I have the setsail pass on the app. But I see on the website and confirmation emails where it says to be sure to print your setsail pass. Is this true? Do I need a paper copy? And if so how do I access it on my computer to print it?

If you have it on your app then you don't HAVE to have a paper copy but most of us prefer to have both.  There is a "print" function on the website that allows you to print your SSP

    Genie Assignment

We received an email from Andres Villarreal last evening. He will be our genie on our upcoming cruise. I've read some very good things about him, so this is exciting.

I know that there is quite a bit of debate about whether or not the pre-cruise survey is actually read by the genie - and now I have proof. In the survey (which was sent to only to my husband's email address), I had asked them to include my email address in all future genie communication. Not only did we *both* get the email from Andres last evening, but in the body of the message he asked that I provide him with my parents' cabin number. Nice attention to detail. We're off to a great start!

I'm currently working on our email reply, and will update with more details once available.

Are you going to do a live blog ??  Please, please.

  3. It has been my experience that the seas out of Bayonne can be rough...no matter what time of the year it is.  I wouldn't think that it would be bad enough to abandon your plans to sail out of Bayonne though.   Even though there is always a possibility of spring storms, I would think that April would be on the safe side, as far as months to sail out of the NY area.  We hit a nor'easter a number of years ago sailing out of Bayonne and had one hell of a rough few days but I don't think you have to worry about that in April.  I think you would be a-ok.

    Concierge Lounge ⭐⭐⭐
The lounge fell short for us. The hours of concierge staff are very limited, there is no access to beverages such as pop or bottled waters outside of their happy hours. We had lunch delivered there and had to run back to our suite for our beverages. DCL concierge lounge was open from 6am-10pm daily and always staffed by 1-2 concierge staff who could take care of any requests right away. You had access to all non alcoholic beverages during opening hours.  It seemed like an under utilized space the 4 or 5 times we were there.

I completely agree with Sabrina on this one.  The Concierge Lounge is a really awful space on Anthem - one of the few true deficiencies of Anthem, IMO.  Frankly, I'm surprised you even gave it 3 stars.  When you try the Oasis class ship you will see a tremendous difference in convenience, proximity (if you stay on deck 17) and availability.  I think you will also like the CK better on the O class even though the menu is exactly the same.  It is just a much "happier" space on the O class - big, bright and the views are much better.  It is also much more popular and can sometimes be crowded...so there's that.  But the Star Class guests have "reserved" tables (at least we did, on Oasis at the first of the month) so there is never any real wait.

    - If you have purchased the drink package, TAKE IT EASY on Day 1. You don't want to spend Day 2 and maybe 3 with a hangover.

    - Also, don't purchase the drink package on board, unless you can finagle a much better price than what they're listing.

    - Don't try to do everything. You won't be able to.

These are EXCELLENT suggestions !  Particularly #1.  I see soooo many people pounding the drinks on the first day/night, knowing that they are going to be sorry the next day.

Another option is to reach out to Royal and ask specific questions. I used their Facebook site to chat with them to get an "official" answer regarding the status of certain venues, and the interpretation of the number of times per day you can dine etc.. I gave them specific examples in order to get more detailed answers, as initially the rep wasn't much clearer than the printed material. From our chat: "you'll be able to dine in any restaurant on your sailing as many times as you want based on availability. Playmakers [on Oasis, which is what I was asking about] is also now included. Playmakers is considered an a la carte venue and guests will be given a $35 food credit each time they dine." Experiences and activities such as Chef's Table or classes are discounted but not included. I specifically asked about Vintages tapas, and they are not included. I also asked what the best way was to resolve any issues, and the rep said to go to guest services or speak to a crew member at the specialty dining restaurant. I printed the chat transcript and put it in my folder in case I needed it on board. The details on the UDP was too vague for my taste, so I preferred not to leave it to chance. Happy dining!

This is such a great suggestion b/c I have read waaaytooo many accounts of people getting conflicting information on the SAME cruise !  The best ammunition you have is written confirmation. It’s hard for the crew on the ship to argue with written confirmation.

Is there a reason why Oasis/Quantum Class ship does not allow passengers on the helipad, versus like on other Class of ships?

Of course, nobody on this blog can answer this question for sure BUT my guess....the Oasis class ships have big “vents” that open in the helipad area.  I think they are associated with the bow thrusters but I don’t really know what function they serve.  They open quite suddenly (at least, to us it seems sudden) and I imagine that they are considered a safety risk.  They are quite large and present an unguarded edge and a pinch point.  This, along with other factors, I’m sure, is likely to be the primary reason passengers are normally not allowed in that area.  The truth ?  Who knows ?

@WAAAYTOOO  Gotcha, if we get the UDP, is it included as part of that?

Which of course then brings up the question if the UDP is worth it on LOS with only 3 specialty restaurants, thoughts?

Yes, if you get the UDP the embarkation lunch is included.  Whether it’s worth it or not is a subjective question.  We always get the UDP b/c we no longer enjoy the MDR but I will be the first to admit that with just 3 specialty restaurants, it can get repetitive.  We love the full service Sabor so we really enjoy the UDP on Liberty.

  9. No worries.  All questions are welcome.

Unfortunately, the only meal of the day that is complimentary in Chops as a result of being in a full suite, is breakfast.  If you want to eat at Chops on embarkation day, and you do not have The Key, you can ask your Concierge to make reservations for you and pay full price, which would be (assuming it is the same price as it’s showing for my Sept 2020 cruise on LoS) $21.99 + 18% gratuity per person.  It’s a nice way to enjoy lunch onboard on embarkation day.

We will take Lyft. I have never used Lyft or Uber so this is another new adventure. I’m going to try and take pictures to post of our cabin.

Good plan.  Not only will using a hotel shuttle cost you more and be a big hassle, likely the shuttle will not leave early enough, either.  The shuttles usually plan on arriving at the port no earlier than noon b/c they like to avoid the outbound traffic as much as possible.  Likely you will want to arrive by 10:30.

  11. I usually caution people against bidding for a RoyalUp if it is from one balcony category to another balcony category.  I have read of too many people who ended up with a cabin in an undesirable location with little or no upgrade to their cabin or balcony configuration.  IMO there just isn’t enough difference from one balcony to another to justify additional $$.  The single exception to this would be if you are already in a bad location and don’t mind paying more $$ with hopes to get a better location but wouldn’t mind ending up in just as bad of a location as you already are.   If you were to bid on an upgrade to a whole new category, that’s a different story.  But not from one balcony type to another balcony type.
