We stayed at the Renaissance Long Beach (not a Hilton of course) and it was a great location. Walkable to the marina area, and our third choice for dining that night (first was reserved for a private event, the other was still covid-closed) ended up being a 100% home run

We stayed at doubletree Hilton San Pedro in June . Right on water , was more than adequate. 

Stay in Long Beach. More hotel/walkable dining options than San Pedro.

Also, my young kids have zero patience and when we go to the dining room if you just inform the wait staff that you would like your food courses expedited they make it happen. We are in and out of the dining room in under 1 hour which in my book is perfection. Good luck.

I don’t by any means consider RC a step up from Carnival. I would say Carnival, NCL and RC are all budget level cruise lines that provide excellent value for a family vacation in different ways. If you are referring to atmosphere and overall vibe though, I would say NCL and RC are much more laid back then Carnival which tends to be more of a party boat. Also, Guys Burger Joint is the absolute best and the location on the pool deck is prime time after a few beers and a swim. I am loyal to RC but I don’t count out sailing other brands every now & then. Hopefully things work out for you on Voyager. 

I am happy to see that your children are intelligent, well rounded and make excellent collegiate decisions. 😀 I’m sure them going to Florida was a bitter pill to swallow. Anyway, on here we are United by our mutual  love of cruising and that is all that matters. Enjoy the game , vandy may get us this year based on our performance thus far. 

I'm sure @tonyfsu21 would agree that less Gators is a feature and not a bug. 
@GatorCruiser 2 of my 3 grown kids are, to my shame, Gators. Lol. We live near Nashville now. We are all going to the Vandy v. UF game next month. Easier ticket than the swamp.

I think at one iteration of the screen name musical chairs this person did admit that like to vomit controversial topics so that it engages the excessive responses that are witnessed even on this thread. Regardless of the optional drink package, people are going to continue to do what they want (as they should). If that includes excessively drinking there will always be a way. If you do away with the drink package the guests who have the financial ability will continue drinking w/o interruption and the guests that have a tighter budget will just find more inventive ways to smuggle booze on the ship. The drink package is a big win for the company. As you mentioned, there are other options but the grass may not be greener depending on what type of atmosphere you prefer. Personally I would rather watch what I have witnessed as a very small percentage of drunk fools on RC than an entire ship filled with grumpy geriatrics mowing people down in motorized scooters on other cruise lines.

Too much money involved and not going to happen. It makes for prime people watching so I personally encourage the excessive drinking! Isn’t it vacation anyway and people are entitled to do what makes them happy. I think you need to just sit in your stateroom and order room service for 7 days because the sun, fun and excessive drinking are not going away. On that note, I am very much looking forward to multiple pina coladas by the pool on Icon all day every day for vacation! If luck serves me right, I will still be drinking free Red Stripes in the casino all night while I piss away my good fortunes and kids financial future but it’s vacation! 

100% refund of cruise fare for this type of “mess”. I have been refunded for a loft suite due to flooding (and that was not poop water). I will PM you an email contact of a corporate contact that has assisted me with that issue and others in the past. At least this gets the ball rolling for you provided you documented it with guest services which it sounds like you have.
