bobroo reacted to tjcruisers in Crack Down on Chair Hogs on Odyssey
I like it, hopefully they keep it up. I'd be willing to give these staff a tip when I see them

When those super competitive chair hogs figure out that each seat cost $1,465, I bet they fly in a day early just to stake their claim.

bobroo reacted to TXCoastPatriot in Tipping in Coastal Kitchen and room attendant
At CK, as well at any specialty restaurant, I tip $10 at dinner and $5 for breakfast and lunch.
A waiter once asked if wouldn’t mind leaving additional gratuity on the bill instead of cash. Said cash goes into his pocket, a tip on the bill goes to his family via his paycheck. Since, I politely ask.
I give a Sky Class suite attendant $50 on day 1 and another $50 on the last evening.

Frankly, the whole tipping system is nuts. Moreover, it is really the cruise companies' fault. They want to collect gratuities as part of your cruise fare but then provide no information regarding how that money is allocated so the passengers have no idea who is getting what and we feel guilty if we don't give more. Frankly, I think that is the plan so that the companies can pay their employees less out of the fares that they charge yet the employees still make a living wage out of the extra tips they receive. It is a system that begs for clarification.

bobroo got a reaction from Sweety in Need Some Help With Pre-Cruise Accommodations in New Orleans
Just this morning I booked the Hilton New Orleans Riverside for my upcoming January stint on Brilliance. I admit I am paying a premium for this stay so that I do not walk outside on embarkation day and it is essentially kitty corner from Harrahs. I'm over spending by $50 for the night probably because of the free hour of indoor tennis I will never use. If I were you I would look up The Riverwalk on Google Maps and ANY hotel within a couple blocks will make for the easiest embarkation day you've ever had.
Many people talk about the crime but my experience with New Orleans is this. The French Quarter is nothing but fellow tourists looking to eat and party. And the Quarter offers me everything I want in an embarkation port--and it is all walkable. Two days pre-cruise is a correct answer and you'll need more if you want to see it all.
New Orleans is the absolute best embarkation port in North America if you fly-in.

bobroo reacted to SpeedNoodles in Can we refill our own water bottles?
You may not fill your water bottle directly from any dispenser, though. You must fill a glass and pour that into your water bottle. But, yes, you can do that.

You’ll soon have to pay to book a seat in the waiting area if you want a premium seat for boarding. The “free seats” will board last.

Put your aunt and your kid in the real bed (split into 2 singles) and you and your wife could take the couch.

Way too many adults in one tiny cabin. Spend a few $$ and get an extra room.

bobroo got a reaction from Freegirl in RC building a Cozumel beach club
Gee fellas, at Costa Maya there is an already unused/closed down/abandoned resort that your patrons could walk to just to the right of the pier. Did you consider putting your money there?
I know the Costa Maya port authority is a tougher group than most, but I gotta think your private beach destination idea would be a whole lot more well received by passengers here than in Cozumel.

bobroo reacted to DoomSlayer in $5 Craps
I was on her when she was in Galveston. Yes they had $5 craps right after the covid lull. That craps table on Grandeur was the only time I saw Security have to arrest someone. The shooter was cut off because he was sliding the dice and they asked him to leave the casino area. He refused and started making a scene. Security circled him and, well, let's just say he ate from "room service" the rest of the trip, had a "private bodyguard" posted at his door, and was escorted off the ship with a new pair of shiny bracelets.

bobroo reacted to JLMoran in Hey everybody. It's been a while!
Just saying a quick hello here, first time in about four years. I just booked the 12-night Odyssey sailing in Jan 2025, which is an itinerary I've been wanting to do kind of since I first started sailing with Royal in 2018 and learned about it. Seemed like a nice way to celebrate turning 55. 🙂
To everyone I haven't spoken with in all these years, hope you've been well!

bobroo reacted to AshleyDillo in Customer Service - A bit of a dilemma - RCB to the rescue?
Sorry to hear this happened to you and I hope someone on the blogs can give you some ideas of who to connect with to try and get this some traction.
The biggest takeaway from this is whenever there is a problem on the sailing you need to make sure you resolve it prior to leaving the ship. Once you leave the ship, there's less urgency for someone to assist you. Onboard you need to leverage every resource you have (Guest Services, Concierge) and escalate until you talk to someone who will do something. If you ever have an issue with a Shore Excursion and make a complaint onboard they often will give a refund, but you do need to be persistent, polite, and do not let them just put you aside and firmly stand your ground and talk to someone higher up.
How much you spent and your loyalty is irrelevant. They should have listened to your complaints onboard and tried to offer a solution while onboard.
