Jmccaffrey reacted to DunkelBierJay in Status of Empress of the Seas
One of the YouTube channels I watch (that gets it wrong a lot), so I won't mention the name spent 8 minutes on it, most of which was speculation click bait. I REALLY hope Empress is spared. Love that ship.

I hope its not true but you need to take everything said during company earnings calls and within their SEC filings with a grain of salt. No company will reveal any future plans until they are 1000% definitive and the statements made almost always allow wiggle room so anything is possible.
The below link is to a ship brokers website where if you scroll down you'll recognize several Royal ships (newer and bigger than the Empress and Majesty) that could be sale if the price is right. These listings are from before COVID even materialized. Royal's business plan is the mass market, any opportunity to remove smaller lower margin ship to free up capacity for newer larger ships or in the post-COVID world, remove low margin over capacity will be seriously considered. I'm sure the accountants view this as a great time to take large write-offs associated with the sale/scrapping of a vessel.

While I love the newer larger ships, I do still love both the Empress and Majesty, they are very sentimental to me and every now and then I enjoy the intimacy of a smaller ship. I am very hopeful that Royal can hold onto these ships but every day this pandemic drags on makes that a harder proposition for them.

I agree. RC will hold off getting rid of the smaller ships until at least after the election. Who wins the US election will determined what they will do

Jmccaffrey reacted to USFFrank in Status of Majesty of the Seas
(Like I know anything, but) IMHO Royal needs their 2 smallest ships, Majesty & Empress. Not only are they what's left of the old time cruise experience ships, because of their size they can go to places the others can't. And right now (OK not right now) they do.
I'm looking down the line right now, but for example, if (in the unlikely event) they got rid of Majesty and/or Empress and shortly after that we we're allowed to cruise to Cuba again, what's Royal to do? Build new Sovereign size ships so they could go there?

Jmccaffrey reacted to Cruising With JT in More Princess cancellations
Probably more cancellations. If they go bankrupt it won't be announced until they are in the worst case scenario which is Spring 2021 from what I am hearing.

I can see the bankruptcy filings already. I wonder what the announcement from Carnival is going to be tomorrow.

Wonder if Silverseas line is able to spin up faster (get back to sailing) with the smaller ships. They'll have penned up demand too.

Keep in mind, the company has more flexibility now that they own 100% of Silversea Cruises. By using the stock to buy the rest of the company, RC now has more assets on the books if they need to get more debt. ..... In the end by buying this company, RC become stronger financially and more able to weather the out come of coronavirus

Jmccaffrey got a reaction from ehw51 in Royal Caribbean Group acquires remaining interest in Silversea
Friday, June 10, 2020 MIAMI – July 10, 2020 – Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) has purchased the remaining shares of Silversea Cruises, a pioneer and leader in ultra-luxury and expedition cruising.
The move to full ownership comes two years after Royal Caribbean Group acquired a two-thirds share of the cruise line in July 2018.
“Silversea has been a great fit for our company from the very first day,” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “The cultures of the two organizations have proven to be harmonious, and guests have responded favorably to the combination.”
Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, who took over the company from his late father, will serve as chairman of Silversea. Roberto Martinoli will remain the brand’s president and CEO.
“Manfredi and Roberto have brought a fresh point of view to our company, as well as deep knowledge of their brand’s unique audience,” Fain said. “Their skills – and Manfredi’s inimitable style – will continue to play an important role in growing Silversea into the future.”
Said Lefebvre: “The combination of our companies has been everything I hoped for. The skills and resources of Royal Caribbean Group have helped us grow and flourish. We share a vision about the bright future of cruising, and I look forward to being a shareholder in the broader Royal Caribbean Group.”
Added Martinoli: “Thanks to the incredible resources and skills of Royal Caribbean Group, Silversea will grow and thrive. Today marks another key step in our drive to uncontested leadership in ultra-luxury and expedition cruising.”
The remaining one-third stake held by Heritage Cruise Holding Ltd. was paid for in the form of 5.2 million shares of Royal Caribbean Group common stock, which represents about 2.5% of the total common stock.
Perella Weinberg Partners LP served as financial advisor and Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP served as legal advisor to the company regarding this transaction. Barclays Bank PLC served as financial advisor to Manfredi Lefebvre and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP provided legal counsel.
