The Allure of a free cruise.....3 Night March 1st-4th

I'm not a fan of the 3 night cruises especially since I live in Illinois and have to travel.  But on my last cruise I got an instant casino certificate for a free cruise and of course just couldn't turn it down.  There were probably some better options to choose from, but between my wife not having enough vacation time, other vacations already booked like an Icon cruise in August and a Hawaii trip in July, I had to take what I can get.

This cruise is just the wife and I.  The casino comp was for a free interior cabin for 2, so no kids.  I considered upgrading to a balcony, but honestly for a 3 night cruise even though it wasn't much I figured I would rather spend that money elsewhere since we won't be in the room really other than to sleep.

Travel Plans:

Tuesday Feb 27th Chicago to Tampa 7:30PM.  Makes for a late night, but saved a vacation day for my wife.  My Dad will pick us up from the airport and we will stay at his place for 3 nights.

Wednesday and Thursday my wife will work remotely from my dad's house while him and I play a few rounds of golf 😄.  He lives at Innisbrook resort which has 4 different courses.  I will have to do some work as well, but my work is much more flexible on when I need to do things.

Thursday night we will pick up a rental car to have to drive over to PC Friday morning.  I'm usually a pretty early riser and have no issues driving over that morning.

The cruise is going to be some nice alone time for the wife and I.  We rarely get to travel alone.  Between kids and then other family who like to travel with us we always seem to have others along, so will be nice that it's just the 2 of us.

Currently the only things we have planned/booked is access to hideaway beach at PDCC and I got the wife a thermal spa pass so she can enjoy that while I am at the casino.  Hideaway I was able to get for like $26/person so felt this would be a good time to check it out.  Otherwise will probably just be MDR or WJ for most meals and getting in lots of practice hopefully on the flowrider.  I am determined to become half way decent at it 😂.

I hear you big time! But any cruise is better than no cruise!

Practice makes perfect! You will definitely get better. I think of Hubby a year ago, and he has improved so much already.

Looking forward to following along 🙂

Enjoy your time alone together! 😃

We don't have children, but we know that feeling as we usually travel with family and/or friends and we really do enjoy the occasional cruise for just the two of us! Our May sailing will be just my wife and I as well! No coordinating or planning for a larger group as that responsibility usually falls on me!  😎

And to my surprise packing is almost complete.  My wife is a total procrastinator when it comes to this, so for her to get her stuff packed this morning instead of Tuesday afternoon is a total shock.  Since I'm golfing with my dad a few days I also will be taking my golf clubs.  I will be able to leave those at his place since we will go back there Monday before flying out, otherwise I probably would have just rented some.

Thanks. Yeah that is me, the scheduler. Luckily I love cruises so much I don’t mind, but much less stressful this time needing to try and keep others entertained and feel the need to spend time with them. Now we can just enjoy ourselves and do what we want when we want.

That's why I love cruises with just Hubby and I. I barely have to plan a thing. And even less now that he has taken a liking to the FlowRider haha

Enjoy your cruise.  We might see you on the Radiance in July next year. We booked the pre-cruise 8B for June 28 and embark the ship on July 4th.

Enjoy!  Have you done Alaska before?  It is amazing!!  You will miss us, you are a few weeks before us. Our cruise is on the 18th. We plan to do our own interior for 6 nights before and get to Alaska on the 12th.

Bingo! 😃

I don't mind at all being the planner/organizer of the group (usually enjoy it), but it's just nice to not have to compromise at times and focus on just the two of us every now and then!

Please tell me you’re ponying up for the copperhead course.

Well, actually my dad is 😂😂.  I have played there once before with him, but this time should be extra cool. The Valspar is there in about 4 weeks so they are already getting all the stands and stuff put up.

I’m not sure what I’m more jealous about , your cruise or innisbrook golf !

Have you golfed there before?  The island course is really nice too. I don’t think I will be golfing that one this time. Copperhead Wednesday, South course Thursday, and they recently turned the North course into a 9 hole that we will probably do Monday when I get back before flying out late Monday night.

I have not. It’s on the list for sure. Sounds like a great schedule. Enjoy !

And it’s travel day!!  We will leave the house around 3:45pm for the 2 hour trek to Midway. The wife wakes up and asks what the plan is for today 🤦‍♂️ so I remind her that we are leaving at 3:45. I really should have told her 3 as she’s never on time. Anyways she starts freaking out saying she doesn’t know how she’s going to get everything done by then. We’ve only discussed 6 times that we were leaving this afternoon and she had to be off work early.

I find it hilarious how the roles are identical in your house, compared to mine, when it comes to travel, except reversed.

I have already told Hubby many times that we leave on Friday, March 8th. Hopefully he remembers...

Yeah my wife is the person who thinks she’s never late to anything because the party doesn’t start until she gets there. I struggle to convince her that the airplanes and cruise ships don’t care about that 😂😂

A little late night food porn for @OCSC Mike .  My dad had a peach bread pudding waiting for me at his place after he picked us up from the airport. A lovely midnight snack before bed.

Nice. I’ll raise you a Mason Jar bread pudding from Wonder. One of the only brunch items my family didn’t try last time so obviously I have to.

I love that. Parents, still being parents even when their kids are long past grown. Gotta love them.

+1 to that. The only time I gain weight besides a cruise is when we spend extended time visiting my wife's parents. And of course they even let us be Sky Class freeloaders a couple times despite our pre-vintage status.

@GatorCruiser this post is for you. Had an 8:30 tee time this morning at Copperhead. They are preparing for the PGA Valspar event here in about 3 weeks. The course was in great shape and they are building all the media towers and stands. It’s pretty cool to get to golf with it like that. Only downside was it was cart path only since they are wanting to get the course in great shape so lots of extra walking to my ball. Especially since I don’t exactly hit it straight. And with them letting the rough grow out for the pros, let’s just say I didn’t have them inviting me back to play with the pros. Here’s some photos for you @GatorCruiser

Yeah sitting in traffic around Orlando now. Mouse lovers need to learn the gas is on the right.

Don't get me started... you may think it's tourists, and they don't help, but the locals are no better. At least it seems like you left plenty early. Embarkation at PC is a breeze and usually starts early and moves quickly.

Last month when I boarded Allure, I was onboard and done with muster by 10:18

And that wasn't a fluke. I know you were just on all 3 ships at PC but as far back as last June, Terminal 1 ships have begun boarding well before the "earliest" time slot of 10:30.
