    Tea Time

Interesting, "tea kettles in rooms instead of coffee makers". The only coffee maker I have ever had in my room was room service and I had to stir in the sugar & cream! Tried to get my wife to do it for me, once (nicely I will add), and she quickly told me where I could "stir my coffee".

    Hurricane Irma

Since I started this thread, I'll throw out some comments. Royal has been great keeping us all informed about Irma and the ship's itinerary We're on the way to Jamica and will then head back to Mexico, Costa Maya as Labadee is not an option. The captain indicated that we will dock in FLL no later then Weds am. Based on the schedule adjustments of other sailings, I'd be surprised if we docked any earlier. We're enjoying wonderful weather despite an awful hurricane raging. Kudos to Royal. Best wishes to all those impacted.

  5. Also agree, depending on relationships, the dividing door is a blessing towards the end of the cruise, been there and have done that, if it weren't for being able to close the door for privacy someone might have ended up thrown off the ship, or someone jumping (I'm joking of course). It was my daughter and Son in law...

  6. Agree with BrianAlt. You can find single balcony staterooms that can sleep 4 (I think B1, C1, D3, D4 on Oasis class) but having adjoining rooms provides your group with 2 bathrooms, more space and the option to remove the divider on the balcony so that your group has a double width balcony. If this isn't cost prohibitive, it's the way to go.

    Hurricane Irma

Hey Matt and everyone! I am on Adventure of the Seas right now. We are about to leave Curaçao and go to Aruba tomorrow. The weather is perfect down here and we are far away from Irma. The captain just announced that instead of going to St Kitts on Friday, they are going to cancel that stop and go to Bonaire on Thursday instead and have a Sea day on Friday. We are still expected to be back in San Juan on Saturday, but that could change based on hurricane Irma's damage. They will keep us posted. Just wanted to let everyone know that Royal Caribbean is keeping us informed and out of harms way. Royal has been absolutely amazing all week!

  10. The Royal Caribbean Instagram and Snapchat stories feature the great DanandMoore. Whenever he takes over the RC accounts, I don't miss anything he posts because he is so good at sharing the experience. He is currently on the Explorer Alaska itinerary, and it's amazing to watch. If you aren't already, follow either the IG or Snap stories...it's helping me look forward to the Alaska cruise, and ignore my Harmony GC (not going) blues....

  12. Springhill Suites is nice but a little more money and then Rivers Edge I like too - I'll have to keep in mind Sophie's station as an option too - great topic

  13. We recently did the same tour cruise and stayed at Sophie's Station in Fairbanks. That is the hotel the tour begins in. It is not far from the airport and they provide a shuttle. It is not a 5 star hotel, maybe a 3 + but it was clean, has a restaurant and a bar and there is a food store and a Target-type store within walking distance. The hotel shuttle also runs on a regular schedule to some of the tourist sites close by.

  14. We are currently on this cruise. The weather has been beautiful (except for departure day) and all is well. Hopefully it remains that way ! We're in Bermuda now...will stay overnight and leave tomorrow afternoon. Very enjoyable and relaxing.

  15. Stopped at Beal's Lobster Pier for lunch in Bar Harbor. For the record that was a 2.5 pound lobster with a pound of mussels.

    Hurricane Season, ugh!

I remember warning my sister-in-law about this last year when she told me she was planning her honeymoon. We are in a La Nina weather pattern, which reduces wind sheer and stability over the Atlantic where the strongest storms form. Couple that with especially warm water this year and you end up with a stretch of warm humid air and nothing to disrupt the developing storms. Everything is set up to foster strong storms like Irma this year.
