mworkman Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 What is your best guess, based on the information given as to what will happen in this scenario? Cruise is booked out of Boston and return for 10 nights sailing to PORTLAND, MAINE SAINT JOHN, NB (BAY OF FUNDY) SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA CORNER BROOK, NEWFOUNDLAND CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA BAR HARBOR, MAINE. With possible ports being closed in Canada for 2020. Do you think she will sail? And if so, Where could she sail for 10 days from Boston and back? Or do you think the cruise would be canceled completely? PORTLAND, MAINE SAINT JOHN, NB (BAY OF FUNDY) SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA CORNER BROOK, NEWFOUNDLAND CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. JLMoran Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 From Boston, could go to Bermuda for a couple days, then swing up to Newport, RI; Portland, ME; Bar Harbor, ME Chadster, RCIfan1912, Baked Alaska and 1 other 4 Quote
Chadster Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 My cancelled 9-night June cruise out of Cape Liberty was originally: Cape Liberty --> Sea Day --> Boston --> Portland --> Bar Harbor --> St. John --> Sea Day --> Halifax --> Sea Day --> Cape Liberty but then, the Canadian ports got dropped in favor of another sea day and an overnight in Bermuda. But then, of course, it was cancelled outright. SO, you could possibly get an extra sea day or two and a night or two in Bermuda. RCIfan1912 and mworkman 2 Quote
SpeedNoodles Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 I'm scared for our Brilliance Group Cruise. Either it will be cancelled or Mr. SpeedNoodles won't agree to go. Either way, I'm crying. WAAAYTOOO, YOLO, Baked Alaska and 4 others 7 Quote
Lovetocruise2002 Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 I am almost positive our July 15th sailing on Adventure isn't happening. Mentally preparing for the loss already. This sailing is a tough one to swallow for me personally. Booked it almost two years ago, scored an unbeatable deal on a category VP (a room category that I have been so looking forward to trying out), great port intensive itinerary with ports I have never visited, $18 DX, great drops on all excursion, Phantom on Broadway tickets pre-cruise, and most importantly, 9 nights kid free with Hubby. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper yesterday after Carnival's announcement. That to me is pretty much the nail in the coffin. And there is not Plan B for this one in 2021. So at the earliest it will be 2022 before I can replace it. And then who knows what pricing will be like. I am so sad... Baked Alaska, CFL, Chadster and 7 others 10 Quote

This year’s summer and fall tourist season in Canada for non-Canadian visitors is toast, especially as the 14-day quarantine requirement on arrival will continue for the months to come. The outbreak will not yet be contained, by the time the decision to extend port closures in Canada beyond July 1st is made. The grim projections for high numbers of daily deaths in the U.S. (released by the White House this week) extends to the end of June. As for Canada, Newfoundland will not even permit other Canadian tourists to visit for now. P.E.I. is tentatively considering opening up to a regional “bubble” with New Brunswick - both having taken a strict approach to controlling who enters (and which will not be quick to welcome tourists yet.) Nova Scotia will not risk a fresh outbreak either. All of these Maritime provinces are closely watching what is happening in Québec - with Montreal not having their numbers under control either, and knowing full well that the outbreak in Montreal was made worse there by rapid spread originally from NYC (through several well-documented gatherings.) Canada is heeding warnings of the strong likelihood of a second wave coming to us in the fall. All of our efforts is in making sure that our health system is not stretched beyond capacity, as long as no effective treatment or vaccine exists. This is the focus of Canada’s and of its provinces’ public health efforts, that guide policy-making decisions. Cruises will not be happening in Canada this season. As my Ottawa-based doctor quipped to me yesterday: “your next cruise will be on the Rideau Canal.” Quote

The question is can Brilliance dock at all the ports in Bermuda? If my memory serves me right i believe Serenade did a Bermuda sailing only, but it was 7 days. Quote
GrandmaAirplane Posted May 6, 2020 Report Posted May 6, 2020 Bermuda will be another destination to watch, as they implement their recently released phased-in approach to re-opening. They have always had a more ‘up-market’ focus for their tourism promotion, and may well re-open to fly-in tourists before cruisers. It will be a matter of balancing the bringing in of the highest tourist dollars (i.e. golf/yacht/spa tourists) vs. risk to public health. The bottom line is that for the next few months, any cruise originating from a U.S. port will be perceived as being a risk factor for bringing in a highly contagious virus into a fragile system. And for Bermuda, this perception may jeopardize their attractiveness as a destination for fly-in tourists in the short-term. Quote
mworkman Posted May 14, 2020 Author Report Posted May 14, 2020 Now I’m in more of a quandary of what will become of our next cruise, I don’t see it happening based on Canada’s stance of not allowing Cruise ships to port in their country. We don’t have any options at this time for a lift and shift, no cruise like it on the books. Quote
WAAAYTOOO Posted May 14, 2020 Report Posted May 14, 2020 @Matt needs to give us a head’s up - whether he will Lift & Shift the blog group cruise to a 2021 date if it gets cancelled ! Matt, YOLO, Chadster and 4 others 4 3 Quote
CrznTxn Posted May 14, 2020 Report Posted May 14, 2020 I still have a mid-June cruise and July cruise booked. I'll hold out to the bitter end and hope I can get out of Dodge for a break. I can't take much more of these 14 hour work days at home because they know I am stuck here. At least we have been informed that our local Casino will open on June 1st. Laying out by the pool there is not like in the middle of the Caribbean but is better than the pool at the house. Chadster, WAAAYTOOO and Baked Alaska 2 1 Quote

Dani25 Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 I know that Maine is not allowing cruise ships to dock this summer. I wonder about Boston, also. We are still under a stay at home order and are expecting an announcement tomorrow about the reopening plan. I wouldn't be surprised if cruise ships can't dock in Boston this summer, either. We've been hit pretty hard here. Quote
