    Welcome to the boards!
If you look in the Cruise Compass areas you will probably find the information you are looking for about any potential theme nights. There is no need to "comply" for anyone. IT is all volunteer participation so you can dress as you prefer.

do folks feel it is realistic that cruises out of the US will return in 2021? Does the science support that? Even IF a vaccine comes in early 2021 CDC is saying that it wont be very ready for wide distribution until mid to late 2021. I do not see the cruise industry opening in a meaningful way until that happens. Thoughts?

@Jaymac Radio Just finished posting an email in favor of lifting the no sail order, I read it over multiple times to make sure it was fact driven and devoid emotion. Enough already, we want to sail!

I miss Anthem. We have been on her for the past 4 Thanksgivings and have really enjoyed the trips. Crossing out fingers that we will be able to take that Thanksgiving cruise in 2021. With the way things are going right now things are not getting much better. I doubt cruising from the US will open before Spring of 2021....

    Perspective on the virus:
    1. Half of us are going to come out of this quarantine as amazing cooks. The other half with a drinking problem
    2. I used to spin that toilet paper like I was on Wheel of Fortune, now I turn it like I'm cracking a safe
    3. I need to practise social distancing with the refrigerator
    4. I still haven't decided where to go for Easter - the living room or the bedroom
    5. Every few days, try your jeans on just to make sure they still fit. Pajamas will have you believe all is well in the kingdom.
    6. I don't think anyone expected when we changed the clocks, we'd go from Standard Time to the Twilight Zone
    7. This morning, I saw my neighour talking to her cat again. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. When I got back into the house, I told my dog and we both laughed.
    8. My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee, it cleans the toilet.
    9. I'm so excited it's time to take out the garbage. What should I wear?
    10. I hope the weather is good tomorrow for my trip to "Puerto Backyarda" cos I'm getting real tired of "Los Livingroom"

Yes, good point.  I'd imagine just sitting on the bridge baking in the sun could have a major influence on the enjoyment factor!
I've been fortunate enough to take a few through Europe, but I've never done Amtrak or Via.  I hope to correct that discrepancy sooner rather than later.  Having a son who is into trains will probably help to push the timeline along!

I've done the drive both ways.  It was way cool, and I hope to do it again 1 day.  The only caveat to my endorsement is that we had no traffic issue driving either direction.  I have read of traffic nightmares when there is an accident or some other trouble.

ugh hope this is not true as well - I love Key West and getting there by Cruise Ship is so much easier - although the
drive down is beautiful and you can fly into Key West so there are options.

We have cruised over Christmas and New Years many times.  I completely agree with @twangster.  Everyone always seems happy.  More kids ?  Yes, but it is not overwhelming.  I highly recommend holiday cruising.  It especially takes the stress out of the Holidays, whether you celebrate Christmas or not.

A number of people with influence are waking to the thought that the numbers really does not justify continuing these lockdown policies; yet alone, the shutdown of the Global Economy. More & more are speaking against lockdown measures & no doubt, a growing number of regular everyday citizens have as well.

@Pima1988 Italy and all the other countries that are beginning to open up had far more stricter shutdown protocols. Also my point is these countries have more of a reason to open up in a shorter period of time. In America spring break was still going on and many places were open for Easter. I don't believe we actually did shut down....we never did because I could literally do everything I normally would besides eating in an actual restaurant the entire time. We didn't close off state borders, we basically stopped entertainment...that's what travel, sports, dining out and amusement parks are. I live down the block from a barbershop that didn't close until almost Easter and opened up last week. I am not opposed to the country opening up, I am opposed to the rhetoric that "its about time, we cannot wait forever."

@Cmaccullen There have been numerous reports that CCL and RCCI have enough to stay down until around 2021. I am not saying they should but it has literally been 2 months and a few days.
It seems like people don't want things done right but done fast. This ordeal has driven home how much of an instant gratification society America is......even countries whose primary source of income is derived from tourism have not been in such a rush.

