This is exactly what my family has been doing for the last few cruises, and with the same expectations regarding time.
Not sure what we're going to be doing on Majesty next week; no specialty restaurants, so we'll probably ask for MTD and bounce between that and the Windjammer. 

Not to mention that, for the most part, the items being served in the MDR are also being served in the WJ. Plus, the food is warmer as they haven't been sitting on a covered plate along with the 23 others destined for your waiter's section.

Will just add one note -- if you don't expect to eat in the MDR, either on a specific night or not at all, notify your wait staff or the maitre'd ahead of time. This will let them know not to wait for you before taking orders from the others at your table, if you were assigned to a larger table with more guests than just your party.

I would rather just drive down to Ft. Lauderdale the 3 hours than have to deal with driving to the airport> airport parking> taking luggage to baggage check> baggage fees> TSA> waiting at the gate> boarding process> flying to FLL> deplaning> baggage claim> shuttle/bus/Uber to the cruise port and then doing it all over again when you get back.
But, I am also cheap and wouldn't want to pay for airfare when I don't have to!

Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale? Heck I'd much rather drive that (relatively) small distance than mess around with all the nonsense at the airport, lost or overweight luggage, backups at TSA checks, parking costs, etc.

Oh gosh... Portofinos was the best!  Loved eating there on our first cruise on Explorer.

Actually, I think the old Portofinos was the best of them all but those have been gone for years.  Too bad really

I'm good with any of these.

I'm fairly certain that at least 93% of Darwin Award winners do not know who Darwin is. (Why 93%? I don't know, an odd number makes it sound more official.)

Well it really depends on where you are going as well. 
1. You might not be able to board the ship.
2. You  will be fine.
3. You will be detained, imprisoned and executed.
Number 3 is not that likely though.
