This I get, I've done this also, what I'm talking about is the tremendous amount of waste in the WJ.

If it's something new and you don't know if you like it, get a little and if you like it go get more. I've seen people go get 3 or 4 deserts and then only eat 2, the ship can't put those back just because they weren't eaten.

Ok, off my soap box now.

Yes, as you probably figured I wasn't thinking WJ.  But a very good point by you.  Not trying to get you back up on your preaching box, but inconsiderate people exist.  There is enough garbage and waste in the world today, if we would all do our part...

That's my experience. Harmony and Symphony have no problems exchanging old bands, but Anthem told me no.

Bummer as we are again sailing on the Anthem!

The OP posted a price of $4.99.  Is that correct?  If so, it is a lot cheaper than I thought.  Maybe I'll try it.

Does anyone know if I purchase a WOW band on Anthem, can I then reuse it next year on Harmony?  Or are the Anthem bands all locked down to just that ship?

  3. I have done Canada several times out of NYC, but usually in October and there was no problem.  I would think July would potentially have even smoother seas.  That is unless you run across a storm, or even worse a Hurricane.  FYI, We are going again this October 24th on the Anthem.  Looking forward to it.

IMO, the bionic bar is a huge waste of valuable real estate.  Terrible drinks and once you've gotten 1 drink from there, the novelty is over.  I loved the Champagne bar.  Bad tradeoff.

Glad to hear that they are not putting Wonderland on Oasis !  Another huge waste of valuable real estate.

@WAAAYTOOO  Completely agree on both accounts.  I like to watch the Bionic Bar when it is working, which is almost never!  And Cecile will not even let me book Wonderland to try it.  She just doesn't like the looks of the menu.

My feelings: Order as much as you want, try new things, multiples of any item you really like,  just try to keep waste to a minimum.

Agreed.  But right or wrong, I like to try new food items on a cruise that I wouldn't elsewhere.  I pretty much eat anything, but sometimes I'll come across something I just can't eat.  It's unfortunate but at least it doesn't happen often - almost never these days.

I wonder if this limited menu is enough to satisfy our vegan cruising friends. I'm not sure 4 or 5 choices would be enough to make me happy for entire week. Has anyone had luck requesting vegan menu items in the MDR as @Matthas suggested?

My sister-in-law travels with us often (she is also Diamond) and is vegan.  We have always had good luck at the MDR.  I think the key is talking to the Maitre'd or a Head Waiter on the very first day of the cruise.  That way it gets properly documented and in almost all cases, once we do that, she has a good experience.  At dinner, once we sit down our waiter will come to us and ask if anyone if someone has special requirements.  Once we say that Dee is vegan, they will offer her suggestions or she will tell the waiter what she wants, can or can't have, and they work something out together.  She is usually very satisfied.  Also every night, sometime during our meal, a special waiter will stop at our table to talk to her about her next night's meal.  This is a very nice gesture, but in practice it doesn't always work out every time.  Her best luck is to just work out a meal with our assigned waiter.  Nowadays we usually do My Time dining, so that waiter may not be the same each night.  It is good to see going forward she will have a printed menu to work off of - yay RCCL...

I should also add that she has never been to Chops, but has had good luck at Jamie's.

I’ve had spa staff approach me while on the ship and offer me special deals if I book for that day.  Port days you get the best deals. My friend and her daughter were laying by the pool on a port day, a staff member offered then Massages for half the price she saw them for in the cruise planner. If they do not book A certain amount of appointments they will start offering deep discounts to fill spots much like the specialty restaurants.

@Cat mom  Have you seen deep discounts on specialty restaurants?  I have never seen this before.  Maybe I have never been in the right place at the right time.  We booked a 3N dining package for our OCT cruise and have not seen that price drop at all.  Where on the ship would we look?

  8. @bmatrose  Seems like you have a good relationship with your TA.  You should just ask them if you can stack all three discounts (TA's lower price, myVEGAS discount, & NextCruise certificates)?  Here is a snip from a NextCruise doc which states they are combinable.  I find having to transfer a cert to a TA is somewhat of a PIA, but worth it if you really want that extra discount.  Personally, I stopped doing this awhile ago.

On Empress our waiter would make suggestions each night.  If one of us didn't order it he would bring it for the table to share.  We always had extra food.  Order anything you want.  The only issue you would have is in specialty restaurants where a second entree will cost you $10.  But you can have multiple apps and desserts.

If you have the UDP, do they still charge $10 for a second entree?

My question is how tacky is it to order multiple servings of the food on the menu?  How many orders of the cocktail shrimp? The escargot?  How many main entree orders fall in embarrassing territory?  I thinking you’re getting what I’m driving at.  How much is too much?

I don't see why food quantity should be an issue.  My personal guess is if you stay within the normal 2 hour time-slot, are nice to the staff, order all of your items at the same time, and eat with reasonable manners - all the normal considerate stuff - you should be fine.  I have seen two main entrees many times in the past.  And I have seen groups split multiple entrees.  I don't ever recall anyone ordering three, but I bet if you ask up front and offer to skip the appetizer that they would be happy to make it work and squeeze in that appetizer too.  Again this is just my opinion as I have never seen it done.

The other thing I have seen quite often is if I have trouble making an entree decision between two items, they sometimes just go ahead and bring me both.  But that was a while ago and I think these days you actually have to ask the waiter.

I once ordered two escargot appetizers, two escargot appetizers for my meal, and two escargot appetizers for desert.  The staff laughed, but got the idea that I really like escargot.  They brought me an unlimited supply and did manage to fit in an actual entree which they picked for me.  It was actually pretty fun and my waiter made me feel like a king.  When he brought me the escargot as the entree he announced it as such, and then laughed a bit.  Then he actually brought them out as my desert and again announced them as desert, I think we both laughed.  It was probably the most memorable dinner I have ever had on a ship.  I will never forget it for sure.

Do I need to bring my own stainless steal or silicone straw so I can get my drink on? I remember reading somewhere that RCCL doesn't have plastic straws anymore?

Yeah, this is a bit of a nuisance.  My wife Ceil works at RISD and picked up some glass straws at a student sale.  Glass is great as it adds no taste whatsoever.  She has a case and brings them everywhere with her.  Me, I haven't used them since I was a kid (yes, at Rexall).  I guess I am old too like @FManke.  I must say I do have one exception to my rule - that's when I drink an occasional milkshake. (or Coffee Cabinet - a RI thing).

I miss those straws and the little paper cone soda cups you used to get at the Woolworths lunch counter as a kid! Only other "seniors" like me will know what I'm talking about. ?

How about Rexall Drug Stores - they had the same paper cone cups.  The root beer was to die for.  I guess they used a very sugary syrup.

The price on my dining package on Anthem next Feb went down from $229 PP to $176 PP. While still high, this is the first time I’ve seen it lower than $199 PP. I’m sure it’s high due to Wonderland <shudder> and the fact that it’s 8 days vs 7 days.

That looks like a good deal to me.  My 9N Oct Anthem UDP (Ultimate Dining Package) has been sitting at $225 and the 3NDP (3 Night Dining Package) has been at $99 and holding steady.  These prices are the same as my past 9N Jun Anthem cruise.  I don't ever see the discounts you all write about here.  BOO HOO  ?
