Unused Onboard Credit

I have $150 onboard credit for an upcoming cruise.  I'm sure I will use it all, but if I don't, what happens to the unused onboard credit?

It depends on what type of OBC you have - refundable or non-refundable.  Most sources of OBC are refundable which means if you have any left over, they just refund it to your card on file.  If you have any non-refundable OBC, Royal will use it first to reduce the chance that you lose it.  If you do have any left over, you can use the casino method described above.  You can check with guest services on board to see what type you have.  (Or if you describe the source of your OBC, someone here may be able to tell you if it is refundable.)

Thanks.  It's from the RCCL Bank of America card.  Booked and paid for my cruises using this card then paid off the card.  I have $50 credit on Wonder and $150 credit for another cruise.

That is incorrect.  Here is the line item for our CC rewards OBC from Oct. 2022

10/2 CREDITS REFUNDABLE OBC - ROYAL CC REWARD -225.00

Did the same with credit left from RCL Visa card

At retirement + age, I have only been in a land based casino twice in my life.  On a cruise ship, only to cash out OBC.  Just an activity I have never had any interest in. IMO, handing money over for absolutely nothing in return 🤷‍♀️

Meh, different stroke for different folks, I think about that when people spend $3K on cabanas or $80k for a room to sail on a new ship.

As far as the casino goes......I see value in it as it is my entertainment, most times I earn a cruise that more than covers what I spent.

I'm also not a gambler, but certainly understand that it is entertainment for some.  I took my family of 4 to the movies the other week, $70 for tickets and then another $60 for drinks, popcorn candy etc.  it was over in 2 hours and I retained nothing but the experience of seeing the movie that will stream in 90 days.  It was something to do that made us smile.  So it is for the casino except at the movies I don't even have the slimmest chance of leaving with more than I came with.

All entertainment generally has a cost of admission.  I think the vast majority of casino goers understand that and choose the entertainment that makes them happy.

This sums it up. Really shouldn’t bother adding but I enjoy this topic as someone who lives frugally while not judging others at the same time.

Spend your entertainment money how you see fit. The examples like going to the movies are endless.

I have had the same issue in 2 of my last 3 cruises.  This is what I have done:

  1. go to the casino and get on a slot machine.
  2. put your sea card in the slot machine and connect to your stateroom account.
  3. Request the money from your stateroom account.
  4. Cash out the slot machine and get your ticket.
  5. Take the ticket to the cashier and get your cash.

Note:  Do not try to double your money.  The Casino is there to take your money does not give you money.
