Emotional support elephants are not permitted to cruise.

crisgold52 reacted to princevaliantus in When will there be an announcement on December 2020 cruises?
Don't expect for at least the next 60 days for any passenger cruises. Lots of testing and tweaking will be happening until RCG feels confident to have passengers come onboard.

Actually, this is what I have in mind. A few bad apples and the whole thing is ruined. Like Matt said, most likely, there will be some videos put forth by RCL.

crisgold52 reacted to twangster in Quarantine for 14 days?
The public school teacher I live with has had her normal breaks all up ended.  There is no fall break in 2020 as it's already been eliminated.  Instead they are using the week of Thanksgiving as their break.  Spring break is thought to be on the books but the actual week may change at any time depending how this plays out.  We have a cruise booked over the summer break but there is no confidence the summer break will remain a break as they scramble to figure out how to educate as a result of the pandemic.  Remote learning does not work well but it's the only option right now.  Students are not learning and the effect on our society will cause many school boards to look at the calendar with fresh eyes once classes move back into the classroom.  Work loads are increasing for teachers but pay is not AND they have to supply their own masks and PPE when classrooms do reopen.
Some of my booked cruises with family may turn into solo cruises due to unexpected scheduling changes.  Strange times indeed.

No cruise line knows how quickly the CDC will do their part to grant approvals at milestones.  Cruise lines won't want to cancel future cruises prematurely and have to issue refunds and more FCC however it is certain that some additional cancellations are coming.
Government is rarely known for being efficient and timely.  We all hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
Cruise lines don't have all the answers.  They are hoping like we are but they don't know when the first passenger cruise will sail anymore than we do.
The restart will start slow and small but it is on the horizon for the coming months.

I would think at least 30 days to get the test cruises in, gather and analyze the data and get the testing capabilities in place, then file the paperwork and wait for 60 days.  Using this time table the earliest payed passenger cruises could start would be February.

We also live in Canada so would have to quarantine as well. My employeer says it has to be " vacation time" and not just a leave of absence.  So we would have to take 3 weeks vacation for the cruise. AND it can be denied by our employer if they don't have the staff, which in healthcare is always.

I'm wondering if I decide to go on a cruise, how will the quarantine process look like? I'm from Canada, so if I go the the US for a cruise, I will need to quarantine for 14 days. I am planning on taking my kids during the "march break" in March. However, this break is only a week long, not enough to quarantine.

Unless you live in the right place most people won't be cruising anyways. Fix the actual issue and eradicate the virus. Only then will cruising resume to normal.

I do not think there is any way in the world they will be ready December 1 for paying customers. They have a framework to operate under, however they must PROVE the framework works before they can have any revenue cruises.

do folks feel it is realistic that cruises out of the US will return in 2021? Does the science support that? Even IF a vaccine comes in early 2021 CDC is saying that it wont be very ready for wide distribution until mid to late 2021. I do not see the cruise industry opening in a meaningful way until that happens. Thoughts?

I spend time each morning watching live travel streams on YouTube, as I've been working from home so long I'm so sick of daytime tv.  Venice has more live stream cameras than any city I've found - I like to people watch and dream about the day I can travel again.  Anyway...my point.  It's amazing how many Italians are NOT wearing masks.  In fact, the majority do not.  I watch them go in and out of businesses - no masks.  When I put on the Tokyo cameras - everyone is in masks.  Explains a lot.

It actually works both ways! If you're sick, it keeps your deadly moisture particles from slapping more people in the face, and if you're not sick, a mask helps you not to breathe in as many deadly moisture particles if they happen to be around.

Sooooo....you are saying that if you are sick with COVID, you should be wearing a mask??? EXACTLY!! This prevents YOU from spreading the virus!! I reiterate, WEAR A MASK PEOPLE!!!!!! You may be Asymptomatic which means you may not be showing any symptoms AND you might not even know it!! Protect your fellow cruisers any which way you can!!

Per CDC most people that have contracted the virus have been wearing masks. Europe is under a second wave as well and have been under a very restrictive mask mandate. The push should be for the vaccine, hopefully available by end of this year.

I really want to book another cruise and get the double points which would get us to Diamond status!!....Just need to have some confidence that cruising is going to start back up and that the 14 day quarantine rule will be reduced or removed in the near future!

Its a great offer with the points.....wonder what would happen if 2021 is a wash for cruising and these cruises get pushed into 2022...would double points follow and apply with a Lift & Shift type thing.....hmmm

Maybe. Upon further reflection it was probably easier to get the North Americans to one location, quarantine them, then fly everyone at once to Singapore on the same flights. In this manner you minimize the chance of outside contact. (Before they quarantine again)

Yup did it’s usual $61 to $46 for our sailing.  Still hate to give them $1500 on a March 2021 cruise I am not convinced will sail.

thank you so much for another perspective.
my take is the rapid spread in the USA is do to those that refuse to mask, and there are many, just stop by and look at any local bar.
I also believe that with like minded cruiser that are courteous and obey the rules i am just as safe as going to the store which we all have to do from time to time

While i agree, the nfl and other otganisations are taking precautions and still getting cases. The problem is the amount of virus in the general community has not been reduced in the USA. Such a risk vs reward situation for the cruise lines.

I would say don't worry about it, none  of it will probably end up happening..I am sure your re-elected PM will keep it locked down as long as possible...so the cancellation of part of the B2B is really a moot point.

crisgold52 reacted to Chuck586 in Star class and tipping
I just ran across this post and had another question about tipping.  First, however, an observation.  All of the tipping rules for Royal are simply confusing and, I believe, intentionally vague in an effort to increase tips to the staff which, I imagine, has the unintended consequence of shorting tips to staff a lot of the time.  A better system would be to simply charge each person $XX per week based upon the average purchases at dinner, the bar, etc and just allocate it towards the service employees with a rule that there is no other tipping.  That would seem to me to be fair across the board.
In any case, here is my question.  Star Class passengers have already paid for their gratuities in their room.  There is not a specific line item on the bill but it is included in the dear cost of the room.  Here are a couple examples which illustrate my conundrum.
I order a $10.00 drink from a waiter at the bar or from a pool attendant etc.  The 18% tip on that drink would be $1.80.  Now I generally consider 18% for a bartender that opens a bottle of beer or fills a cup from the frozen cocktail machine to be a pretty good tip.  Let's assume he did a really good job was chatty and maybe complimented me on my Hawaiian shirt do I boost his tip to 20% and really write $.20 on the extra tip line or do I go all out and give him an extra $1.00 and not he is getting a 28% tip.  I personally feel like a schmuck if I give either nothing or the $.20 tip and I feel like I have been had if I end up tipping everyone at 28%.
Similar situation for dinner.  Let's assume the cost for the dinner I order is $100 for two people.  Assume we follow @WAAAYTOOO guidelines and tip $20 for dinner.  According to the published info, Star passengers have already paid the 18% gratuity towards the dinner, and now another 20% tip at the time of service.  Again, I would say that the service better be pretty spectacular for a 38% tip.
I, for one, find the tipping stuff more than a bit confusing.  I really wish that Royal would simply charge us for gratuities and announce a "no tipping" policy.  Just my humble opinion.
