Ray, How do you propose the testing being done correctly?

Not a doctor or an expert so cannot comment, my post was simply pointing out that it would be a waste of time just doing it when people embark at start but not when they have been on land at a port of call

Who will pay for said testing? If the cost are placed back on the traveler what do you feel is a pair price for said testing?

As stated not an expert but do know how to use spell check ?

I can assume that a family of 4 would be very costly for a 7 day cruise. Three or four ports a test at every stop. Let's say it cost $50 per person =$200 boarding test then $50 at every port for every family member.

Cant comment on figures and wouldnt even guess as this just adds to rumours etc

And if one test positive, does the entire family stay in the Bahamas or wherever the ship has ported?

Not my decision thats for those who make the rules to determine

And the travel insurance doesn't cover that part. This is something we all have to think about. I love cruising but at what cost my friend

Personally i couldnt care about tests, way i see it if im going to get i would rather it was somewhere hot with a cold beer ( not corona ) in my hand

Not to mention how do you social distance at coco cay.

How do you social distance anywhere? Not just on a cruiseship!

As i mentioned at start i dont have the answers in fact no one does, if they did we wouldnt be discusing here!

All i stated was that it would be a complete waste of time only testing once at start then allowing someone off ship at a port of call and they get infected by a local and are not tested when reembarking.

Costs, legal requirements, PPE, Social Distancing thats for the experts and those in charge to work out, if we are not happy with the results we simply dont cruise

  2. It's ok saying test everyone but if they are going to do it then it has to be done correctly, no point testing only once when we first board ship, it must be done every time we re-board from a port of call and before we disembark, which if in UK expect 14 day quarantine rules to be applied tomorrow for all Brits and visitors!

@Ray You might be better off doing a lift and shift. It says all offers, as long as it is the same length, stateroom category and within the 4 week window, will be honored. Which means if you have OBC it should transfer to the next year away booking.

just checked this ...NO southern Caribbean cruises for 7 nights in june/july 2021 that i can see from anywhere, and no cruises from PR listed for those months, so lift and shift isnt an option for me

I wonder if they will ban smoking at least temporarily in the casino post-COVID-19.  I would think touching the chips/cards/slot machine and constantly having your hand close the mouth would put you more at risk.

If 2m rule is in place there wont be that many people in the casino anyway

How many players you going to get at a card or roulette table if 2m rule is followed?

Also Slot machines will need to be switched off so there is a gap.

I hope RC and the cruise industry as a whole can make it out of this and get back to normal even if “normal” is a new normal.

Everyone is in the same boat, waiting to see what the new normal is..

We talk about getting cruises going again asap ( which i also want ) however the way the world is people dont even know if they will have a job as companies outwith the cruise industry may go bust, companies that survive make ask employès to take reduced pay just so they stay afloat.

The Domino effect is that cruise companies, travel agents, airlines, hotels, restaurants etc will probably be the hardest hit simply due to the fact people will have less disposable income for things such as vacations or eating out.

The world as we know it has changed for ever and it will take time to recover.

Scotland has THE WORST drugs problem in Europe as death rate soars and is now higher than the USA and every other country in Europe, and three times the UK average, according to shocking new figures.

Yip ? just as US has the worst Disinfectant death rate in 2020

Now as you have went completely off topic simply due to the fact you didn't read my initial post correctly and you obviously didnt like being told you misread initail post, im just going to ignore your blatant attempts to start any argument simply because its not worth it

Finally, I feel for those people that are part of the class action lawsuit.  I hope they get a lot of money.  Why?  Because in the end this will become the end of their career with any cruise line.  Do they actually think that RCL is going to offer them another contract?  I wouldn't be shocked if the list of names on the class action against RCL does not somehow find its way over to the Carnival and NCL attorneys and than that list somehow finds it way to the HR dept for a DO NOT HIRE list.   Thus, these people signing up for this lawsuit believing in this attorney and not realizing what may occur in the long run.

In all honesty having worked with people from Asia and still have friends from this Area, even a sum of a $30000 settlement would set them up for life back home.

But you live in a country where it's own citizens has no consideration for their fellow man by throwing parties and ignoring lockdown and social distancing rules?   Coronavirus in Scotland: Lockdown house parties 'putting lives at risk' ?  Let's call  Spade a Spade. It''s happening everywhere. No need to single out a particular country.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-52241218

You maybe need to read what i wrote again and try and understand it better, BECAUSE AT NO TIME do i mention Covid-19 in relation to ANY country!!! WHAT  I did say was i couldnt live in US because people sue for any reason even the smallest of things, hence my joke about farting in the wrong direction......

