Interesting. This is the first instance I have ever heard of where you could not get any number of lobster tails in the MDR on lobster night. Hopefully it was just a one-time shortage.
I hope so, my wife makes it her personal mission to impact the lobster population on lobster night.

I sailed 12 cruises since the restart without getting Covid and on cruise #13, 2nd half of a B2B , I tested positive.
Did you start showing symptoms on the cruise or randomly tested? Thats crazy 13 cruises and you got it.

Unvaxxed are able to cruise now (cruises 10 days or less, I believe) but unvaxxed still must test. Vaxxed no longer have to test unless the cruise is longer than 10 days.
I can live with that. 3 years has been far to long and I can't wait to go back.

They have been able to for quite some time now. They did away with the wristband program that identified vaccinated passengers from unvaxxed.
Good to know, we finally will be able to cruise again. Our February 2023 looks like its a go!

We purchased the key on our last cruise and I was pleased with it. I will say that some of the activities they block time off for Key members was kind of a joke. 7 night cruise and only 3 hours total blocked off if I remember right. Having the internet, priority embarkation and disembarkation and reserved seating for shows was a huge plus for us. I would buy it again at the right price.

Whatever the cost is our last couple of dinners at chops were amazing. One of the best steaks I've ever had.

Does anyone know with all the recent changes are Unvax passengers able to access the entire ship with vax passengers? I know at one time they had vax only areas.

You are one person, who may/may not have been cruising with Royal since the restart. I don't think you can make a grand statement that "yes, they will" because of what you do. I know there are some unvaxx on this board who couldn't wait to sail and maybe half will book a cruise or two on the other lines because of these changes. But a majority of people like what they like.
The question would be about people who are booked with Royal leaving/cancelling because other lines have a "better" offer on the table. The grass is not always greener. Just like people are loyal to Royal, you have unvaxxed that are loyal to CCL or NCL. I am sure that is the main reason those lines have seen a massive increase in bookings. If I recall both lines weren't doing as well as RCG with bookings.
I don't think the wait and see approach will be a detriment to Royal. We will moan and groan about the testing until they release the protocols, but I don't think it will make any difference.
I have had to move a couple of cruises and cancel one this year because of the Vax crap. Never even looked at another cruise line. Now that the Vax requirement has been lifted for Galveston we might actually get to go on our Feb 2023 Cruise. Really hope it happens because it will be our first Star class cruise. Point is I've waited and rolled with the changes, whenever we return it will be on a Royal Caribbean ship.

I believe on our last cruise I did the following... We did my time dining and also specialty dining so never had the same wait staff.
5 dollars at every breakfast
10 dollars at every lunch
20 dollars at every dinner.
Dollar a drink or more at once if we were at the bar for awhile.
100 dollars to the room attendant. Seemed to work out well for us.

No more vaccine out of Texas. Starting September 5 sailings although dumb test still required
Updated Protocols
Galveston & Los Angeles 6-Nights or moreWe’ve been diligently working with our destinations and have made great progress towards welcoming all guests onboard our ships.
Our relaxed sailing protocols are confirmed for our departures from Galveston, Texas and Los Angeles, California sailing on or after September 5th, 2022, visiting the Western Caribbean and Mexico. The intention is to work in phases as we relax our protocols. And, as they change, we are committed to keeping you informed.
Vaccination Recommended
We recommend that our guests be fully vaccinated against COVID‐19, if eligible. While vaccination is not required, we kindly ask you disclose your status during check-in to ensure we maintain a highly vaccinated onboard population.
For sailings that visit Grand Cayman: Due to local regulations, unvaccinated guests 12 and older can join our sailing however, they’ll need to stay onboard when we arrive in Grand Cayman.Testing
Pre-cruise
All guests aged 2 and older must present a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 3 days of our sail date — this adds an extra day for our vaccinated guests to test. Additionally, we’ve removed boarding day, mid-cruise, and departure testing.
Accepted Tests
Any FDA‐approved PCR or antigen test supervised in person or supervised by a telehealth professional meet this requirement. To learn more about our accepted tests, visit our FAQ.Check out our Healthy Sail Center for our full sailing protocols
LOL we had to cancel our anniversary cruise out of Galveston for the end of August. Missed it by a week looks like. But we do have another one scheduled for February. We might actually make that one looks like!

Don't try and do everything. You will need a vacation from your vacation if you plan too much. Just go with the flow and be flexible.

