I will NEVER take the daily gratuity charge off. The employees (both in front of and behind the scenes) deserve every penny of that and more!

When you bid, did you bid 50% of the difference in price between classes? More or less? What were the minimum bids as a % of actual upgrade costs?

And how desirable the cruise is (ship, holiday, level you are bidding on). I would assume it’s easier to win the higher levels like loft suites exc since presumably less people want to spend that money (also the reason I’m only saving hundreds not thousands). It’s most likely more competitive on the inside room to balcony upgrades. 

My husband bids all the time, but we have only won once.  It was on a 9-night Anthem New England / Canada cruise in October.  We went from a balcony to a junior suite.  He bid the max of $1,000.  The price difference to pay for the upgrade was consistently $3,000, which was the reason I booked the balcony.  We feel like we got a great deal.  We were assigned to JS 6632 which was awesome.  That balcony was really meant for a warm weather cruise!

I couldn't agree more. I've worked with two MEI agents, over the last 2 1/2 yrs. They've had to L&S a cruise twice, without a hitch. On top of that, I'm one of those OCD planners that checks everything all the time and MEI has consistently beat me to the punch with price drops, saving me $1200 in total.   One of the major benefits of using a TA is that it doesn't cost you anything, or at least it shouldn't. If your TA is charging you a fee, find another one. But, truth be told, I would pay a fee to MEI, if necessary. That's how impressed I have been with their service. Don't tell them that. ?

This was my thought as well.  

Just re-booked for Oct 2022 Greek Isle cruise after ours was cancelled for the second year in a row. That's the downside. The upside is that we decided to take the FCC which will allow us to move from a JS to a GS for only about $800 more total. Not a bad deal. We did hate to lose our corner aft JS balcony. It was huge. I guess they're are bigger problems than that.

I don’t know. Seems pretty smart business wise to me when you looked and see who have booked July/August sailings and can see the number of children and adults scheduled and when you do the math, there is no way they can get 95% of passengers to get vaccinated by the sail dates. You think Royal is going through the expense of test sailings if they haven’t already looked at the math and the feasibility of reaching the vaccine threshold of the CDC? 
 
they are bleeding cash. They do not want to limit their customer base unless they absolutely are required to do so. Seems like smart business to me.

There is of course a risk involved. But there is a risk of something happening to you every time you leave your house to do anything. I guess we could just stay in the house? But then what about the risks of household accidents? Life is full of risks.
