This is a question on the vendor presence. At one of the other "beach clubs" in Costa Maya, our kids were there last week and they said they were inundated with constant vendors wanting to sell them stuff that it made the visit really unpleasant. How was Maya Chan in that respect? We are scheduled to visit the same "beach club" this coming week and am wondering how it is at Maya Chan and if we need to change. The one we usually visit is at the far end of the main drag and usually does not get much vendor traffic but my kids said it was unbelievable this time. Have to make the change today if possible.

I think someone asked us once, if that, but certainly wasn't more than once.

And ordering single packages on the phone? Guess it depends on who answers, as on the phone I was also told multiple times I had to buy two of the same packages if there are two people in my room.

Technically true - but if you say your wife doesn’t drink, they’ve always been able to accommodate as long as the refreshment package is bought for her. If they refuse again, ask for a supervisor.

The Pfizer Vaccine is now approved for all ages from 5 to 11. Will Royal Caribbean require ages 5 and up now require to be vaccinated soon? I certainly hope so.

I don't see it happening before the beginning of the year, at the earliest to allow time for the kids to get vaccinated AND maximize on the holiday sailings with families. After that, who knows what will happen.

  4. Join a roll call - whether on CC, Facebook or here on the blog (if there’s not one listed, create one!) I’ve found, as a solo cruiser, that you can meet ppl and have fun in groups, while still doing your own thing. The friends you make on a cruise can become amazing friends.

  5. I'm on Freedom the 8th-12th as well. I would highly HIGHLY recommend Giovanni's kitchen. It's the New Concept Giovanni's and puts the version on other ships to shame IMO (just bring your appetite)

I am also thinking about adding Giovanni’s again on the Freedom leg because the menu appears to be different!

I'm on Freedom 11/8-12 as well. The Giovanni's on Freedom is the new version, actually called Giovanni's Kitchen. The basic staples of old Giovanni's are there, but the new items are AMAZING. Also, FYI the Wine Bar is NOT included with the UDP - it's all ala carte but they're both Amazing!

  6. Also, when you board, the events play❌akers will show will be on a card on the tables. I also believe the Satellite service Royal uses has ESPN Caribbean which doesn’t always line up with stateside ESPN. There are other sports channels as well but they typically focus on European sports. Not sure where SY will be on the 27th, but if you’re in St. Tho❌as or San Juan you ❌ight be able to strea❌ it. Those are the best tips I can think of. O-H!

I’m in the same boat (ha ha)...booked on Harmony on the 14th after it gets back from the Med...I saw this on page 42 of the updated CSO and it seems promising:

“Modified Simulated Voyage Requirements in Lieu of a Full Simulated Voyage for Cruise Ship Operators Repositioning to U.S. Waters and Intending to Operate with Less than 95% of Passengers Fully Vaccinated

Cruise ship operators that have been conducting passenger operations outside of U.S. waters and intend to operate cruise ships with less than 95% of passengers fully vaccinated after repositioning to U.S. waters may, at their discretion, follow the procedures in this paragraph for conducting a modified simulated voyage instead of conducting a full simulated voyage if the following are met:

✅The ship must maintain a percentage of fully vaccinated crew that is 95% or greater.
✅The ship must have operated with passengers outside of U.S. waters for at least 60 days before entering U.S. waters.
✅The cruise ship operator must conduct at least one simulation of embarkation screening and testing at the port terminal it intends to use in the U.S.—to include the number of passengers not fully vaccinated expected on the first voyage—unless the ship will be operating at a terminal already in use by the same cruise line/brand for passenger operations. (Allure/Mariner use Port Canaveral)
At least 14 days prior to entering U.S. waters, the cruise ship operator must submit the following to CDC:
❓Protocols for how dining and entertainment venues, and recreational activities, including buffets, seated dining, bars (including between bartenders and patrons), theaters, other performance venues, casinos, arcade room, spa services, fitness classes/gymnasiums, muster drills, and other areas where passengers congregate will incorporate mask use, physical distancing, and other public health measures as outlined in technical instructions.
❓✅Plans for training crew on procedures for mask use, physical distancing, and other public health measures as outlined in CDC technical instructions.
❓✅Protocols for increasing the number of isolation and quarantine cabins and on-board support staff (e.g., administrative personnel, testing personnel, contact tracers, medical personnel) as determined by the cruise ship operator and as needed in the event an outbreak.
✅Procedures for how crew will identify and distinguish between passengers who are fully vaccinated and passengers who are not fully vaccinated.
✅Procedures for notifying passengers who booked a 95%-passenger-vaccinated cruise that their cruise will no longer operate as a 95%-passenger-vaccinated cruise, if applicable. (Not Applicable)
❓An after-action report explaining lessons learned from sailing outside of U.S. waters and from the simulated embarkation screening and testing (if such a simulation was conducted).
The cruise ship operator must submit photographs or videos, no later than 7 days after commencing the first voyage with less than 95% of passengers fully vaccinated, showing compliance with indoor mask use and physical distancing, such as signage in elevators, dining table arrangements, and blocking out seats/bar stools.”

For Anthem, Harmony and Jewel - This should all of been in effect. The items with question marks should have also been completed already, just I don't know if Royal has actually provided this to the CDC (I can assume this, but.. ) (I left the question mark with the venue protocols line, as Anthem/Harmony has no list of vaccinated and unvaccinated venues on the Royal Website. (Are There Any Experiences Or VenueAs That Are Closed? | Royal Caribbean Cruises_) (Jewel does have this list)

I can also read this two ways.. a) the test cruise is discretionary and not required or b) modified test cruise IN LIEU OF full test cruise. (Yes, I know it's "Voluntary" in Florida, but Royal has been saying they're following the CDC Protocols so.. if they (CDC) wants it, it'll happen)

That being said, the 64 million dollar question is.. what is a modified simulated voyage? and will Anthem/Harmony/Jewel have to do one?

I agree. But I feel like a solo traveler I wanted to make the most of everything. But now I’m potentially loosing out on the fitness classes I want.  And doing a back to back and being assured that I wouldn’t have to wait in terminal all day long to Reboard    Basically loosing priority check in and being first on the ship you can potentially loose a 1/2 day from both the cruises if I have a late boarding. So that could equal one full day of vacation.

I believe it's to each their own. The only benefit the Key really had was the internet surf and stream 1 package. To me, if that's not a consideration (status, dx/voom, etc) - The Key really doesn't make sense. Especially in 2021. If you're cruising in 2022, I would keep the key for now (you can cancel it in the cruise planner up to 3 days prior to sailing) as the benefits may change back or change again as protocols change.

This happened with the 2021 temporary relief bill. They introduced a bill into Senate and House at the same time. I'm not a congressional expert to know what this is called, but I know it's a common strategy.

The 2021 temporary relief bill was passed by what's called Unanimous Consent. The representative or senator can ask for unanimous consent for a bill to be passed. It's usually (but not always) pre-arranged. As long as there is no objection, the bill is passed from that chamber. BUT, Any single representative or senator can object, and it stops. Remember, the temporary relief bill passed on it's 2nd attempt. There was an objection in the Senate the 1st time around (I don't remember from who or why) but it was passed the 2nd time. Our government acts in crazy ways.