Then to get rid of the Vax requirement...
Can't wait for that to happen. Had to cancel our cruise for our anniversary and looks like another one next year will be canceled as well.

I'm not confident that US airlines won't impose a requirement to show you've either been vaccinated or tested negative for COVID to board. The cruise industry has taken the lead here, doing just that. Others will follow if they are following the science and the facts on this. Other venues, some already doing it, will require proof of vaccination to enter.
Here's the problem for the US. As a nation, we are woefully unprepared to leverage technology to insure people moving about aren't spreading SARS2. This isn't rocket science. The EU has been doing it since July. EU citizens can't get around and experience unrestricted mobility and/or behaviors without an EU COVID Certificate. It's digital, has a QR code and can't be forged.
A system like this should be in use in North America to better control the spread of the virus. I'm also an advocate for track and trace apps. The EU has implemented both measures and despite the usual suspects complaining about privacy and big brother, the system is almost universally used. Stupidly, the US can't get it's act together here and make this technology widely used. There is going to be resistance; there's the politics at play ..... again. The legality of this approach here isn't entirely clear (that's already been tested in Europe and it's legal).
This has nothing to do with cruising. If you want to give your freedoms up then by all means move to Europe.

Is there a better way to ask to avoid this? We got a really good price on our GLS so I guess it's possible, but I hate not knowing for sure!
Its possible that because your room category is sold out that it will drive the price up on that specific category. Supply and demand. I got the same answer last night when I called to reprice and the price of the room was a little cheaper but we had 3 or 4 smaller discounts stacked so we actually had a cheaper rate in the end. Sometimes the way they list pricing and word everything can be confusing.

Can you eat whenever you want, as much as you want, as often as you want? Like could I grab a hot dog from the boardwalk hotdog place every hour if I felt so inclined?
By day 5 of a 7 night cruise I'm usually tired of eating
We usually do My Time Dining as it works way better for us.
Ill always snack during the day. If I pass the pizza place, I grab a slice. Pass the ice cream machine, Ill grab a cone ect... We eat whenever we feel like it. Might cruise through the buffet and check it out, might order room service or see if there is room at a specialty restaurant if we feel like it. We just go with the flow and it usually works out great. You will not go hungry I can assure you!

We had the Key on our last sailing and the private hours were a joke to be honest. I did hit the flowrider on the last day for Key members. You want to talk about a lot of pissed off people not understanding why they couldn't get in line for an hour.

I'm with @WAAAYTOOO on this one. Highly doubt a Genie would kick someone out of an excursion that they previously booked, and I would feel awful if they did that. Anyway, there have been a few stories (not often) from other SC cruisers that Genies have been able to secure them spot on sold out excursions. Genie magic? Do they hold back some spots for Star? Who knows, but I have heard a few stories of this happening.
Not a cruising situation but last month at a huge casino I attempted to pay for 2 rooms for myself and some friends that flew in from out of town. I was straight up told that they had rooms but I couldn't have one. Another one of my friends that has gambled ALOT of money there was comped 2 suites.......He with the checkbook usually gets their way, my checkbook wasn't big enough.
Point is its common for rooms or spots to be held back for people that spend more money. Wouldn't surprise me at all if RCCL did the exact same thing.

We bought these lanyards off Amazon and they work great! We ditched the plastic sleeves and had our cards punched at the Terminal. The retractable cord and clip to disconnect it from the lanyard are very very handy.

@CruiseRoyalDad So very well said. As a loyal RC cruiser who also misses cruising very much, RC no longer welcomes me on their ships because I don't have the proper papers. I have perused this blog for a while, reading time and time again posters saying "just let me on a ship", "I'll do anything to cruise again" and then are shocked at some change in protocol which, ultimately, they justify and go along with...
Don't be surprised when the chronic conditions that cruisers have (diabetes, heart condition, COPD, etc) are the next one's that, like me, will be ineligible for cruising. And don't be surprised when your fellow blog members don't give a darn that it's happening.
When you give a mouse a cookie it wants a glass of milk....Its already started and unfortunately its probably to late to go back, especially when people have no clue what's going on.

Thats the best part about cruising, you can do it your way. My wife and I usually go for a balcony room and enjoy the buffet and MDR. We purchase the DBP and sometimes eat specialty dining. We are taking our kids on their very first cruise in Feb 23 on Allure and we went Star Class this time. So we are going to do all the things and eat all the things this upcoming trip. I'm afraid it will be hard to go back lol.
