My interpretation is that Delta changed flight times on the first leg of her trip that didn't allow for enough of a connection time to make the next flight.  But they didn't automatically switch her to a new flight for that second leg and she had to call them and get it done herself.  They weren't able to confirm her in First Class for the rescheduled second leg.

How did I miss all of that ??  Lol. Thanks !

That totally sucks. Very bad service. I don’t blame her for being upset. ??

Delta came back with basically waving the change fees, but an add-collect (fare difference) of $159 pp to change the tickets to return from SIN instead of HKG.  And of course, I'd submit that receipt to Royal for re-imbursement.  I would be fine with this.  Otherwise, if we elected to cancel it straight-up, I'd have the $1550 value of the plane ticket to use for a year.

I called Royal and confirmed that if we do cancel voluntarily, we would receive a voucher in the amount of the cruise fare in approximately 14 days from via the travel agency.  The voucher is valid for 1 year (the email concerning this sailing doesn't mention this timeline, but RC confirmed "1 year" over the phone).

Given all of this, my current plan is to wait a week or so, see if the waivers get extended or the pot sweetened, and then cancel the cruise & the plane tickets.  I just don't feel like the stars are lining up this time.  MY S/O has a colleague who's Chinese wife is in HKG right now, and they won't let her leave.  Yesterday a Costa Cruise was quarantined on arrival back at her home port.  If anything happens in 3 weeks with the current situation further deteriorating, and we get held up in Singapore or barred from boarding return flights because we've been to Singapore / Thailand / Vietnam ...

I think Royal has mitigated the situation ... I'll say "sufficiently."  This is more about me not wanting to insert myself into a questionable environment when I can use the funds elsewhere within a year.  Too many "hanging chads" right now on this sailing, in this part of the world.  Good luck to all those who are pressing on!

I fully respect your decision.  There are just too many wildly menacing variables going on here.  The truth is, I understand that this “thing” would be due to peak just about the time you are scheduled to be there.  Then there’s the fact that the US has declared a state of emergency and will be restricting ingress back into the US.  Who wants to get stuck OUTSIDE on this one ?! There are no painless choices here but there are smart ones and I think you’ve hit it.  Good luck with minimizing losses.

Follow Up question, we are sailing on Indy and also stopping in GC in April.  If we've purchased "The Key" do you know if you have to get a tender ticket? Or can you just show up and expect the next tender?

One of the perks of The Key is priority tendering, so if you must get a ticket, you will get one of the first numbers.  I’m sure someone will give you information and directions but if you somehow miss getting that information, go to guest services prior to reaching GC and they will let you know when and where to muster.

Do you know what is included on Beach club only pass?

No, not really.  I believe everything except cabanas and drinks are included but I really don’t know for sure.  If you have the UBP then drinks ARE included.  I know food is included.  The pool and loungers are included as far as I know.  I will have to ask the Suites Concierge  about towels.  Not sure if we have to bring towels from the ship or not.

  5. We will be there next week.  There are still both beach and OTW cabanas available and the price has remained very steady (no big jumps or slumps) since they became available for booking.  That makes me think that they are not in particularly high demand for our sailing.  The day pass to the Club, however, must be selling pretty well.  The prices on that have been all over the place with $50.99 PP the lowest (this is the price we paid) and today’s price, $93.99 PP.   As far as I know, Anthem will be the only ship there that day.

  6. So you were FC but now you're not ?  What happened ?  Did they have a change of equipment that eliminated your seats or FC altogether ?

This happened to us once (we were in Row 2 and on the new plane there was no longer a Row 2 !!).  I understand that it's a first world problem but it's still a disappointment and a complete PITA if you have a physical reason (6'6" of them) to be in FC and now you have to deal with the consequences.

Is the change for the entire itinerary or only one leg ?

The decision to go up to a JS (from a balcony) or not really depends on how much more, and how many nights.

You mentioned a 4-nighter, so I'd move up from a balcony to a JS if the price was not more than maybe $100/day.

I think the OP is asking about going down from a JS to an inside....but the rationale is the same...

I also saw the same thing on the app but I’m sure there will be lobster tails on one of the formal nights. Super excited for the anthem cruise next week! Are any of you bringing masks just in case during your travels next week? We are travelling from the UK.

Welcome to the blog, groovybee (love your screen name !).  I am excited too !  1 week !  No, we will not bring masks.

  9. If I am reading the post correctly, you are asking about downgrading your JS to a lower category cabin.  Since a JS is not really treated the same way as a full suite, you should be able to downgrade it without penalty.  So long as you change neither the ship nor the sail date, you are not subject to the non-refundable penalty.

Whether or not it is a good decision to downgrade your cabin and use that savings to book an additional cruise or not is really a personal choice.  I would do a very careful calculation to determine if the savings from the downgrade of a 4 night Enchantment cruise would really be enough to finance another complete cruise.  Without knowing the details, I would be skeptical. By the time you pay another complete cruise fare, add another round of taxes, port fees and gratuities, I wonder of the savings you would realize on the downgrade would cover it.  Then again, for probably a small amount of additional $$, you might get a whole ‘nother cruise....so...

  10. Hey, Ally -  I will always choose Oasis but that’s just me.  1 port of call and 3 sea days (counting day 1 as a sea day) sounds like heaven to me but some people prefer more ports.  I think you would find that the extra sea days give you more opportunity to explore the ship, which is really the best part of cruising on a Oasis.  Nothing wrong with NAV !  I just prefer the big ships.

Thanks for the feedback.  Our TA is strongly recommending it, because of not flying in the day before.  I know they won't hold the ship, but supposedly would get us to our next port (Aruba) if we missed sail-away from PR.  It isn't much cheaper using A-2-S, in fact we are paying a little more than I find with Southwest.  BUT, our TA is pretty adamant that we should do it.

I will sometimes do the same thing, for the same reasons when I am flying in the same day.  There is nothing wrong with using the Royal shuttle service and I have done it too, for the same reason that you gave for using A2S.  To be honest, up until very recently, the ride share services on PR were banned at the airport and very unreliable elsewhere.  I think they have recently been permitted to service the airport and port but frankly, I would choose either the Royal shuttle or a taxi.  Once you are on the island, you’re golden and the ship has a very late departure so there’s no hurry to get on board except just to get on board !  I recommend you do whatever makes it easiest for you.  You would probably get to the ship a bit quicker using a taxi b/c you wouldn’t have to wait for other passengers to board the shuttle....but there’s nothing wrong with using the shuttle.
