Nobody should be made to look like an idiot.  However, it’s hard to answer your question without knowing how much soda, coffee and water you and your son normally drink.  As for us...We always purchase the booze package...It’s worth it to us because we both like our specialty coffees in the morning...Three or four drinks during the day and we always grab bottles of water on our way back to the room to store in the fridge for shore days.  We also find that we will have another ice drink or two while sitting around the pool since we don’t have to worry about the bill.  You just need to ask yourself if the extra $100 would make your vacation more relaxing not having to worry about what you are drinking and how much.

@spiralqueen, I have purchased the soda packages for us both. Also the Evian package of 12 1L bottles and a coffee card for myself. I just wonder if that will be enough for us! Thank you for being so kind! This is an awesome group!

Then we would think your son would be happy with the soda package...He could mix to his hearts content on the Freestyle machines.  Sounds like the refreshment package would work for you.?

@Psycho and Barb, you’re absolutely right about not enough information. I love my Coke Zero and caramel macchiatos, and my son loves mixing flavors with Sprite! I will need bottled water for port days for sure!

But seriously, glad it mostly worked out for you. 

Never ever take a surge protector on a cruise ship.  Surge protection works by detecting current relative to earth ground but there's literally no such thing when you are at sea.  Grounding works completely differently on a ship's electrical system and a surge protector can catch fire.  Therefore, for safety, all surge protectors are banned and because port staff aren't trained electricians, they often reject normal power strips as well.  If you really need one on board, just ask your stateroom attendant and they will provide something known to be ship safe.

I think if you were to take 100 cruises it would be confiscated around 33 times, but that is simply a guess.  Here's why:
Security staff screening carry on and luggage are not electrical engineers who understand the nuance of why one item versus another item that both look identical are in fact different.    They simply see something that *could* be prohibited and since it looks like something they've been instructed to confiscate, they *might* confiscate it.  On any given Sunday you might be fine but then on another Saturday you might not.
Someone might offer "I've cruised before and mine wasn't taken"  (therefore it must be universally approved).  
With only a few cruises under my belt (around 45) I've gotten things on board several cruises and been randomly denied on several cruises.  Once I get to a 100 cruises I'll consider myself to have taken enough cruises to have a large enough sample size to consider my experiences to be the basis of a conclusion.  Until then my random denials suggest to me you too may be subject to a random denial as well despite your item appearing to be acceptable.    
Reading the description I don't see where it claims to be "certified".  It does say that it adheres to the terms and conditions of cruise lines.  However that is not a "certification" that you can argue or point to at the moment in time when security is objecting to it.

We’ve been to the bad room before and now only cruise with this since most of our electronics are USB chargeable.  Never had it questioned.

We like watching the pier runners videos but do feel sorry for them and would love to hear their story.  We have witnessed from our balcony cruise passengers being kicked off the ship and none of them have left elegantly...Just wished I would of had my camera handy at the time. 

We got notified by our TA on Monday! We elected to move to the Allure sailing the same dates...Just out of Miami now and a different itinerary.  Just replied back to our TA email with our choice and they made it happen...No fuss or muss.  Got 200 OBC!

Adapt and overcome.

We are on this cruise and hearing two different rumors even though we haven’t heard anything from Royal.  Has anyone heard anything?
Rumor One  Some passengers are being notified the cruise is canceled because the Oasis needs maintenance maintenance...Strange during spring break.  This is being done by Royal to make room for some special group booking. 
Romor Two is the cruise is canceled for maintenance. 

I have seen it both ways.  One time they said our newby son and wife could join us in line.  Other times, we were told no for some friends.  We will jump in what ever line is the shortest even though we are Diamond.  But we always wait for them before getting on the ship...So we can get on together.  
We will be on the ship with you next week...Can’t wait to get back to the ABC Islands ?

In my experiences in the MDR, they will allow you to wear shorts on regular nights.  For formal nights, they will require pants.  On my last cruise I witnessed them turning someone away from the MDR on formal night for wearing shorts.  

OOPS. Guess i should have posted this in the News and Rumors Area. I don't see a way to move it. My wife and I will become Diamond Plus by April. I hope the don't raise the point requirements for D+ before we get there.

Regularly checking the cruise planner really is mandatory - Royal is consistently inconsistent - I can already book dining for the Symphony Transatlantic which is still 368 days away! Dining became available anytime between October 12 and yesterday - didn't check in between as I was cruising the mediterranean. Might be a new record for booking dining so far in advance?
