  1. While I guess it CAN be done, we have never asked for it to be done.  I am too picky about my stuff and I would not be comfortable with anyone else unpacking for me....that's just me.

If you are in a loft suite you need to make SURE that the Genie knows you want your bags taken upstairs.  If you don't say anything to them your bags will be left downstairs.  No bueno.

  2. I believe that is no longer the case. We have a UDP for our upcoming Brilliance cruise over Thanksgiving. There was no trouble at all purchasing it. We also had the UDP last Christmas on the Christmas + NY cruise on Grandeur. Our only restriction was on Christmas Eve where we could not choose Chops but both Giovanni’s and Izumi were available to us on Christmas Eve.

I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks if there are any restrictions on Brilliance for Thanksgiving

  3. Welcome to the Blog, guppyfresh !!

Yes, your soda cups will be in your room when you get there.  If they are not, ask your attendant and he/she will get them for you.

If your son/daughter loses their cup, I'm sure they will replace it.  Not sure what kind of hoops that requires but it's a problem that can be solved.

Now, if only the luggage tags would update..still showing gold for both of us..:34_rolling_eyes:

You luggage tags will not automatically update.  They are "static" once your cruise docs are published.  If you want new luggage tags (and I don't blame you, if you do !), call Royal (or your TA) and ask them to re-issue your cruise docs.  Then your luggage tags will update.

  5. I have never cruised on Mariner but I feel certain that it does, as every Royal ship has at least 1 poker table.

The rake is killer - 10% of the called pot up to $15 per hand. They normally play either a $1/$3 or $2/$5 cash game and those are generally only at night.  The tournaments are usually held on sea days with a few preliminary rounds and a final table on the last sea day.  Depending upon how many tournament entries they have, the final prize will either be a complimentary cruise and seat in the Royal Poker Tour finals (normally held the first or second week of December every year) or if there are not enough entries to pay for the "free" cruise, the prizes will be cash after a very heft rake for the house.

So yes, chances are there will be a poker table with cash games and tournaments but it's not a particularly player-friendly arrangement, IMO.  We rarely ever play poker onboard anymore.

  6. We did this on a recent B2B but it was on NAV out of Miami.  I can't imagine that FLL would be much different.  It was super easy in Miami.

We rented a car from National with points.  There was a rental car bus at the port when we got there, which took us to pick up our car.  We just had to show them the reservation so that they knew we weren't just trying to get a free ride to the airport.  Then after we were done with the rental, we did the opposite.  We had to show the bus driver our receipt and then the bus took us back to the port/ship.  SOO easy.

I can't answer the question about how frequently the bus runs back and forth but my experience in Miami was that they run very frequently in the morning and early afternoon, but probably not all day.  To be safe I would probably suggest that you try and be back to the ship by around 1:00.  You can check with the bus driver when they pick you up to ask when the last bus comes back to port.

  7. I will be on the following week !  Can't wait to see the new amped Oasis.

If you truly do not want to eat in the MDR (or any of the other complimentary meal options) then I do recommend that you look into the UDP.  As you noted, in a JS you may or may not be able to eat  in CK.  You would not know until you get on board and you might not even know from day-to-day, depending on how booked they are.

I have found that the UDP is worth the money on the O class ships b/c there are so many different options for dining.  It the price isn't outrageous, I would say it's a good option.  If you do decide to purchase the UDP, do NOT include your 8-year-old.  There is no need to pay full price for him.  They will either charge a reduced children's price for him or sometimes they don't even charge you at all.  I certainly wouldn't depend on getting his meals for free but it might happen that way.  Even if they do charge him it will not be full price.

Regarding the Key....the only perk that you would be duplicating with the Key would be lunch on embarkation day.  If you get the UDP that would already be covered by the rest of the perks would be of benefit if you are interested in them.

  8. Neesa, I completely concur with you; if you are already in Sky then there is really no reason to bid on another Sky class room.  Star Class...oh yeah....Remember that the 1 BR ATS are NOT Star Class so you can mark those off your list as well.  There's no way I would consider moving from an OS to a 1 BR ATS especially since it is Sky Class to Sky Class.

I have found that very often the OS is more expensive than the CLS.  I know people like to be up on Deck 17 but many people also do not like the stairs associated with the lofts (I'm in that crowd).  Are you in one of the OS that has a connecting room or one of the non-connected OS ?  The reason I ask is b/c I am also in an OS next year (Allure) and from what I can see from photos, the stand-alone OS on the O class ships have a big pole right near the front door.  The connecting OS don't have that pole but all of the non-connecting do.  I shouldn't let that bother me but it does.  Even though I do not want the hassle of stairs, I am considering switching from the OS to a CLS just so I don't have to dick around with that pole.

Not surprising to me, Waaay...we've done the Tgiving cruise for the last 4 or 5 years and it is always full. Signs in the port and on board "No upgrades available." We always book at least 18 mos. out to make sure we can get what we want!

But what's so different about this cruise is it is NOT sold out. Not one single category is sold out.  I think the reason is b/c this is a Mon-Fri cruise, which is less popular than a cruise that encompasses as weekend or at least part of a weekend.  Besides, I don't think cabin availability has a darned thing to do with Royal Up.  There really isn't much that I would be able to bid  on anyway as I'm already in a GS.  Only the OS and RS above what I already have...it's just odd that I did not get an invitation to bid.  Not at all concerned about it...just surprised.

Booked passes for April 2021 this AM. Cabanas are just a beach...er...bridge too far.

This is precisely what I did.  I want to be able to go to the Club, swim in the pool and eat some lobster but I have learned from experience that the cabanas are a waste of money for us.  We just take naps there.  So I feel like entrance into the club at $64.99 PP was a pretty good deal.  The "floating" cabanas (I guess they have renamed them from "Over-the-water" to "floating") for us are $1499 (Anthem, Feb. 2020). For the 2 of us to take a nap that is just waaaytooo much.  I am, however, interested to see what the Club is like.
