New Comp offer for Solo only

I read in a couple of the facebook group page.  The new comp offer '2023 JUNE - SEPTEMBER VARIETY SAILINGS OFFER' came out last nite, it's for Solo only.  If you want to add second guest, you will have to pay for the second guest.  Is not comp for 2, is comp for one only.  Is this what Royal trying to do now?  Comp one and second have to pay???   Hmm..  Anyone heard of this?

I saw this offer and wondered the same. It makes sense from the casino standpoint. Usually the second person has no rank in the casino and often doesn't play. So by only offering comp offers for 1, they hedge bets.

So for this offer, what if solo cruiser want to do Royal up.  Are they still getting charge for 2?  hmmm....

Seems logical.  Separates the hard core gamblers from those who are being lured away from the casino by their pesky family who are just there to cruise and vacation.  There is a cost when family lures a gambler from their seat in the casino and now it's measured by a cruise fare.

The view from 40,000' suggests they are filling ships without giving away free cruises to gamblers so they don't need them as much.   This is the first step.  Next step maybe fewer or no comps in general.  As long as they fill ships without cutting fares then comps aren't needed either.

New to cruise spend more money.  More money on onboard purchases and on the cruise fare.  Top elites in the loyalty program with lots of perks that cost money and gamblers need not apply.

Looks like it is not a free ride.  The one I received stated that if you travel solo, you must still pay the second fare.  Definatly different from previous comps where I got the entire fare for 2 people paid for (minus taxes and port fees).

"Casino Royale Offer (the “Casino Offer”) is valid solely for the qualified player named in the email communication (the “Recipient”) who is a resident of the United States or Canada and at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older. The Casino Offer provides the Recipient one (1) complimentary cruise fare only, based on double occupancy, for the Recipient and a casino discount rate for one (1) guest in the stateroom, offered in select stateroom categories available upon the Recipient’s redemption of the Casino Offer. Recipients who sail as a single passenger without a guest in a double occupancy stateroom are responsible for the payment of the cruise fare for the second passenger, at the Casino discount rate. The Casino Offer applies to new individual bookings prior to May 3, 2023 (“Casino Offer Period”) on sailings departing on or before September 30, 2023 on ship(s), sail date(s) and itineraries ( “Qualifying Sailings”). Taxes, fees and port expenses, online booking processing fee, if applicable, and applicable fuel surcharges are additional, must be paid in full to receive a stateroom confirmation and apply to each guest."

What the he!! Is a “online booking processing fee” ?

I don't know, but that language for “online booking processing fee” has been in the offers I have had for the past year that I just looked through out of curiosity.  None of my invoices from comped cruises show it as a line item.  They all pretty much look like this:

I sailed in February over Presidents weekend and the ship-Anthem- was at capacity.  Presidents week is not offered as a casino comp for the annual tier and not likely on any of the other casino offers.  The casino was practically empty, I was easily able to get any machine and a seat at any gambling table.  I’d love to know if the powers that be were happy with a full ship vs. a practically empty casino.  I did a B2B and the following week the casino was hopping, it was very difficult to find a seat at the table and getting on  a slot machine was also difficult.  The ship was near capacity -it was Canadas’ winter break.  Again, I’d love a comparison of $ earned.

Will be interesting to see if they apply the "new cruise math" to the certificates that folks earn while gambling on-board. The offered cruises out of Galveston are only at higher point levels which is a bummer for those of us who consistently cruise from that port. Typically the wife gets an upper point level and I get a lower level so we use hers for scheduling future cruises. Will have to see if you can combine the offers in order to get both of us in a balcony at a lower cost.

I cruise in less than a week and plan to earn my 2024 prime status on that cruise, so I will let you know if the onboard comps are solo only as well.

@CrznTxn I was told as long as the offers are the same, they can be combined to get a better room. A rep said I could combine two interiors for a balcony, two balconies for a JS, etc.

