GatorCruiser Posted March 16 Author Report Posted March 16 Decided to give playmakers another shot. They’ve redeemed themselves if at least temporarily, goalpost marg and for the first time the buffalo chicken crunch wraps. I still haven’t figured out how we’ve never had them before. They were good. OCSC Mike, Ampurp85, JohnK6404 and 4 others 7 Quote

smokeybandit Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 I expect to be at playmakers a good bit later in the week. Walked through today expecting the SEC game to be on and it be busy, neither was the case Quote

If you’re ever on a ship with Cantina Fresca (bar attached to ELF on ships like Wonder & Utopia), they have it too, they just call it a pineapple jalapeño marg. It’s usually more convenient for me to get it there but it’s the same thing, just in a plastic pool deck glass. InmyElement and Sweety 2 Quote

Is it the Cantina Fresca menu (basically margaritas)? As much as I prefer Oasis class, I'd be perfectly happy on Freedom with ELF and Playmakers. I don't need the extra shows/neighborhoods (though I enjoy them) but I do need the food options. InmyElement, GatorCruiser, Sweety and 1 other 4 Quote

GatorCruiser Posted March 16 Author Report Posted March 16 What is fascinating is how large the playmakers is on this ship. Yea, @Kelseylovestocruise goalpost is delish. Man I love sea days. Catting around hitting up different spots. Did the flowrider yesterday and pulled a back muscle. Went down a water slide and pulled a quad. I’m not quite 50 but already may be a vintage. #prayforme Sweety, MaryS, Kelseylovestocruise and 8 others 2 3 1 1 4 Quote

I'm guessing Freedom's is similar. Either way, we liked it better than the Oasis class boardwalk version, especially in the summer. 37 minutes ago, GatorCruiser said: Went down a water slide and pulled a quad. 32 minutes ago, smokeybandit said: In October I swear a sprained my mcl playing soccer on Jewel. This is why I've never tried the Abyss... I'm convinced I'd somehow injure myself, not seriously, but I don't need anything negatively impacting my cruise. Walking up 11 decks once was bad enough. My legs were burning but fortunately I didn't actually hurt myself. Sweety, GatorCruiser and Ampurp85 3 Quote

Ampurp85 Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 Yeah on Indy and freedom the Playmakers is pretty large since it's the space between the start of the casino, and the dinning room. The burger, wings and nachos......plus onion ring tower for my brother is the best options. I personally prefer beers to the specialty drinks they have. OCSC Mike, Sweety and GatorCruiser 3 Quote

GatorCruiser Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 Today was a sea day. Slept in. Went to SL for coffee, top tier event. Exercised my cup clip a lot. Tepanyakki at Izumi for dinner. Great as always. Tomorrow is puerta plata and our excursion. I’ll report back. Some good partying going on on this ship. My wife was going back to the room and a lady enters the Elevator completely hammered on deck 5 but kept saying how she was supposed to be meeting people on deck 5. She couldn’t be convinced she was already on the correct deck. InmyElement, Robert M, Ampurp85 and 5 others 7 1 Quote

It probably didn’t help that we were all hangry from a 7 am-2:30 pm (late arrival back to ship) excursion with no time to purchase food. It drives me nuts that we sat down, the waiter took our drink orders and I said we wanted to order food. Brought drinks, ran away, didn’t look in our direction for at least 20-25 minutes. We got up to head to loco fresh and then he comes over to ask why we were leaving. I guess the moral of the story is don’t go to Playmakers when you are starving. El loco fresh hit the spot! smokeybandit Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 I've only been on navigator and mariner with the small playmakers until this cruise Quote
Ampurp85 Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Playmakers does have the worse service of any restaurant of Royal’s fleet. My thinking is because it's a bar that serves food. At least when I frequent one I notice plenty of people use it but so few tip, so the crew have become jaded. We had some bad service. Then tip and come back to some of the best service. On Freedom I have had some of the better service. Odyssey still stands as the worst. Sweety 1 Quote
Lovetocruise2002 Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 From personal experience, Playmakers on Oasis class has always been good for us. Freedom and Odyssey were a big thumbs down. Odyssey Playmakers was the one and only restaurant I have ever walked out on. Sweety, Ampurp85, OCSC Mike and 1 other 3 1 Quote
OCSC Mike Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Overall, we haven’t had any major issues with Playmakers (twice on Indy, multiple times on Wonder). Once or twice the service has gotten a little slow b/c our server has been bartending at the same time. I wouldn’t expect the same level of service as a full speciality restaurant (which has always been excellent), just don’t forget about us when we want drink refills or to pay the bill.