And you are 100% correct with regards all countries not locking down completely,  it was all over our news about those gUys standing outside some Michigan building waving their guns about demanding that lockdown be done away with! We may hold house parties but we dont take to the streets with firearms

  9. Theres no doubt in my mind that when these crew members, who having worked long hours for weeks or even months on end with almost no social life found out about a party onboard with music, free food , drink and the chance to get lucky, that they refused to go and were forced to attend against their will.

Lets not forget that the whole world was on lockdown on the dates mentioned ( not ) that social Distancing measures had been implemented across the globe ( not ) and that the whole world knew what was coming because this virus had been classed as a pandemic ( not )

Honestly this is why i could never stay in the US, i would be scared to go outside in case i farted in the wrong direction and got sued for spoliling someones day

Being very honest, I think it’s only the people here on this board who want cruising to resume. Everybody else??? “Boy do I need a vacation!” Is NOT what they are saying.. It’s more like “I’d really like to get back to my normal routine of a work week, an occasional movie, a meal at a favorite restaurant, and to go shopping without the worry of death.’

I just don’t see a market for vacations anywhere in the near term.

I apologize for the hurt feelings in advance.

This is so true, lots of people will be more concerned with whether they will still have a job not what type of cabin to book once lockdown is lifted.

Also Social distancing will be here for a long time yet, its been stated that it could be up to 2 years before things return to some sort of normality, i cannot comment on other countries but the company i work for in UK has stated that once lockdown is lifted those employees either working from home or on furlough will not all return at same time! They will be reintroduced to the workplace gradually to reduce the risks involved, you only have to look at Japan and Singapore last week to see that even without restrictions being lifted a 2nd wave can hit at anytime.

In my opinion the cruises for the rest of this year ( if they happen ) will probably be half full, yes there are those who will cruise as soon as they can because they want to while others wont due to the risks involved,  however RC may also decide to reduce the capacity of ships to further reduce the risks,  as has been mentioned last thing they need is more bad press.

I just noticed you took the following cruise - Freedom of the Seas - Southern Caribbean - San Juan.  We have that scheduled for Jan 2021.  How was that cruise?  My most enjoyable cruise was a Mediterranean Cruise about 8 years ago.

So far thats been my only cruise ?

    It was unbelievable ?

I did a live semi sober blog on it at the time and it surpassed all my expectations ?

Booked on FOTS for 30th of June 2020 to the ABC Islands ( God Willing ? ) The Uncertainty is driving me crazy lol It's ok RC saying ship will sail but i have so many pieces of the jigsaw that need to fit in place to make it happen and to save me losing roughly £3000!

While each Island may look the same ( It's an Island with green tree's and crystal clear water ) each one is different and amazing ? I am certain you will have a fantastic time

  12. At the time you decided to postpone your trip and take up RC'S cruise with confidence offer the cruise itself was not officially cancelled, T&c'S in relation to this offer states you will receive 100% refund in vouchers to be used on a future cruise.

Only once the cruise was officially cancelled do RC  have an obligation to then offer a full cash refund or as they have done 125% in future cruise credit

Europe is hard to understand because of the high death rate due to covid-19 in western Europe.  It seems like the death rate is what decides how countries respond as compared to the number of cases.

Hard to compare properly when it's not like for like, USA is far bigger than most European Countries in not only population but also size, thus meaning the population of the US is spread out more than in European Countries.

However if you take New York City which has a population larger than some European Countries their figures are not the best reading

    UK POPULATION 2020 : 67,886,011 Death by Covid 19 = 14,576 as of 17/04/20

    NYC POPULATION 2020 : 18,804,000 Death from Covid 19 = 11,477 as of 17/04/20

Now to me NYC is far worse than the whole of the UK due to the %

    SCOTLAND POPULATION 2020 : 5,500,000 Death By Covid 19 = 837 as of 17/04/20

The more an area is built up or has a higher number of people present the higher the risk of contacting the virus

This is why European Countries do not want to open up their doors to early or come out of lockdown without restrictions in place.

Actually i was going to ask " what the hell your original post had to do with cruising when Matt had posted that certain topics were not allowed"

Someone posted about tests being done on flights and how it could be used for cruiseships, straight away you turn it into a world wide conspiracy just to get your DNA.

Im pretty sure thats the type of thing matt is refering to with regards comments not to post.

Theres a time and a place for that type of thing

This isnt the time and this site is definitely NOT the place
