I am this neighbor but I have horrendously annoying family members that enjoy randomly showing up and knocking on our door at the worst times. It’s really nice to be able to control the situation on deck 17 and I apologize in advance to those whom I inconvenience.

We are staying here for 7 nights in December before we cruise over Christmas. It looks lovely, the suite we selected is newly renovated and the ocean front views, full kitchen and spa sealed the deal.  Reviews are consistently very good but it’s nice to have a local include it! We are looking forward to our stay!

There’s many options. If free breakfast is something you prefer then there shouldn’t be an issue locating a hotel. As a downtown Fort Lauderdale local, my question to you would be what price point and what time of year are you sailing? We are currently in tourist season so the rates for even the most basic hotel accommodations are inflated. I will give you 3 places/ locations to consider w/o knowing your overall goal whether it be just a bed or full beach resort experience:
1. Fort Lauderdale Beach (full resort experience): Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Season: $750+/night. Normal $400+/night.
2. Mid tier hotel close to port: Embassy Suites 17th street. Walk to dining exc. 5 minutes to port. Season: $300+/ night. Normal: $150ish/night.
 
3. Mid tier hotel 10-15 minutes to port: multiple mid tier branded hotel options within the Dania Point area at the NE corner of I-95 and Sterling blvd. Easy walk to dining and lower price point. Season $200ish. Normal: $150/night.
 
I wouldn’t hesitate one second to stay in the Dania Point area pre cruise if you are conscious of price. The distance is of zero consequence as it’s still very close to the port. There are plenty of dining options that you can walk to from any of the Dania Point area hotels. Let me know if you need specifics and I will most likely be able to answer your questions with first hand knowledge. 

D+ is 2 separate 24 hour “passes”
If you click on the first one at 6pm to activate it it will be good until 6pm the next night.  You can then activate your other 24 hour pass at a time of your choosing.
mind you, there is an “upgrade” that does show, so for a few dollars more you could have the “stream feature”-if you didn’t want it be sure to switch to the regular free 24 hour pass. 
if you prepurchase internet in your name you’ll have to go to the VOOM desk to activate your 24 hour pass for  another device.  When that 24 hour pass is over and you want to use the next 24 hour pass you have to go back to the Voom desk for them to activate it.  This was based on my June experience on Oasis. I had an internet package and hubby did not.  He used up his 2 24 hour periods and then VOOM person “gave him” mine each time.  It is a pain because the VOOM desk is only open a few hours in the morning and then again in the evening, so I had him set a reminder on his phone so we wouldn’t miss the person.
just reread the question….I do believe you have the option to apply your 2 days towards the weeklong package onboard in the app instead of using the 24 hour pass.  If it is not an option in the app you’d have to wait on the VOOM desk line.  It has been my experience that VOOM is cheaper to purchase pre cruise than using the discount onboard. 
 
also, note, if you are Prime in the casino you get 30% off the internet.  So if you use your 24 hour passes first you can purchase the remainder of the days, whenever you choose to, for a 30% discount, this was done at the VOOM desk by showing the prime designation on the seapass card snd asking for the discount.

1. Don't drive in LA - if you're not used to California driving, you'll be shocked and overwhelmed. It's just not worth it to do so for a day either. I agree with tonyfsu21 - just Uber/Lyft it. I think I priced LAX to the cruise port at around $70 one way in October for our trip.
3. Suncoast Park Hotel is part of Hilton's Tapestry collection. While it doesn't have breakfast included (something I enjoy), it does have rooms you can get that have a Disney fireworks view.
