I think we all should exercise a lot of caution with respect to sharing personal health choices and information with any private business.   If a sports venue or movie theater starts building a d

Just another opportunity to drive a bigger wedge into the double standard of travel by cruise ship versus literally any other form of travel

This new guidance from the CDC is consistent with what many developed countries are thinking or doing.  Vaccinated equates to lower risk. You don't have to look very far to find evidence of many

privacy and civil liberty concerns

Privacy would not be an issue since HIPPA compliance would need to be adhered to. Inasmuch, the only info and requirement needed would be if the passenger was vaccinated against COVID. As a passenger, you give the cruise line more information about youself than you realized pre-covid.

As for civil liberties concern, which would be privacy, explained above. You protect privacy every day by ensuring that personally identifiable information is appropriately gathered, documented, used, retained, and shared. Generally speaking, personally identifiable information includes data that can be used to identify a specific individual, such as an individual’s name, home address, credit card information or social security number, which cruise lines already have this information as you, the passenger, trusted the cruise line and provided this information to them. Insofar, the concern of privacy is a moot argument.

Final point, if you are on Facebook and/or any message boards including THIS board, you have already disclosed your private information and most do not realize it. Just by reading this, your name and home address is known. Big Brother is always watching.

And so I ask, what is the issue by letting the cruise lines know you have been vaccinated unless you have an ulterior motive or hiding something.

The question was about a vaccine passport mandate, not voluntarily letting someone (in this case, a cruise line) know you're vaccinated.

if the CDC was going to mandate vaccines, they would have in their CSO update.  Instead they just "recommend" one when "available to them" (key wording for youth vaccines, IMO)

I’m not convinced CDC mandating vaccine is off the table yet

I'll rephrase it. What is the issue with the vaccine passport mandate which will be used to verify to the cruise lines that you have been vaccinated against COVID?

It's a much bigger question than just cruise lines. It's the thought that everything you do in public will be dictated by your having a passport or not. But further discussion outside the scope of cruising isn't necessary for this board.

I'm sure after reading the below article, you will no longer have to worry:

Covid: US rules out federal vaccine passports

The White House has ruled out introducing mandatory federal Covid-19 vaccination passports, saying citizens' privacy and rights should be protected.

Schemes to introduce such passports have been touted around the world as a way to enable safe circulation of people while fighting the pandemic.

But critics say such documents could be discriminatory.

The US said it did not and would not support a "system that requires Americans to carry a credential".

The country has reported more than 550,000 deaths linked to the virus and nearly 31 million cases, the highest numbers in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Addressing reporters, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said there would be no "federal vaccinations database" or a "federal mandate requiring everyone to obtain a single vaccination credential".

"The government is not now, nor will be, supporting a system that requires Americans to carry a credential," she said. "Our interest is very simple from the federal government, which is Americans' privacy and rights should be protected, and so that these systems are not used against people unfairly."

Countries around the world are looking at the introduction of so-called vaccine passports, which would be used to show that a person has been inoculated against Covid-19, as a way of safely reopening mass gatherings and travel.

In England, a "Covid status certification" scheme is being developed to enable concerts and sports matches to take place. It would record whether people had been vaccinated, recently tested negative, or had already had and recovered from Covid-19.

The European Union is also working on plans to introduce certificates, while in Israel a "Green Pass" is already available to anyone who has been fully vaccinated or has recovered from Covid-19, which they have to show to access facilities such as hotels, gyms or theatres.

The World Health Organization on Tuesday said it did not currently support requiring vaccination passports for travel, because of uncertainty over whether inoculation prevents transmission, and discrimination concerns.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that he had brought forward to 19 April the date by which all American adults will be eligible for a Covid vaccine.

"We have to ramp up a whole-of-government approach that rallies the whole country and puts us on a war footing to truly beat this virus," he said.

In the latest set back to the cruise industry the CDC has confirmed its highly scientific process has once again seen the ship wheel card come up in an order that prevents cruise ship voyages at least until the next card reading.

A CDC spokeswoman is hopeful the wheel card might land in a different order next time but cautioned their lead clairvoyant Walensky has predicted the end of the world before that occurs during the agencies recent psychic seance Voom call.