I would really love to learn how to get to prime status playing the least amount of money as possible?  If you end up spending $thousands then for me it's not worth it, but if there is a trick, i'd love to know. Is it from table games?

We had a big thread on this not to long ago.

I play slots, I like the bonus games and other stuff, it's my entertainment.

I haven't spent thousands, but I set my cap at the price of a decent 7N cruise when it comes to making prime. @DoomSlayer posted a link to how to make prime and I list what 2023's prime cost me.

If the offer codes begin the same you can combine them for an upgrade.

I don't blame people for being upset, I was silently crying too.  You can see the difference with my latest offer compared to previous as it says "1 COMP GUEST IN A DOUBLE".  It will be interesting to see what next month's offer is.  My next 3 cruises I have booked are all casino comps for 2, I wonder if that has any effect on the offers I see now?  Also, I wonder what offers I will see after my May trip as I plan on spending time in the Casino.

I got the same 3 offer as your, except the 1 Comp one I got 23AR204 which is a trade in value of $850.  The original offer was Balcony or Oceanview stateroom on select sailing with $0 trade in value, then yesterday they rename it to 1Comp guest in a double balcony or Ocean view trade in value $850.  Guess there were too many people complain.  I was crying inside and sad too, cuz there were couple date that work perfect for me.  But I travel solo, so it's not worth it to pay for additional price.  So I move on, to me, if an offer I don't like I am waiting and hoping for a next better offer.  The only cruise, I know I earned it's my annual prime cruise and the instant offer when I am on the cruise gambling.  The rest of it is just bonus.  That's how I see it.

I must be the only one who has not received any kind of VAR 1 Comp offer.  Don't know if that's good or bad.

I am a low-stakes, tables-only player so my comps have never been great....but I will say, I am DONE with the 3-4-5 night old ships comps.  I am using them to get to Pinnacle (which we will achieve by the end of the year) but beyond that - no more !

So I'm not entirely sure that I would outwardly reject a "1 Comp, second-person-goes-at-the-casino-rate" IF :

1).  The casino rate is really a casino discount rate for person #2 and not a full price rate

2). The offers were for at least 7 night sailings that included the newer/Oasis-class ships

I might actually be willing to pay for the second passenger if they offered me a ship and sailing that I actually wanted !!

Since I haven't received any such offers then I have no idea whether either of my criteria would be met.

I will say this - making the solo cruiser pay a 50% supplement for a FREE CRUISE is an insult and completely unacceptable.  If you're giving someone a comp cruise, give them a comp cruise !

1) Not sure on the rate for the second person, full fare vs casino rate, as this is a new thing and I have not tried to book with it.

2)  The offer itineraries include plenty of 7 night sailings on Oasis and Voyager classes.

My biggest problem with this change is that I usually upgrade my room anyway -- beyond what the offer is.  If I have to pay for the second passenger now (my dear wife), then no more upgrades to Suites because I had to use that money for her fare.

I am interested to see if they do something similar for instant certificates received in the casino itself.  These are usually better than the monthly offers I get and what I primarily use anyway.

I didn't assume this offer was to replace the regular ones but more so confused by the whole setup. It is not a comp, they should have marketed as something else.

@Ampurp85 my feelings about this exactly.  Just call it a $600 voucher credit (in my case) and don't try to sugar coat it and confuse me by saying it is a comp.

I just booked Adventure OTS departing August under this casino “comp” offer.  They offered a casino rate for my wife which is approximately a 35% discount.  As @WAAAYTOOO mentioned, what attracted us to book the cruise are 1. It’s 7 nights and 2. It’s going to a couple of islands which we have not yet visited (St Croix and Tortola).

  • 1 month later...

I got my comp offer yesterday from royal. I heard someone say it’s for solo only. That’s not true. My offer clearly states COMPLIMENTARY 7 day Ocean View cabin for TWO … but I really want to know if I have to book a second person or if I can just go solo?

You can go solo. This thread was about a particular offer. Not all casino comp offers are the same. I have gotten comps that say for two but sail solo.
