I've been to both.  The Mayan ruins are better at Costa Maya.  Both Costa Maya and Cozumel have shopping areas at the pier that are pretty nice.
As mentioned before, Cozumel is an older port and has many more excursions.  Most people enjoy some flavor of beach day there.  I'm not a beach person, so I usually stay on the ship.  That said, I enjoyed the Atlantis submarine while I was there. I was disappointed by the "Mayan Ruins, Island Tour and Beach" tour when I was there last month.

Just there to both ports last week sailing Western Caribbean itinerary on Celebrity Equinox. Right now you can't tour independently at either port. Only way to leave the ship in Cozumel was with a ship's excursion. Costa Maya has a large shopping area adjacent to the pier. You can go there but not outside .... not much outside anyway.
Quintana Roo is in condition red based on viral prevalence. Nothing will reopen in these two ports until that changes. Recommend you follow Mexico's public health web site for updates. Don't book private tours until the COVID status changes. Ship's tours are reasonably priced and a safe way to tour either port. 

Taxi needed.
There's not-so-great beaches near the port in Cozumel, but I would not recommend them.  A 10 minute taxi ride is well worth it.
In Costa Maya, you need to take a taxi to get to the beach.
Both ports have a large shopping area attached to where the ship docks.  Shopping is better in downtown Cozumel.

We will be there in 55 days. We love the beach, so we are doing the all inclusive Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel. There definitely is a lot to do in Cozumel. As for Costa Maya? Not sure as we have never been there. I think we will just "wing it" for that port. @Mattlike a place called Maya Chan (sp?) I think that is also a pay as you go beach place. Looks like the port is HUGE, so there may be plenty to do there as well.

The same goes with mine! I received mine at our local convention center and the only thing that is handwritten are the dates. My husband went to CVS and they wrote the dates and location.
I just logged into my online chart with my doctor's office and printed the page showing when I got the two doses. I'm adding it with my vax card! We leave on Adventure from Galveston in 93 days and I am not about to risk being denied boarding! We have waited far too long to this! It's so sad that people are creating fake vax cards because they are beginning to ruin it for others ☹️ ?

It'd be cool if they found a way to integrate FitBits into this process.  So many people are already wearing them anyway!

I've also been able to use the 10% and a $100 OBC reward. I took a break from MyVEGAS for a while, but now I'm back and continuing to play, and have a nice amount of reward points socked away for if and when new RC rewards come sailing along.

My husband and I have been into Palomas lately (tequila-we prefer espolon, grapefruit juice and soda water or Fresca)!

Indeed, I was sad I couldn't get the casino freeplay on top of the 10% off.  Grats on the free-ish cruise tho.

My husband was lucky enough to "win" the "free" cruise. Granted this isn't the itinerary or ship we would like, but for the price it will be just fine  (especially after this past year)?
When we called to book the cruise we asked about cabin upgrades. If we kept the inside cabin, we would have only paid about $98 (tax and port fees). We decided to upgrade to a balcony cabin and only paid $469!
On our cruise last January, I had enough saved up to get a $50 on board credit (I think my husband did too and we were able to combine to get $100 OBC). I tried to get the $100 OBC for this cruise and unfortunately you can only redeem one benefit/person/booking.

I just posted this in the news and rumor section. However, I read in an article on Google that her traveling companion was vax and she wasn't, that's how the crew member got mixed up. I have no sympathy for them as she claims she asked multiple times if unvax got bracelets. I mean it was spelled out on everything she did and read way before check-in. She got exactly what she deserves and I hope she get banned.

Covid is never going away. You can continue to live in fear or grab life by the horns and go for it. I’m approaching 5 years cancer free from stage 4b endometrial cancer. I had a 15% chance of making it. I’m here and ready to cross off my bucket list cruises. I’m a firm believer that when it’s your time, it’s your time. I’ve stared down death. It wasn’t my time. Too bad more people don’t see life that way. No regrets baby! Hurry up October! Here I come Symphony! 

This is going to get reported for at least the next month or so and then hopefully will just not be interesting anymore. 
 
Bottom line: there are going to be cases. We’ve seen the protocols work exactly as planned for 2 cruises now. 
 
All the people freaking out (mostly on Facebook) really should just stay home. Those that are comfortable and believe in the protocols climb aboard. 

Selfishly i prefer celebrity's protocols. I believe young unvaccibated kids don't need to wear masks ( or at least that's what it used to be) and that would benefit our family.

I just can't see too many unvaccinated adults on these cruises. We all have a passion for cruising that may be seen as a bit nuts by non-cruisers, but someone adamant enough not to get the vaccine doesn't strike me as someone that'd be more than happy to wear a mask all day long on vacation
