What it tells me is that until a) better testing or b) effective and pervasive vaccine, there's going to be insurmountable problems. Either the cruise lines wait until a) or b), or they have to base their decisions on whatever information they have, however fallible it may be.
The other alternative is up to us. We can just wait this out for a year and don't blame the cruise lines for what they have to do in the interim.

This isn't a MDR item, but we find it difficult to find onion rings.   You can get them at Johnny Rockets, but can't order a la carte.  Once I bought a meal just to get the rings.  I'd take them at the Windjammer.

MrB reacted to USCG Teacher in Cape Liberty (Elizabeth) NJ Restaurant Recommendations?
As a long-time Jersey resident, I couldn't agree with this sentiment any more if I tried!  I have no idea how IHOPs even survive here to be perfectly honest (but they do, so they must be doing something right!).  As an aside, the Liberty Diner that shows up in a local search for Elizabeth is probably the "diner" in Terminal B at EWR.  A diner in name only.
An alternate choice, if you're looking for a quick breakfast, you can also look for pretty much any local bagel shop in the area.  Not only will any bagel shop in that area have to do pretty good bagels just to survive (standards for them are pretty high in the NY/NJ area!), they'll also certainly serve the "Official Breakfast Sandwich of NJ", the Taylor Ham (Pork Roll), Egg and Cheese, otherwise known as a T-E-C (or the P-E-C).  Personally I like mine on a Kaiser with pepper and hot sauce, but you can have yours customized how ever you like, and you'll be on the road in under 10 mins.  There are also options over in Bayonne including Everything Bagels & Deli on 22nd, which I can vouch for from experience.

The political environment of the last several years concerning the ability to cruise to Cuba indicates to me that RCG and the other lines should be loath to put too much capital into it at this time. I am assuming that there are myriad other restrictions concerning investment in Cuba that we may not be privy to.

This is basically a sea-going timeshare. You could be a permanent 12-month per year resident, but their calculators on the site default to 3 months per year.
I see little or no incentive for the operators to keep up high levels of service once the entire boat is purchased. Yes, they do have all-inclusive monthly fees, but the incentives would be at best to keep it barely better than acceptable. A regular cruise line has to earn every cruiser's trust and $$$ every time a ship embarks. Not so here. They got you, because you already bought into this. Literally.
Could it work? Sure. But you would be taking a huge financial and life-altering risk. Oh, and BTW, you better be very healthy.

It was a fun time of life.  But I really do love the idea of recreating that trip.  Perhaps adding a port or two along the way.  Its a flight of fancy, imagining a dream itinerary, money no object and of course RCCL agreeing to do it

Just to gloat a little bit, I live in Central Florida on the East Coast. That's a cruise day's morning drive to Tampa, Port Canaveral (Orlando), Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) and Miami. Though I will admit that Miami is starting to stretch it a bit.
But then again, the Florida peninsula is way more isolated from the rest of the country than you normally think. For instance, if we need to evacuate for a storm, it can take almost 350 miles to get somewhere safer. When we purchased our most recent vehicle, one issue was that we would need 500 miles of range on one tank of fuel, just in case.

One of the ten Division I college football conferences (MAC) just cancelled their fall schedule. If the other Division I conferences follow suit, which is certainly a possibility if not completely likely, then you can probably forget about US cruising until 2021. If they cancel college football, cruise lines don't have a chance to petition to start up any time soon.
The other major conferences have been dancing around this decision, most are expected to make a "final" call in the next few days.
In the US, cancelling Division I Football is akin to the apocalypse.

Part of my job is to go into nearby casinos and work on their currency sorting equipment in the vaults and count rooms.   At the ones around here they are open but about half the slot machines are off to encourage social distancing and the tables are also only at a half capacity.  Everyone gets a temp check and has to wear a mask (I don't think many keep them on long)

Yup. The MAC schools and some of the other lesser conferences only make money when they play the larger powerhouse schools. That wasn't going to happen this year, so they threw in the towel.

MrB got a reaction from crisgold52 in Royal Caribbean sailings canceled through Oct 31.
Since the release of this notice, Uncruise Alaska ( a small <250 person passenger and crew cruise line not subject to CDC restrictions) came back with a positive case on their first cruise. So there's that...?. And there was the Hurtegruten cruise in Norway at the beginning of the week - possibly the straw that broke the camel's back for the announcement.
It's nuts to think that US based cruising is going to happen anytime soon. What "soon" is - that's the big question. It looks like later and later for every day that goes by.
Personally, I'm waiting until late 2021 or early 2022, and then only if there has been good data for at least six to nine months of sailings.

I had an October 4th sailing on Harmony.
    This is the 2nd cancellation.
Ordered by the CDC.  100% over-reach.  It's not about health or safety.  It is about control.
I opted for full refund.  I don't care about 25%.
I refuse to book another cruise until I see people boarding a ship with my own eyes.
At Diamond level, and it is going to take forever to get to Diamond +.
I sincerely hope that other people take a stand and stop booking.  Maybe the cruise lines without holding money will then take a stand against the tyrants controlling them.

CORRECTION: This cancellation was NOT ordered by CDC. The CDC's order is until and including September 30, 2020. RCCL decided to extend it in order to give them more time to evaluate and correct certain mistakes that their competitor(s) and we are seeing on cruises sailing in Europe, such as the latest Cruise Startup that was just paused on Hurtigen due to COVID outbreak. Let's given them time and slack. This way, RCCL will learn from others mistake and we will be well prepared and healthy and enjoy cruising for years to come.
