We've always done the self carry off, and left when we felt like it, except this last time, we decided to put the luggage out and go on our time schedule. I must say - this was a MUCH easier option than I realized. I figured it would be royal pain, but honestly, no line, no waiting to get off, and bags were right there. Only glitch was my mother in law packed ALL her pants ? and we had a panicked search for acceptable pants the morning of departure (she worry my super stretchy pajama pants off the ship ?). Pretty sure, unless we're in a BIG hurry (and we never will be, because we sail from Galveston and live about 35 minutes from port) - we will mostly likely use the time slot departure in the future. 

Itineraries didn't have to be altered because there were no cruise sailing with passengers!!!  ?

Many of us in New York are without power. I think the last time we had this much of a power loss was Hurricane Sandy in 2012. 
 
On the bright side, cruise itineraries did not have to be altered (even though they did move the ships out of the path).

For me, it just ticks all the boxes for a great vacation trip. And it does it for less than I've seen it cost to go by air with a hotel stay.
Visits to cities I can't otherwise see, with chances to experience their scenery / culture / etc It's only a day for each place, but that's enough to give me a sense of whether it's a place I actually liked visiting in the end, not just thinking "Man, I really want to see this place!"; and that's enough time to decide if I want to experience more (repeat cruise? land tour?) I get good to great food each night without paying extra I have a place to sleep each night, at whatever level of basic or luxury I want to go -- be that through cabin class or ship choice; again without paying extra And I have the transportation to each of those places, with as much entertainment and activities as I feel like indulging in for those in-between days; slower than a plane, but when that means  a chance to recover from a crazy long day (or set of days), that's a good thing!; and once again it's all part of that total cost and not a penny more

In honor of its being decommissioned by Pullmantur and sold (likely for scrap)...here are some old photos of my (now) wife and I at OLD Coco Cay, with the old girl. Id love to see any photos of Sovereign that anyone else has? 

Please don't remove the plain roast chicken, my wife has allergies and is quite a fussy eater. Chicken every night of the cruise without fail.

What a great read! Thanks for sharing! I am sailing to Greece on Odyssey in October 2021 for my honeymoon. This made me very excited!

I haven’t done Anthem out of Bayonne, but I did Explorer out of Bayonne in 2013. My advice is to dress warm in the beginning and end of the cruise since it is cold in February. It takes a day or two to hit warmer weather. You also hit the cold by the last day, too.

I think once more 2022 itineraries are released later this fall, they will extend the deadline.
