Just booked the May 15th, 2022 Alaska cruise on the Serenade.

I have some FCC from our cancelled cruise May 2020.

Kelley from MEI is my TA.

She has been excellent on getting my deposit extended due to RCCL error.

She has gotten me a better rate then advertised.

Then today, Sunday, I get an email from her that she got an even lower rate with a refundable deposit.

If anyone is on the fence about getting a TA please know I'm more than happy, Kelley is awesome!

First time ever using a TA

So glad you are using Kelley and MEI-Travel - TA are good people !!!

Just got a present in my inbox.

    Dear Guest,

We hope that this email finds you healthy and safe. As you know, the current situation has been, and still is, quite fluid. The CDC’s Conditional Sailing Order is a positive step for the cruising industry, and we are anxious to welcome guests back onboard. We recently extended our global suspension through December 31st, 2020, excluding sailings onboard Quantum of the Seas, to ensure we have ample time to focus on our healthy return to service initiatives. However, in order to allow additional time for our preparation, we’ve decided to further extend our global suspension through February 28th, 2021 for most of our fleet, along with our Australian season through April 30th, 2021. While we are excluding our newly deployed Singapore sailings and select sailings onboard Spectrum of the Seas from this suspension, our plan is to resume our broader global operations on March 1st, 2021. As a result, your sailing will unfortunately be cancelled.

We’re terribly sorry for the impact to your vacation. Despite the current circumstances, our primary goal continues to be a seamless and healthy return to service. We’re hyper-focused on welcoming you back! We’ve teamed up with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. and have assembled the “Healthy Sail Panel” - a multifaceted team of globally recognized experts. The panel will work alongside our new Public Health & Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Calvin Johnson, and with their help, our vision is to pioneer innovative ways to guide the cruise industry’s way forward in response to the pandemic. It goes without saying, we’re all in this together.

While we all wish we were cruising, we do have some options for you, including an option that has been very well received by our guests, as it provides a little something extra to use once we all start cruising again! Here are your options:

    1. 125% Future Cruise Credit: We’re providing you with a125% Future Cruise Credit to book a new cruise by April 30th, 2022.

    • This amount is based on your total cruise fare paid, and we’re giving you a little extra, knowing that this is such a unique circumstance.
    • Your certificate can be used on any Royal Caribbean International sailing that departs on or before April 30th, 2022.
    • We’ll automatically send your Future Cruise Credit via email by January 15th, 2021, so there’s nothing for you to do!
    • Taxes & fees and any RoyalUp upgrades will be automatically refunded. Current refund processing is around 45 days. We are working as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your patience.
    • Please note:
      • If you opted into the Cruise with Confidence 100% Future Cruise Credit, this offer does not apply.
      • And, if you previously used a Future Cruise Credit (including previous Global Suspension FCCs), you’ll receive a new Future Cruise Credit. This will be for 125% of any new monies paid on this sailing, plus the value of your original credit at 100% of its value, with an expiration and sail by date of April 30, 2022.
      • If you were already impacted by a sailing that was previously cancelled due to a global suspension and paid additional monies on a new booking within this extended suspension period, you are still able to opt in to refund one or both cancelled bookings via the process below.

    2. Lift and Shift: If you prefer to move your existing booking to a sailing next year - we’re happy to move you! We will price protect the original pricing and/or promotion on the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category as your original sailing within 4 weeks (before or after) of the original sail date the following year. For example, if you are moving from a January 1st, 2021 sailing, you can move to a sailing that is the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category, and the sail date between December 1st, 2021 - February 1st, 2022.

    • Please know, price protection covers your cruise fare/promotion on an applicable sailing only and excludes taxes and fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items, as these may change.
    • You must decide to move to a new sailing by December 16th, 2020. If not, we will automatically issue you a Future Cruise Credit.
    • Complimentary Casino offers are not eligible for Lift & Shift.

