Like a plane ride, train trip or ferry ride it's almost certain that symptoms of a viral infection that occurs during the transportation will only present themselves days after the transportation has concluded. 
That makes them appear to be safe.  By the time someone has symptoms they've been involved with so many other activities it becomes difficult to know for certain it was the plane/train/ferry where the infection occurred.  Maybe it was in a visit to a store the day before, maybe it was at church the day after, maybe it was that pub that just opened after the trip, or the person who picked you up in their car, etc.   
In the end those modes of transportation are just as risky or more so compared to a cruise but it's more difficult to know they were involved with an infection so it's easier to give them a green light and mark them as safe.

I agree.

The big joke among people who know me is why would I want to go on a cruise ship surrounded by people when I don't like crowds?  It's hard to explain to someone who has never been on a cruise that, with just a couple exceptions, I can always find plenty of personal space.  

 

This is beyond ridiculous! The Cruise Line Executives really continue to be sitting pretty collecting their enormous salaries while hurting all of those around them in the industry. Have some FAITH in your product! Have some empathy for your travel partners besides putting out videos that say pretty much nothing at this point, be transparent!  While you're at it Fain get a haircut and wash your own hands, clearly you have washed your hands of all who support you! And where are our REFUNDS?? Why can I still book sailings in August 2020?  Shame on you!
 
 

I watch the news every day. The "lazy news outlets" are reporting infections, hospitalizations and deaths.

All of this talk of glasses made me think of a event on the Adventure in 2015. It was a Sunday in the fall which meant football on a sea day. The venues were packed with boisterous fans having  great time. It was also the Captain's welcome reception night. Coinciding with the game crowds was the well practiced setup of hundreds upon hundreds of full champagne glasses for the impending reception as the late games wound down In a moment of celebration one fan danced unaware into the tables of Champagne. The tumbling dominoes of sparkling wine were impressive to witness! Perhaps even more impressive was the crew who had it cleaned and fully replaced in a matter of minutes.

I'm shutting down this thread, as the discussion of what Richard Fain said is long past, and this is entering "yet another political debate" thread.

I would say that at this point, very few ships are "for sail" relative to the number that are for sale.

Our DMV is requiring the public to wear a mask when entering the building but the employees at the DMV are NOT required to wear one.  So that entire argument of "its not to protect you, its to protect others" is thrown completely out the window when the government that is forcing citizens into this "New Normal" BS doesn't have to follow their own guidelines.  
I have not worn a mask since this started and I will not wear one.  If a business requires it then they don't need my money.  I actually think for myself instead of blindly following the masses that listen to people with an agenda.  

We are wearing masks for exactly the intent you referenced in the article. To prevent you from getting others sick. You may be an asymptomatic carrier or you may be infected but don’t have the symptoms yet. It’s not to protect you it’s to protect everyone else.  

Tell that to the brother of my daughter's classmate -- 24 years old, EMT, healthy as an ox, and died from the virus less than a week after getting confirmed with having it.
Tell it to the thousands like him who are now gone and buried. Sorry, but I am not in the mood to hear any kind of statement like that. Here or anywhere else.
 

I've noticed that all your posts have been doom and gloom articles against RCL, Do you not like RCL? 
Or are you a plant for another cruise line trying to sway us that direction, if so, you're not doing well because you haven't advertised that cruise line yet. ?

The 50% may be more than just a number .... It could be used as a perception to the general public that cruising is back .... as they say, Perception is Reality.  The long term goal will be, letting people know that cruising is safe and back open for business.  Could there be a short term lost in revenue?  Possible.  But the long term benefit could possibly outweigh that short term deficit.

The name of it sounds like a tagline for underwear: "Lift & Shift for that Royal Wedgie."

Just FYI, the use of a two-way radio will generally make you one of the most hated people on the ship.

Thanks to all the great info from royal caribbean blog and this message board, I looked and found out that my sept 2021 cruise priced had dropped.  When I booked we booked under the 60% off second guest and upto $200 instant savings.  This sale is still going on, but the actual cruise priced dropped.  Called and had it repriced and saved $165.  So we turned around and paid $308 for unlimited dinning.  So Dont really know who the winner here is, me or royal, but bet we are both happy.

I wish my actual C&A status was Pinnacle!

But, why are so many of you calling to talk with Royal about your refund? Do you think that your call is in any way speeding up your refund? 
I also have a refund coming. I'm not going to call. If I do, all that will happen is my expectations will be raised and I will be irritated. I believe that there is nothing I can do to make my refund come faster.

Great post @AnnetteJackson !  Always great to hear a voice of reason.  Money can cause a lot of anxiety, frustration, and every other human reaction and emotion.  I need my fees and taxes back to make the deposit on a rebooked cruise.  Its my money and I expect to get it back. Others may need it just to put food on the table, and others might just get wound up at the thought that they aren’t going to get the money back at all.  

Those members posting over an over about it is not going to make it happen any faster and has made coming to this forum far less attractive for me in the last few days. Everybody has the right to do as they please, but count me among those that are tired over the vocal minority who post about the same issue again and again.
