How much luck with Royal Up?

That's good to know.  Crown Loft wasn't on offer for Royal Up (for me anyway).  I had Owner's Loft and Grand Loft.  So I just opted for the other two available for bid: Owner's Suite and Grand Suite.  I'm already in Junior Suite.  I figured I'd like guaranteed seating at the Coastal Kitchen and free internet.  Hubby is getting aggravated with the food on cruises.  I figure if I can't get him some decent food on this cruise, I might be in trouble lol

You shouldn’t have cancelled the crown loft suite as there is no “butler/genie” associated with that level. The loft suites are great!

There are no Crown loft suites on the Odyssey or any Quantum & Quantum plus ships.

Bid a couple of times, haven't won.

Most recently, had a back to back or two part cruise. Got a Royal Up email for the second half, didn't really want to change rooms if I won so I didn't bid. Of course about two weeks later, I got a Royal Up email for the first half. Well, doh!!! Didn't bid on that one either since it was too late to bid on the second half or risk winning one and not the other. The system is just not very cognizant of consecutive cruises.

I have multiple bids out for Freedom this weekend. This will be a rare occasion that we are not sailing over a holiday so maybe we will have better luck. I have decent bids on Owner Suite and Royal Suite. Really would like to try the Royal Suite on Freedom this time around! Either way, it’s going to be fun.

Update: did not win on any of my royal up bids. It’s been a great weekend on Freedom though!

So glad you enjoyed it! You don't happen to know if ANYONE won those suites, do you? Someone wrote that they might put suites on RoyalUp just in case someone cancels last minute... Not that they're actually available when we bid.  I'm trying to lower my expectations lol.

Freedom looks fun! I haven't been on any of these amped up ships yet. Can't wait to get on Odyssey next month. Happy cruising!!

The ships are sailing at full capacity so I don’t think there was a chance of winning. I’ve won many times in the past but my luck has run out. You will enjoy Odyssey, that is one great ship!

Were there even any suites available to upgrade to?

That's what I was asking about the Freedom.  Sounds like they're at full capacity.  So no.

If you're asking me if there were suites that RoyalUp said I could bid on, then yes.  Grand Suite 1 and 2 br.  Owners Suite, Owners Loft Suite (I didn't bid on this one), Grand Loft Suite.  but none are available to book for a new person trying to cruise.

Now I need to go see the benefits of using a travel agent.  I always just book online.  off to that thread 🙂

It wouldn’t matter if this was the 1st or 50th cruise, there still may not be suites available to book. If you are going to book a suite for a “reasonable” rate this is done at least 1-2 years in advance of the sailing date otherwise it’s Royal Up because they sell out quick. A travel agent wouldn’t necessarily make much of a difference as they don’t hold back suites for AMEX cardholders or travel agents or anyone as far as I know.

I found your post while trying to set my expectations on how early I might win one of my Royal Up bids (offered 2 months before our sail date).  That ship is the Odyssey, so was really happy to see your comment about it! 🙂

I've won two royal ups one in October '21 and just won one for our cruise coming up on the 24th. The first was for a family cruise and my two girls got upgraded from an inside to a balcony. The second was not as extravagant we won a spacious oceanview balcony over the standard balcony which we are very pleased about, standard balconies are a bit tight. Both bids were bare minimum.

We cruise often and gamble. We always get the Royal Up offers. I have never won one yet. This is at the max bid every time. This time is from a JS to all the suites above it. Six days to go and still don't know about this one.

No luck lately for me. I also bid max normally from either balcony or JS to all suites through star class and haven’t been successful.

What was the verdict? Better question is how was your luck in the casino?

Wonder of the Seas Thanksgiving 2023 RU from GS to CLS, OS, AT2BR, RLS. Hoping for a victory after many failed attempts lately.

Good luck @tonyfsu21!

We have placed many RoyalUp bids too, some midway (didn't win), some max bids (also didn't win), and we got lucky on Wonder with a minimum bid!

I would be very happy with a RU win on a Holiday sailing. I tried every version of bidding you mentioned to change things up since the process is a mystery to all. Also, had La Bamba takeout for dinner last night and that place is still consistently great!

We've been really lucky with our RU bids! We start with a "free" cruise offer from the casino usually a balcony or jr. suite. Then we submit offers to several suites, and so far i think we've won every time. I say "won" because of course this makes our free cabin not free at all?!? But, we're very happy to pay a little to cruise in a beautiful suite. So far, we've won RU bids for a crown loft (twice), and royal crown loft (once), an owners suite (once) and grand suites (twice). I think our bids are usually in the mid'range.....

We sail almost always on a Holiday which changes everything especially Thanksgiving and NYE on Oasis class ships. Hoping for the best but it’s probably not going to happen. I normally use free casino cruises for weekend voyages on Freedom which is a little easier to upgrade from JS to GS or OS on a random weekend.

7 days out. Hoping to relive the old days of RU and get some upgrade news by mid week. Thinking about cancelling the Star Class bids and keeping OS and CLS in the rare case we actually win since we are sailing with my entire family and don’t need the Genie. I feel like we are positioned well win or lose in GS so I’m not sweating it. Looking forward to another awesome week on Wonder!

New to cruising.  Does the Royal Up feature apply to suite class too.  I.e. we are booked in an Owners Suite for Oasis (Sky Class I believe).  Would we be eligible and what is up from that, lowest Star Class Suite I suppose?  Frankly, really like the layout of the Owners suite.

It should be the loft suite,by the way I these are the only ships that have sea class, sky class, star class(royal suite class)

Owners suite is pretty great. I prefer the loft suites for sky class because on Oasis class they are on deck 17. I don’t care much for star class at all other then the staterooms like the aquatheatre or royal loft suite which are great! The genie is a bit much for my family.

Actually, while I personally don't consider it an upgrade, the OS is usually priced higher than a crown loft (if we are talking about Oasis class ships). So if someone is already booked in an OS, their next options for RU will likely be: 1 BD ATS (not star), UPS (on the ships that have that), 2 BD ATS, Star Loft, GPS/OPS (on the ships that have those), Villa (on the ships that have those), UFS, and the RLS.

If it's Quantum class, and someone is booked in an OS, then their options would likely be: Sky loft (not star), Grand Loft, Owners Loft, and RLS.

I am of the same thinking as @tonyfsu21. I would rather take a CLS on Deck 17 any day over an OS just because the lofts are all up on Deck 17. Now, this changes for Wonder and Utopia because of the layout, but I still like my lofts any day over the other cabin layouts.

On Independance next month (1st cruise ever). Currently in a balcony room with key. Worth it to try to Royal Up to JS or GS? Thanks in advance.

First keep in mind that being allowed to bid is no guarantee and there is no guarantee you will win. And second whether something is "worth it" is up to the individual.

That being said there aren't any real perks to a JS on that class of ship. The GS will get you hh: drinks and some snacks during a set time each evening. But you have the Key, so its really more about a possible bigger room.
