Cruised Allure in Oct 2012.  We loved the Dazzles club, but they allowed smoking in the club at the time.  Would/could not do trivia or the Michael Jackson tribute party because of the smoke.

Is smoking still allowed in Dazzles on Harmony?

No worries now...not allowed anywhere on any ship inside except for  the casino..

You'll be able to make it to the MJ tribute party  now...

What did ppl do back in the 80's when they travelled?  For that matter how did  ppl ever go outside their own house or yard.....

It didn't affect me (even though now my lungs are crap because my parents were chain smokers and I was trapped in the car all of the time with tons of smoke) - I could still be around it even if I didn't like it.  I did have friends who did have major reactions to it though. To call someone a snowflake because they have to be hauled off to the ER is just disrespectful.  Nobody chooses to have respiratory distress. Nobody wants 2 cops, 2 medics and 3-4 firefighters showing up at their house due to a respiratory emergency. Come sit along on some of my 911 calls where people can barely give me an address because they can't say more than a word or two because they can't breathe and then call them a snowflake.

Wasn't referring to you..and it wasn't just the smoking issue. In my defense...I took puffers every day and had visits to the hospital as a kid, but here I am.

Being in a confined room/car for 18 years with parents that smoke..is NOT the same as putting up with some smoke for an hr at a bar on a ship or wherever.

There are extreme examples of anything and everything of course...but yes, our society has become a snowflake one. In every way possible.

The amount of pollutants that the cruise ship puts off is insane. I wonder how many people are affected or killed by that.....airplanes as well. Noone NEEDs to smoke and no one NEEDS to cruise or fly so........

I will say that my mom was a 2 pack a day smoker.  I spent all my growing up smelling like an ashtray and not worrying about smoke.  Flash forward to now and I can’t walk through the smoky casinos without gagging.  I very used to being smoke free.  Could I and did I survive...yes.  Do I want to...no.  In regards to the original post I spent a glorious couple hours in dazzles on allure last month dancing to 80s music and no smoking at all!  Enjoy your cruise @wstephensi!!!   Jane

Former smoker here, and I cant stand the smell of it, it also gives me headaches.  When I smoked I became used to it.  Now after close to 10 years of not smoking I cant stand being around it.  My dad smoked and I was stuck in the smoking area of airplanes, restaurants, in the car, in our house.  I fully agree that culture has become what I was calling "baby gated" before I heard the term snowflake.  But, people not wanting to have cigarette smoke around them is something I do not throw into that category.   The smell is very offensive, the stink sticking to your clothes.  Others shouldn't have to deal with that just so smokers can get their fix.  Im not saying ban it 100% but contain it to a few places.

We are lucky here in the UK no smoking inside on ships, which makes some areas mainly the casinos out of bounds for us on cruises out of the US, needs to be banned, smoking kills passive smoking kills but that’s just my opinion.

Truth is there are people in the world that it could literally kill them to be breathing in 2nd hand smoke.  They are not snowflakes for not risking their life.  I hope you realize how offensive your comment was and think a little more next time before typing such garbage.

For sure..but hanging out in a 2 level space on a cruise ship to watch a show will not kill 99.99% out there...it prob wont kill anyone to be honest. Better chance of dying in the Windjammer from choking on a piece of steak...lol

If you read the sentence I stated about snowflakes, it was a generalization about society and I listed other examples.

But yes, we are snowflakes when it comes to everything. The very fact that you are offended by me stating that, perfectly fits the definition of a snowflake.

Just cause you don't like it or agree, doesn't make me wrong or make you right.

I wonder how many people died on cruise ships from 2nd hand smoke till 2013 when they banned it??.......Must have been a death epidemic back in the 50's-90's with all that 2nd hand smoke in restaurants, ,malls, cars, airplanes, buses, trains.......

And to be honest..if your medical situation is that bad..where just breathing in some second had smoke will cause you to fall down and die on the spot, I recommend not to venture out of your hospital room or house.

Wow you really have no understanding or care of what passive smoke does to non smokers.but then again why I am surprised?

I agree that some people go over board with the 2nd hand smoke issue. You are not going to die by spending an hour around someone who smokes a couple of cigarettes. All people can be offended by something, I wonder how many complaints there are of someone upset because a person got drunk and acted stupid while sitting at the MDR. Or intoxicated in one of the bars and dropped a drink on someone. People can complain about everything now a days but it’s not gonna kill them. If you don’t like the smell of smoke in a place where it’s allowed either just suck it up for the little time you will be there or just don’t go there. If it ever gets banned than smoker will have to suck it up also or not go where smoking is banned these are little things that don’t need to be blown out of proportion. I think casinos are somewhere than anyone should be allowed to smoke, if they are already allowing other vices such as gambling and alcohol what is wrong with cigarettes. But the great thing is everyone can have there own opinion and feel free to share their thoughts.
