  2. Hello from the Adventure of the Seas! We are currently docked in St. Maarten, but checking in for a review on our day yesterday. We took a quick taxi from Old San Juan to Pan American Pier around 10:45. When we arrived at the port, we were able to go through a quick security check and board immediately after. One of the fastest I’ve experienced. The 12:30 pm check in time stated by RCCL doesn’t appear to be enforced. I did also notice that Platinum C&A and up were being allowed through the Suite/Pinnacle line. Upon embarkation, we made our way to the Schooner for a drink and to relax. Looking around the Promenade, the effect of the refurb was obvious. All of the furnishings and carpet looks brand new - the ship is very clean. We made our way to the Windjammer for lunch, and as expected the food was great. We noticed that on entry to the Windjammer there was a set of hand wash and dry stations placed outside, and thankfully they were being utilized! Nice touch!! The dryer appeared to come out the side of the faucet, which helps keep things compact and moving. After lunch, we hung around the ship until staterooms were ready right around 1:30 pm. We love our Promenade Interior room! As with the rest of the ship, everything in the rooms looks quite new. So far, I’m very impressed. This cruise we plan to eat in the main dining room each evening. We’ve had a hiccup getting a pair in our group seated with us, but hoping to finally get that resolved today. Dinner was great - others in my group raves about the prime rib and I really enjoyed a vegetable and polenta dish. After dinner we made our way to the casino, where I am happy to share I had some great luck on roulette! Thats all for now - about time to head in to st maarten for our tour!

  3. IT'S CRUISE DAY!!! I flew into Houston Hobby airport last night and stayed at an airport hotel. My hotel had renovations underway which has been a theme for me recently. It wasn't until breakfast when I saw the new lower 3 feet of drywall everywhere on the 1st floor that it dawned on me it was from Hurricane Harvey flood damage. I'm in my Lyft ride heading towards Galveston as I write this. Just over an hour for $50. ETA 10:10am. Light traffic on this Sunday morning and we made the terminal at 10:03am. Quick drop of luggage and into the terminal to check in. It looks like they just opened and there aren't many people here. A group of 15 headed into the Suites/Pinnacle/Diamond Plus queue leaving the Diamond/Emerald/Platinum queue just to me. I went to next available agent and... the computers went down. Around 10:30 they came back online one by one. Unfortunately for me and my neighbor our agent's computers didn't come back so they slid us over to working agents and away we went. I wasn't too concerned because I knew we had to wait for boarding anyways. Upstairs into the top tier waiting area it seems they had started boarding when I arrived upstairs but suffering from the same computer outage they had halted boarding. The upstairs area has a vendor area where they sell lanyards. I got some water from the dispensers and just sat down they started boarding again. By 10:50am I was onboard. Pretty easy boarding process despite the brief computer issue. This trip is already starting off a lot smoother than my last Galveston departure on some other cruise line a few years ago (before I switched to Royal). This seven night cruise will complete the Freedom class trilogy for me. Freedom . Independence . Liberty . Leaving from Galveston I have two sea days, Roatán, Costa Maya, Cozumel, a sea day then back to Galveston. Liberty has two primary itineraries. This cruise is the more western of these western routes. A nautical style map was on display in the Promenade. The promenade is adorned with a large Texas flag to greet us: Café Promenade was open so I had a roast beef plus a turkey sandwich. Let the food coma commence. With some time to kill before cabins are available I decided to check out a few spots. Main Dining Room Helipad (of course) It's an overcast day here in Galveston so I'll wait to take more pictures around the ship once we are in nicer weather. I was pleased to discover O3b based Voom. With that I can confirm everything Freedom class and newer has O3b Voom. With that it's almost time for cabins to be available.

  4. Hello friends! I'm here to provide you with a review of my beach day at the British Colonial Hilton in Nassau! This came highly recommended from Matt on several of his Periscope broadcasts so I figured our RC Periscopers Super Bowl group cruise aboard Enchantment would be the perfect opportunity to try it out! This beach day is available from Resortforaday and is 79 dollars with a 17 dollar deposit paid up front and the rest payable when you check in at the hotel(no cash accepted, credit or debit card only). It's a late start tonight so I'll add more tomorrow. We actually arrived in Nassau a day early at 5 pm due to Coco Cay being cancelled, a too frequent occurence lately unfortunately. I was able to see the hotel from the ship as we were docking and was impressed right off the bat at how pristine the beach looked. This was definitely a good indication of how this beach day would go the next day In this photo you can see the hotel and the beach just to the left of the cranes.

  5. The rep could have been wrong. They often are. But that's what they told me. Perhaps @HLWIser can add to this?

  6. I can confirm that they are "cut loose" after they turn 18. A month ago, when I called to register my own kids for C&A (to get our status since it's their first RC cruise), the agent explained to me that they will carry our status until they are 18, at which point they will be "cut loose" and whatever points they have at that point, that will be their status.

  7. I'm reading conflicting reports on whether the Starbucks in the Promenade is included in the refreshment package and coffee card. Can you please confirm? Is there another type of specialty coffee available, if not?

    Baby I.D.

Certified Birth Certificate, with the babies full name, which should match the name you entered on the cruise documentation. By certified I mean the actual copy the state where the baby was born provided to you, most states have a raised imposed seal on the certificate so they can tell the difference between the real one and a copy. Because of the importance of this, I would call RCCL and confirm this with them.

  10. I agree with your statements about not getting a balcony if it means you will have to skimp on port activities. My favorite Alaska views are top deck 360 degree views anyway. You can always get a good spot to view the prime spots if you are willing to try to outsmart the crowds a little. ( Either go early, or go after they get cold and hungry! We went back out to view the glacier a few years ago after everyone else got cold and went to breakfast. We got amazing views of calfing and had almost the entire deck to ourselves to view it!!! I also love lounging in the solarium on alaksa cruises to watch the views go by!

  12. To be honest with you, I remember some CDs who were pretty good and some not so good. But then again, I have no idea who they were! As long as my drink package is good to go, they all are OK with me.

  13. So, why are folks so interested in who the cruise director is or isn't? Yeah, nice to know, but, that isn't going to influence me one way or the other when booking a cruise. I look at the itinerary and ship amenities. Or am I being obtuse?

  16. Hoping Adventure Voom was upgraded to O3b but haven't heard yet. Looking for latency results in a speedtest if you have a minute to test it onboard. Also curious if the recent announcement of more bandwidth is being realized on ships yet. Easiest way to know is a speedtest and look at ping time. If 200-300ms its O3b, if 500-600+ms its the old satellites. This is from Freedom:
