Not when its 1 family who have travelled together to get to barbados from US, probably shared hotel room beforehand and cabins on ship along with everything else they have done together in between ( as in NOT wearing masks while sharing rooms etc )

6 positves out of a very small ship of 100ish total people. That's pretty bad. Anyone thinking about getting on a boat with 2500 passengers (50% capacity of a big boat) and 1300 or so crew is pretty much taking a huge risk. Even with testing.
What we need now is complete capitulation until a) this Northern hemisphere winter wave recedes AND b) a vaccine is in place and distributed to enough people to start knocking down the infection rate, not just protecting those that have the vaccine. Both of those things look like it would take until at least 3rd quarter of next year, possibly longer.
If cruising at scale is started up too early, it will be forced to be stopped again, this time until everything is completely worked out. So patience and capitulation is the key.

They should just give refunds. I am canceling my March 2021 cruise. I am forced to take a fcc that I will probably never use by expiry date. That is theft.

crisgold52 reacted to ehw51 in With the new Vaccine information when it will be possible to cruise normally
Things might be more normal later in the year, but I don´t think you will see mask less cruises in 2021. The cruise lines will be under a microscope like no other industry. I would think they will be following their Healthy Sail Panels recommendations for quite a while.

Tell that to the 20,000+ who want to go on a test cruise. As much as I don't want to say it, this is purely political. Wouldn't surprise me if these 2 were never even near a cruise ship.

As much as I hate to say it cruises should not sail until the numbers are way down.
The CDC is right to stop ships from sailing with the numbers skyrocketing out of control.
A cruise ship ban through the end of May wouldn't be unreasonable and avoids the cruises line forcing people to make final payments only to cancel cruises a few weeks later while keeping their money for another 3 months.
This is an ugly situation we have put ourselves into but it's time to face the reality of the situation.

On Friday, a letter signed by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA) called on the CDC to reinstate its no-sail order for cruise ships and reverse efforts to restart the industry's US operations. The letter cites the outbreak aboard SeaDream 1.

We were able to check in for our Jan 10th cruise as soon as it opened in October. Since then, I finally got my renewed passport and wanted to update the check in with that info. Check in doesn't work any more, makes me highly suspicious that they are going to cancel the cruise.

I've cancelled all of my refundable cruises and requested refunds.  I have too many FCC now and with Royal cancelling another Star Class cruise on me that had FCC in play the early indication is they won't re-issue the FCC.  They already did this to me once but my TA was able to escalate it as a "one time" exception.
My advice is ask for refunds.  FCC is fools gold.  They can and will cancel your FCC if your cruise cancels.  Poof, it's gone, just like that.
Avoid FCC at all cost.  Don't be tempted by the 125% FCC carrot they may dangle in front of you.  Carrots are great for donkeys, don't let them make you into an *ss.

    Here's my take on this...

Transmission is an ever-present possibility wherever one may be - plane, theme park, cruise ship.  The only difference is that on a cruise ship out at sea, COVID patients who need more treatment and equipment than the ship's medical facilities can provide will have to be "medivacked" to land.  That would present a logistical challenge.  For the people in my circle who died from this disease, their conditions deteriorated very quickly.  I hope it doesn't happen to any passenger when cruising resumes.

Yes but it's unknown if exposure provides immunity of if immunity is short lived.  There are reports of individuals having been infected twice months apart.

No new locally transmitted cases in Singapore, so you would think the chance of success is pretty high.

crisgold52 reacted to twangster in Update for Australian Cruises
Naturally it is wise to consider what other countries are doing.  The extreme CDC requirements for America are a direct reflection of the American response to the virus in general.  Those same American protocols should not be required in regions that have responded very differently to the virus.
Industry and government public health agencies need to work closely together and adapt as the virus ebbs and flows.  The American shutdown of the cruise industry is directly attributable to the actions of the American people.  We did this to ourselves.  Australians responded very differently to the pandemic and they shouldn't be bound to American style protocols.
On one end of the spectrum is the American model to restart cruising.  The other end of the spectrum is restarting cruising like there was never a pandemic.  Somewhere in between the two extremes is the right approach for Australia.

crisgold52 reacted to twangster in CDC Conditional Sailing Order
Yes there will be a cruise industry after the pandemic in my opinion.  I don't see the entire industry disappearing.  The pandemic has caused massive disruptions to many lives, economies and industries around the world.  Like there have been airlines that have disappeared we have seen some cruise lines disappear.  The impact to the cruise industry may not be over yet.  Only time will tell but the sting isn't over, the virus didn't disappear on Nov. 4th as some projected it would.

Trying not to be negative.. I want to get back to the US as much as anyone, but with a 100,000 new daily cases, how is the CDC going to justify letting these ships sail? Correct me if I am wrong, but it’s worse than when the original no sail order was put in place? And if they do allow real passengers, well this framework could have been put in place from the beginning.

crisgold52 reacted to DunkelBierJay in "100% Testing Required for Cruise Ship Passengers According to CLIA"
All of this emphasizes that the cruising public will run into a cluster in the opening months. I don't care about my own exposure to a disease with a flat death rate, but all of this complexity and friction isn't worth it until the perception of overkill kicks in. Cruising will suck for a long while.
  19. Thanks
crisgold52 reacted to twangster in CDC Conditional Sailing Order
I'm not so sure.   The CDC hasn't changed it's position on cruise ships.  The CDC does not them want sailing with passengers.
The CDC was directed not to extend the NSO.  Okay fine.  So they came up with the CSO where they have numerous checkpoints they need to approve on a ship by ship basis.  If anything they have strengthened their grasp on cruise ships and have taken it from yes or no on a global basis to finite control on a ship by ship basis with elusive verbiage and no clear path forward.
As this game starts to play out not only can the CDC "move the goalposts" but they can change the sport being played on the field mid-game.  Cruise lines show up with a football team ready to play only to discover at half time it's now a lacrosse game and they lose.
I think the CDC is buying time hoping for a new administration that will accept their findings without interference.
As a result I don't think cruise lines know what ship will be allowed to sail or when.

I’m thinking my Dec 19th Holiday Cruise on the Anthem will be cancelled because they need more time to start up...and because it’s an eight day cruise.  Also, my January 4th cruise will probably be cancelled because it’s an eleven day cruise.  Oh well, it is what it is and I’ll be patient with the process. At least there is now light at the end of the tunnel... I would much rather they take their time to do it right rather than do it quick and suffer another closure. I can’t wait!!......but I will.?

crisgold52 reacted to Sharla in When will there be an announcement on December 2020 cruises?
Royal Caribbean almost always announces at the end of the day. I would expect it between 4:30 or 5:00 today or tomorrow, but for sure December will be cancelled. They have to do so much before they can allow guests onboard.

Border is not closed till March..they extend it for 30 days at a time.

You maybe confusing with with the Canadian goverment trying to make Canadians feel good by banning all cruise ships till March, but what a joke..I don't know any cruises that are coming to Canada in Jan...lol

I would guess that you will still have to do the 14 day quarantine still then which will be the biggest deterrent for most Canadians to travel.
