We are planning a family trip to Europe in June 2026. My brother and his wife are expecting a baby in January 2025, and we’re wondering if it’s possible to make the booking now without knowing the sex, date of birth, or name of the future child? It feels like an unusual situation, but given how far in advance we need to book, we wanted to understand our predicament.

Thank you

Yes. I did exactly this a few years ago before my son was born. We used his due date and just changed it to the correct day after he was born. We didn’t need to change the name on the reservation but you can change a first name fairly easy.

I wish I would have known that name changes were allowed.

many years ago we planned a future cruise while my wife was pregnant and we named our beautiful child the name we had given our wonderful travel agent even though we wanted to name the baby something else at birth.

that makes for an awesome story though! "We wanted to name you something else but already had a vacation booked in a name we used to like, so we were stuck"

we have just done the exact same thing for my daughter. Phoned up as we needed 5 cabins for a family holiday and the unborn has been put on with a DoB as 1/1/24 for the moment and the name of Mister TBA Surname. they seemed quite happy with that and we will update the details once the "bowling ball" has been born.

Best of luck to your brother and his wife
