Ever since Royal Caribbean announced its intention to build new private destinations around the world, we have been left wondering where and when we might hear more information and it looks like have an idea now.

Amie Keeley from Travel Weekly quoted Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley while onboard Independence of the Seas to say that the cruise line is, "currently in negotiations over 'several' islands in Asia-Pacific and is hoping to announce the locations and features in July."

Bayley also indicated that a new private destination in Asia would be ready by 2022.

At a media event in New York earlier this Spring, Royal Caribbean revealed its intentions to build more private islands around the world.

In a press conference with members of the media aboard Independence of the Seas, Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley spoke about some options the cruise line is considering with regard to allowing guests to stay longer at its private destination of CocoCay.

Adam Coulter of Cruise Critic reported that Bayley talked of keeping ships later in CocoCay, "The next stage is to have longer stays in Perfect Day till 11 o' clock at night and we're building it so we have all the lighting and infrastructure in place."

Moreover, Royal Caribbean is also considering the idea of guests staying even longer, with stays overnight or even longer.  Tom Stieghorst of Travel Weekly quoted Michael Bayley as saying, "We're pretty sure late nights will be a hit. We think overnights could be a hit and we're wondering if a whole weekend could be a hit."

"It would not be a volume component. It would maybe be 10 cabanas of suite-type quality which would be pretty high-priced, and then you'd have the ability to hop on any one of our ships. But there's a lot of revenue and logistical issues to work out with that idea," Bayley said.

Royal Caribbean is in the midst of building the Perfect Day at CocoCay improvements, which will bring a water park, slides, cabanas and more the island. The $200 million project is underway, with the majority of the additions ready for launch in spring 2019. Coco Beach Club, the final experience to be completed, is set to open November 2019.

This is not the first time Royal Caribbean has hinted at an overnight option with CocoCay. In April 2017, Michael Bayley brought up the concept of allowing overnight stays in CocoCay.

Independence of the Seas is an impressive Royal Caribbean cruise ship that completed a massive refurbishment in 2018 to offer all new experiences and features onboard.

8. Largest hibachi at sea

Ever since Royal Caribbean added a teppanyaki style dining option to Izumi locations on Oasis Class ships, they have become extremely popular with guests.  As a result, Royal Caribbean opted to add the first Izumi location to a Freedom Class ship and offer the biggest hibachi in the entire fleet.

Izumi Japanese specialty restaurant has been among the fastest spreading restaurants across Royal Caribbean ships, and Independence of the Seas is now home to the twenty-first location.  It is not only the first Izumi location on a Freedom Class ship, but also the largest capacity for the popular hibachi side.

7. Water slides and water fun

Families are sure to love the addition of the Perfect Storm water slides and Splashaway Bay to Independence of the Seas. 

Independence of the Seas offers two racer slides, Cyclone and Typhoon, which offer guests an exhilarating ride down each slide for a wet and wild finish.

In addition, Splasahway Bay has replaced the H2O Zone to bring the next level of aquatic park fun for families.  Splashaway Bay features water slides, fountains, pools and a really large drench bucket.

6. Laser tag

At special laser tag sessions, Royal Caribbean transforms Studio B into a glow-in-the-dark arena that invites everyone to see if they can conquer the, "Battle for Planet Z".

Guests can don special laser tag vests, grab a laser tag gun and head into the arena for a fast-paced team-game that rewards the group that works well together and coordinates their efforts.  Just like laser tag on land, Battle for Planet Z is a high-energy race with bragging rights for the rest of the cruise on the line!

5. Grease

In 2016, Royal Caribbean added the Broadway musical, Grease, to Independence of the Seas and it is available to enjoy on your cruise with no additional cost.

This stage production of Grease was specially adapted by Royal Caribbean Productions and features all of your favorite songs, such as “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin’,” “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” “Born to Hand-Jive,” “Beauty School Dropout” and more.

The best news about Grease on Independence of the Seas, is that the show is included in the cost of your cruise fare, so you can enjoy a Broadway show while onboard for absolutely no additional cost.

4. Views from the helipad

Independence of the Seas has a large helipad at the bow of the ship, which is a great venue for guests to enjoy during most times.  The helipad is the perfect spot for sailaway, stargazing, enjoying a view of the ocean or just a spot to sit down on one of the benches and relax.

To access the helicopter pad, go outside on deck 4 and then walk forward, climb up a set of stairs and continue walking forward until you reach the helicopter pad.

If you want to go out to the helipad and avoid the flight of stairs out on deck 4, you can cut through Pyramid Lounge on deck 5 at the front of the ship. Walk in and you'll see a DJ booth on the right. Walk past that booth and you'll see a set of doors that look like they're crew only, but they're not. They lead right out to the entrance to the helipad. Only a short flight of stairs and you are there.

3. Cantilever hot tubs

Hot tub Jacuzzis are always a great way to relax and forget all of your worries, and on Independence of the Seas, there are cantilever hot tubs that offer as wonderful a view as they are comfortable.

The hot tubs on Independence of the Seas are 16-person, half-moon whirlpools that cantilever out 12 feet over the ship's side, to offer some incredible views of the ocean below.  And oh yea, they are super relaxing too.

2. FlowRider

One of the more popular features on Independence of the Seas is the FlowRider surf simulator on deck 13.