I agree with you @WAAAYTOOO that I wonder if this is even remotely true that Carnical will begin sailing then. Sadly I think this is wishful thinking on everyones part. We are still deep in the pandemic worldwide. First, where will the ships sail from? No port in the US is prepared to open any time soon. And secondly, what countries are willing to recieve cruise ships? It would be interesting to see what itineraries Carnival is booking to what countries and then check those countries policies. I think this is a marketing move on thier part. Put it out there "We are sailing!" and guage interest and collect a lot of deposits with no real plan to be able to actually execute the cruise until the CDC approves them again. With all of the threads here about FCC's and the disposition of them I dont think I would be in a rush to give anyone any money on what is bascially wishful thinking right now.
Maybe thier intentions are honorable here about sailing. I also have honorable intentions of winning the powerball jackpot every weekend but that hasnt happened yet either.

Twangster is correct, there is just too many people in the diamond and plus groups now. Celebrity has suite lounge and suite retreat areas. They make a lot of room for their lounge.  Last time on Grandeur the lounge was filled every night with pinnacle and diamond plus members taking over whole areas, leaving no room for suite guests. I understand loyalty, and expectations of that loyalty. But at the same time royal, if not making changes won’t sell those price hefty rooms. It is a perk of the class of room, it comes with the room at no additional expense. The same as coastal kitchens is a perk.

The ice cream machines had attendants on the last two cruises I was on (last June on Ovation and last Feb on Symphony).  You were not allowed to get your own. I imagine they'll change to this on all ships.

Well I can tell you the Ships would sail from Florida... I live in Florida.. I can tell you Our governor sadly is a Mini Trump. And since Trump believes things should open Most of Florida is open.. South Florida is stated to open May 18.. I could see us being in phase 2 by Mid June... Tourism can resume in phase 2 and I have a feeling by end of July we absolutely will be ready to have ships.. Where do I think they will go probably Bahamas, Coco Cay, Labadee, Mexico, and wherever the Caribbean will let boats dock.. They also could very well leave out of Texas as their Governor also lets things be open.. Everywhere else I think not but that's exactly why Carnival said they will sail out of Florida and Galveston because those are the only 2 places that will let cruise ships lol.. I Strongly feel by End of July Early August ships will leave from Florida and Texas..

I read an article this morning that indicated that the CDC had no knowledge of Carnivals plan to resume cruising and that Carnival had not consulted with them (CDC) about this plan.  Makes me wonder if it was ever real to begin with.

I know people really want to cruise but with all the measures that will likely be in place it doesn’t seem reasonable to pay full or near full price for a vacation that will likely have limited activities, stringent guidelines, masks everywhere, safety checks each port, etc.
You just gonna eat and hangout in your room? I’ve been doing that for 6 weeks now.

I think it will be forever and a day before there are no new cases. Also temperature checks mean nothing, I hate that is the standard that has come about. Every time they interview someone who refuses to wear a mask it is because they have no temperature, therefore they aren't sick. Most people with the virus are asymptomatic and have a regular temp. The only true defense, besides a vaccine, is to be clean and mindful. As much as I would love a cruise, I no longer feel comfortable. The reason being that the average person has not adhered or been able to survive what has been 6 weeks of trying to flatten the curve. Their entitlement has overshadowed all, those same people will be some of the first to sail. They will pretend to agree with the safety precautions, only to renege on the second day...maybe even as soon as sail away. Vacation is meant to be fun and carefree; wearing mask during excursions and activities, constantly taking temp, and restrictive spacing for shows and such is not "fun."
I mean I don't think, mentally, I would be okay sitting somewhere covered up in hazard wear. Like who would want to sit at table in a mask and gloves, while a person wearing the same thing takes my order and brings me food? I would have negative connotations associated with that activity, any activity that reminds me of germs. If the cruise was just hand washing and limited capacity to decrease amount of germs; then I will be the first one on the ship. Social distancing and mask, defeat the purpose of a cruise. Rant aside...I am sure they will sail, regardless of COVID cases or safety precautions as it is a God given right.
