 2024 Well the captain has control of the stabilizers, so maybe he thought he didn't need to use them. They cause the ship to use more fuel and energy when they use them. Maybe if he got word people were feeling sick he could of tried to adjust them. It could also just be the way the waves were coming across the ship effecting it along with the direction of the wind. Quote
Geezer Of The Seas Posted July 4, 2024 Report Posted July 4, 2024 Does any other Oasis class ship ride on the 'bubble cushion' feature employed on Wonder? Maybe that's the difference? When we sailed last April the (Eastern Caribbean itinerary) the only way to describe the seas was 'mild' down and back until we were off the Florida coast with a pretty good wind out of the South/Southeast, which was a smooth ride at that point. We absolutely noticed the gentle side to side roll (our cabin was Deck 9 midship, portside). Bubble cushion, ballast distribution, who knows? Was a surprise for such a huge ship............... Quote

NAT GEO had a cruise video some years ago featuring that technology, so it isn't brand new. But it may have been enhanced in more recent ships. Not an engineer... Quote
michaelp1446 Posted July 5, 2024 Report Posted July 5, 2024 The "bubble cushion " has nothing to with smoothness of ride but instead is for fuel efficiency. The air cushion reduces friction. I believe all the Oasis class ships may have this system. ChessE4 1 Quote