The FlowRider is a simulator that sends water a very high speed across a small area that mimics what it is like to surf on the ocean. Guests can try their hand at stand-up traditional surfing or boogie boarding.

The FlowRider is included in your Royal Caribbean cruise fare, and you may try your hand at surfing as many times as you like. Just hop back in line and wait for a turn.

There is the opportunity to book private lessons for an additional cost.  At last check, private lessons cost $60 per person and lasts about an hour. Each lesson will have six to eight guests.

Private lessons can be booked onboard the ship and is sometimes available via the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner.

Speaking of moms, Royal Caribbean went the extra step this week by announcing the first ever Godfamily of a cruise ship when it chose Carlos and Alexa PenaVega's family to be the Godfamily of Symphony of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean says they picked this family because they have celebrated a number of family firsts on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class ships, as well as personify the spirit of the new ship, redefining the way families stay and play.

The family will have the honor of formally naming Symphony when she arrives to her permanent home in Miami in November.

Following a multi-million dollar renovation, Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas arrived in Southampton yesterday to begin offering cruises this summer season.

Independence of the Seas received upgrades all over the ship that the cruise line believes with delight kids and adults alike.

Royal Caribbean estimates Independence of the Seas will bring £44million a year into the local economy of Southampton.

Managing Director, Royal Caribbean International UK and Ireland, Ben Bouldin said “Holiday time is precious, and travellers today have higher expectations and more options than ever before. We don’t just want to meet these expectations, but smash them and redefine how to holiday. From our largest yet hibachi restaurant to a virtual reality bungee trampoline experience, Independence of the Seas is set to be the most spectacular ship sailing out of Southampton this coming season.”

Guests will be welcomed onboard for her first new sailing on 15th May 2018 where she will embark on a two-night cruise to Paris from Southampton. Guests can dabble in modern art at the fabulous Musée d’Orsay, explore the Normandy coast, visit glorious Versailles or take in iconic sights such as the Paris Opera, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower.

Following her inaugural sailing, Independence of the Seas will call at destinations across Europe and the Mediterranean until November 2018.

Royal Caribbean was recently honored with two distinctions that honor the terrific work the heads of the cruise line engage in throughout the year.

Royal Caribbean International was honored for its contributions to the communities and environment in which it operates by winning the Humanitarian of the Year Award. President and CEO Michael Bayley was in attendance to receive the award on behalf of the company.

The South Florida nonprofit, Samuel M. & Helene Soref Jewish Community Center (JCC), recognized Royal Caribbean's efforts during last year's unprecedented hurricane season as well as its work in ocean conversation, education and local employee volunteering. More than $200,000 in proceeds was raised at the annual gala in support of the nonprofit as well. 

“This is an incredibly proud moment, to be part of a company that goes above and beyond to do the right thing,” said Michael Bayley. “From our school in Haiti to our relief efforts during the unprecedented 2017 hurricane season, we support the communities we know and love because it’s what good neighbors do.”

Vicki Freed, Senior Vice President of Sales, Trade Support and Service, was inducted into the CLIA Hall of Fame with a Lifetime Achievement award. Presented with the award by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Chairman and CEO Richard Fain, this was a great thanks from the cruise industry to Vicki for her passion and dedication to the business in the span of her 40-year career.

Freed recently celebrated 10 years at Royal Caribbean International, a decade during which the cruise line has seen its relationship with travel partners grow stronger than ever. Under her leadership, the largest sales team in the cruise industry has received a lineup of awards, including Best in Sales and Service for 10 consecutive years at Travel Weekly’s Readers Choice Awards.

Richard Fain, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., presented the award to Freed after a heartfelt speech noting his and the community’s resounding thoughts, compliments and memories of the industry veteran. “Vicki has been an amazing leader. She has fought for her agents and for our business,” Fain said. “I applaud Vicki’s election to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, and am proud to have the opportunity to present it to her.”

Royal Caribbean announced today that Symphony of the Seas will not have a Godmother, rather, a Godfamily by choosing Carlos and Alexa PenaVega, along with their 17-month-old son, Ocean.

This is the first time a family will be the Godfamily of a cruise ship. The selection of a new ship’s guiding spirit, customarily a godmother, is rooted in a longstanding maritime tradition. The role is often held by renowned athletes, celebrities and royalty.

Royal Caribbean says they picked this family because they have celebrated a number of family firsts on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class ships, as well as personify the spirit of the new ship, redefining the way families stay and play.

Royal Caribbean’s nearly 25-year relationship with Carlos began on his first cruise when he was just 4 years old, only to be beat by son Ocean, who sailed for the first time at 13 months.

“Carlos and Alexa have been an extension of our family for quite some time, and they truly personify our spirit of innovation and adventure in every way,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “We’re very excited to welcome them and their son Ocean as the first-ever Godfamily to officially name a ship. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd announced  a quarterly dividend of $0.60 per common share payable on July 3, 2018, to shareholders of record at the close of business on June 4, 2018. 

The company also announced today that its Board of Directors has approved the repurchase of $1 billion of the company's common stock over the next two years.

"Over the past five years, we have increased our dividends fivefold and repurchased close to $1.25 billion in common stock," said Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO.  "We are very pleased to be in a position to improve returns for our shareholders, which remains one of our top priorities."
