I'd love to be a fly on the wall of the C&A offices to review the differences in drinks served during the old happy hours vs how many people use all their drink vouchers every day.

The wall may be a dangerous place to be if chief financial officer throws something out of frustration.

I’m a sample size of one but feel my actions are reflective of others.

Upon becoming diamond I was pumped to have access to the lounge (open bar for 3 hours, hammer down) However, It was a bit “stuffy” for my taste. It was my only cruise without drink package.
Now cruising Star, I gift my vouchers to those with empty glasses each night in the pub. This has generated some fun/interesting conversations.

With a cost of goods sold averaging $1-$2 per drink (wine slightly higher, beer less) providing the vouchers is a rounding error for Royal Caribbean.
That said, I think that the average number of complementary drinks utilized by diamond and above is higher with voucher program due to the ease of use because not time or location limited. The rule using a voucher for each drink in lounge only reduces consumption of those who dedicated their evenings to loud conversations regarding how many cruise points and upcoming cruises they have.

An even more interesting discussion (among management) will be to determine how many DBP packages they are NOT selling now.  Even though I drink almost no alcohol, we have been very reliable DBP+VOOM  customers for the convenience.  But with prices as high as they are (and seemingly going higher, still) I have not purchased a DBP+VOOM package for any of my 2023 /2024 cruises and most likely will not.  I will (presumably) be utilizing D+ and casino drinks instead.  I don’t think we’re alone.

Based on all the continuous beverage package questions on the various forums and facebook pages, I would imagine they still sell pretty good.

I would guess the voucher program is much more fiscal. It was happy hour plus 3 restrictive vouchers, which would result in a lot more alcohol consumed. Because some people are not getting the DX but buying their other drinks a la carte.

My  wife and I were discussing this the other night. We’re not Diamond yet, but it could happen this year.  Wo don’t really drink alcohol and have been buying the refreshment package for all our cruises.  We’re thinking we drop to the soda package and then use our vouchers for coffee, bottle water, and mocktails.  We also have to factor in the Freestyle machine availability since she likes the Powerade Zero that is in the machine. On the “rare” ships with no freestyle machine then maybe we get that refreshment package since more water may be consumed. If the vouchers “rolled over” it would make the thought ices much easier.

we also, don’t want to be limited, so we may set us a price point for the refreshment package and then use the vouchers to “try” things that we’ve never had before.

You can get powerade in bottles with your vouchers