    3. 100% Refund: Or, if you prefer a full refund, which is a lower value than the future cruise credit offer above, we’re happy to process this for you. Given how fluid this situation is, and the opportunity to use the extra credit being offered, you have until March 31st, 2021 to request a refund and deactivate your certificate.

    • Please contact us to start the refund process, forfeiting the higher value of your 125% Future Cruise Credit.
      • To avoid waiting on the phone to cancel, click here and we will get the refund process started for you. Note: Please know, once we receive your refund request, we unfortunately won’t be able to accept an FCC request if you change your mind.
    • We’ll then deactivate your Future Cruise Credit and process your refund to your original form(s) of payment, which will include any non-refundable deposits.
    • You can expect to receive your refund 45 days after you submit your refund request.
    • Please note: If you used a Cruise with Confidence certificate on this sailing, and you request a refund instead, we’ll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we’ll reinstate your original Cruise with Confidence certificate.

And, a special option for those that also purchased Cruise Planner Items…

    • You can opt-in to receive an Onboard Credit in the value of 125% of the total Cruise Planner purchases on your reservation.
      • Click here by December 16th, 2020 to request your higher value credit, and we’ll email you your credit by January 15th, 2021.
    • If we don’t hear from you on or before December 16th, 2020, your Cruise Planner purchases will be automatically refunded. You’ll receive your refund within 45 days of your booking’s cancellation. We are working as quickly as possible and appreciate your patience during these unprecedented times.
    • Also, if you opt for a cruise fare refund or for Lift and Shift, you are not be eligible for this Cruise Planner Onboard Credit offer.
    • Questions about how the Cruise Planner credit works? Click here for more details.

Guests with air or hotel booked…

    • Refundable air or hotel accommodations purchased through Royal Caribbean will be automatically refunded to you within 45 days after we process the cancellation.
    • If you booked non-refundable air through Royal Caribbean or booked on your own, please contact the service provider directly for your options with them.

If you have any questions, please contact your Travel Advisor immediately or contact us at:

Soooo .... Am I suppose to assume the 14 night Panama Canal cruise on October 1st 2021 isn't happening???

I was planning on using the FCC from our Trans Atlantic cruise on Anthem scheduled for April 2021 on the Panama cruise.  I don't think the Trans Atlantic will happen so the Panama Canal cruise was my back-up.

Any recommendations??  I wonder if lift and shift to 2022 will be an option???  Are longer cruises done for the foreseeable future??

hang tight I called in on this as well and they are saying system error and for people not to panic yet...

Thanks for the confirmation, @michelle! What have you heard about Europe? I thought that was what was coming on the 16th, but is it actually further out than that?

yes, I think Europe will be December or later.  They just have too many ships moving and not enough to go on into 2022 for Europe yet

Keep watching their announcements, hoping its not too far out

@Lovetocruise2002, let's hope that's accurate for Royal's sailings at least. When I saw that, I went and tried to do some Googling and see if I could find anything similar for Celebrity. But all I found was a CC thread from Sept 21, where one of the posters claimed that a group of TAs had a conference call with X on the 18th and asked that very question (what is the expected schedule for 2022-2023 itinerary announcements?). The reply was (allegedly), "possibly March of '21, but that could change." ?

@Sharla, @michelle, @AnnetteJackson -- any of you able to confirm or deny the above? I realize this is quite probably codswallop (love that word!), but would appreciate any reassurance you might be able to offer.

Gotta love serendipity (or would this be synchronicity?) -- Just got an email from my TA a few minutes after posting this. Celebrity to announce Alaska and Europe itineraries weeks of Nov 9 and 16! ??????

thanks - love the _____ above, did not know we could do that
Yep Alaska 2022 November 9th and Caribbean Nov 16th is what we have seen

Was this the morning that the offer was first announce.  They were very confused that first day, that is putting it mildly.  Royal kept changing their terms and conditions all day long.  I am pretty sure that by the end of day, what they told you in the screen shot does not apply.  You can still receive the double points even with the C&A discount.  But we'll see if @Matt or @Sharla or @michelle can confirm.

sorry just saw this - we have heard that as long as you have your C&A number in a booking made before 12/31/20 and sailing in 2021 you will get the 2x points.

Just completed my 4th Empress L&S.  We had already shifted an Empress Thanksgiving cruise to Allure Thanksgiving so we did another one for the week prior to give us B2B.  We also L&S Empress for Christmas and NY next year on Symphony. Sorry to see this program end but I understand that it cannot continue indefinitely.

well for you its been a great program, and for many others - maybe they will bring it back in some form at a later date
Maybe you will actually sail on Empress one day, lol.

I tried to utilize my current FCC certificates in their entirety for my future sailings. I have a "chunky one" left over (about $2,500.00) and then I believe an additional one that will have about maybe $160.00 or so when I step off the sailing I assigned the majority of that FCC to. My time is pretty much maxed out as far as sailing goes with sailings in 2021. In order not to lose any of the credits do I have to go ahead and book two additional sailings by 12/21 for sailing by 04/22?

Do you think maybe that date would be pushed out a bit? I offered my family to take the hit and do a sailing alone so as not to disturb what they have going on LOL but I received a resounding very loud NO! darn darn darn....

Thanks everyone, any thoughts would be appreciated maybe I missed something!

SO you can use (1) FCC per cruise so if you will have $160 left over after you sail then I would hold on to that $160 if you can.  They "may" have to extend some of these so you might get more choices once the rest of 2022 is released, but you may not - so that would mean sailing on something by April 2022 but redeeming the $160 by 12/31/21

We have sailed on European river cruises, Victory Cruises on the Great Lakes, and four different American Queen/Empress itineraries.  Some considerations include (some already mentioned) shore excursions that are included, beer, wine, and soft drinks included (sometimes all alcohol included).  There is often a hotel night included in the price, including transfer to the ship.  For some travelers, there may be no air fare expense.  Some of the shore excursions include pricey admission tickets.  Almost always no casinos.  Food, in our experience, has been outstanding, with local cuisine often offered.  Small, intimate ships, with great opportunities to interact with entertainers and officers.  Right now there are some major discounts being offered, probably to increase cash flow.  All in all, these options are worth considering!  All the above has not deterred next year's three RCL cruises booked to date.

great input and I agree - to not have to travel by airplane to get to a US port is a great point.  I have always wanted to do the Columbia River and Mississippi

Both are of interest to me.

The cost of Mississippi cruising has so far been beyond my budget for the perceived value for the type of cabin I researched.  I assumed that was due to an all-American workforce.  I'd rather sail Star Class on the ocean or do a rail journey across Western Canada for that kind of money.   I'd like to do the Mississippi but the price would need to come down before I consider it further.

Europe river cruising is very interesting to me.  Family have done many and love it.  I think it's a great way to experience Europe to a much greater extent than you can on a Med. cruise.

I've come to appreciate the value that ocean cruising on mass cruise lines has become compared to small ship river cruising although the service and on board experience is very different so that isn't a fair comparison.

European river cruises are great - yes, pricey but I thought worth alot of what I paid for them.  Some lines better than others but the excursions I really like and the pulling right up to a city, like Paris was amazing.  Will do more of these in my future.  You are right -ocean cruising has a better value for sure

Many are this way but perhaps a new player like Royal could introduce another option.  Time and again people express the desire to do their excursions.  I don't want to pay for excursions that don't interest me.  If they are included you do pay for them and have to choose from their menu of excursions.  That may work for some but thinking beyond the pandemic I don't want to be forced to sit on a boring bus ride because it is the least undesirable excursion option available.

Right I agree - I know the prices are higher but they are more inclusive - food is good - drinks (wine, beer) included - excursions like you said.  I just think smaller ships could be more desirable to some in the future seeing as how if you are on a river cruise, that ports in a town everyday, then you could kick off anyone with flu systems and not have to keep sailing.    Plus an excursion in New Orleans is always a good idea.
