What proof of vaccination are they requiring, the CDC Vaccination Record Card?
That's yet to be determined I believe. I'm from Canada, so no CDC card.

So agree with you about antibody and natural immunity. I think it will come about soon.
Not an epidemiologist, but degree in molecular genetics and molecular immunology.
A study last month in the scientific journal NATURE showed people infected with the SARS virus, one very similar to this one, still show antibody productoion 17 years later.
That being said, antibody production does not mean complete immunity. Being vaccinated for COVID 19 might keep you immune longer than being infected. It's just too early to tell. -
We met in December, 2019 on Oasis. I'll see you again January 15th.

The problem will continue to be the countries (like the USA and UK) who test, test, and test more, trying to identify every case. Then upon finding a case, treating the patient a if they're a threat to the stability of the world.
I'm still in total lockdown in Toronto, Canada. Only essentials open, and what they deem essential is crazy. Can't even get a haircut, since they haven't been open since October.
Americans have lost perspective. We'd bend over backwards to get vaccines. So would 99% of the countries in the world. -

What do you want Royal to do? The rules and regulations are changing daily.
No one wants cruising started more than the cruiseline industry. Sure, it's frustrating, but no one's fault really. -

Well that's good to hear. Why aren't they fully approved at this point and not just approved for emergency use? That would help with some concerns people have if it's that cut and dry.
I agree. I believe that Pfizer and Moderna have applied for full approval in the US. I know Astra Zeneca, Pfizer and Moderna have full approval here in Canada. Not sure about other countries.
Again, not trying to bash anyone who chooses not to vaccinate, I'm just concerned about the ramification logistically, and how it will effect everyone's cruise enjoyment.
Any other scientific questions? I'll do my best to answer. -

Lol… no side effects. I guess we will just forget that the J&J vaccine had to be paused and they are currently investigating heart inflammation for ages 12-16 that have had vaccine
You are funny for someone to talk about science and yet ignore it.
I said potentially cause side effects DOWN THE ROAD. The current vaccines that use viruses as a carrier for the vaccine, Johnson and Johnson and Astra Zeneca, do have about a 7 in one million chance of causing blood clots. This happens almost immediately, and is highly treatable.
What most non-scientific people are concerned about IMO are effects that happen years from now. There is nothing in these vaccines that could possibly cause side effects like that.
Non scientists also falsely assume that covid vaccine research is a recent thing. Covid vaccines have been researched since SARS, seventeen years ago. -

Plexiglass is not science. Plexiglass does not stop virus that spreads through air.
While there have been no peer reviewed articles specific for COVID, adding plexiglass as part of a multi faceted approach does reduce covid contact.

We don't know this to be true, please cite a source if you have one. The issue wasn't asking if someone is vaccinated, it was requiring vaccination for service. So, as others have suggested, an easy work around is simply to offer the option for people to voluntarily provide the information with different protocols for those that offer it up. Is there really going to be someone that got the vaccination that wouldn't offer that information to Royal? There could be, but I imagine most who have been vaccinated would offer it freely.
I thought the issue was you could not ask a patron if they were vaccinated. If I am wrong, sorry.
But ok, you get a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated people entering the ship. Once on the ship, there's no way to tell who is who. You would still have to treat everyone as potentially unvaccinated, with all the testing, masking etc. No? -

I’m vaccinated and trust the vaccine to keep people from getting Covid, but I don’t 100% trust it won’t cause side effects down the road, so I don’t feel anybody should be forced to take it …….. My Body, My Choice, and allNothing in this vaccine has any material that could potentially cause side effects down the road. It produces a protein found on the surface of the covid-19 virus, and is out of your system within a week. (Molecular ganatics and molecular biology degree)
All that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a choice in taking it, but there should be ramifications if you choose not to, one of which is businesses choosing to allow only vaccinated patrons. -

IMaybe multiple tests for unvaccinated guests may be a wya to go. To keep on top of it?
Seeing you can't ask if passengers are vaccinated, everyone must get multiple tests.

I love "unite around common interests and agree to disagree sometimes" but we also need to understand when we agree or disagree those are called "opinions" which we should respect.
Then there's science. Science isn't an opinion. It's true whether you trust it or not.
If you choose to cruise, or go anywhere for that matter, without being vaccinated, you are dramatically increasing the threat of infection to others.
Since the cruiseline chooses not to insist that everyone is vaccinated, they must treat everyone as unvaccinated. That means masks 100 percent of the time out of your cabin, plexiglass everywhere, social distancing etc. -

The biggest kicker in the vaccine mandate debate is that more and more studies are showing that natural immunity from recovering from covid is just as good a the vaccine. I know the CDC allows for a 90 day window prior to a cruise, those who have recovered from covid in the last 90 days is becoming less and less
Please, show us these "studies".

You HAVE to consider not just yourself, but other passengers and perhaps more importantly, the crew.
The best way to consider others, on or off the ship, is to vaccinate. Remember, if an outbreak occurs on the ship, everyone's cruise will be ruined, not just the unvaccinated.
-
With everyone being treated as unvaccinated, this means that everyone will have to give a negative test done at least 3 days before cruising.
I have side to side cruises booked. Valiant Lady, which will be fully vaccinated, then Odyssey of the Seas. Since I can't get a PCR test for Odyssey, does that mean I have to cancel?Royal caved to Florida, plain and simple.

So many unhinged people! Why is "Choice" and "Opinion" such a bad or incomprehensible words ?
I suspect Disney will also follow RCCL!
Because choosing not to vaccinate and to keep the ability to infect others will mean pre-vaccination rules for everyone at best, infecting other passengers at worst.

Personally I would never use one. I'm not criticizing, I just cant think of anything I don't like doing myself.

This, the biggest issue for me has been dealing with "issues" that have come up after booking. It has been a nightmare with all the cancelations.
It's been mentioned on this blog all that MEI's Sharla did for us when Royal chartered our cruise less than 6 ,months out.

Some people actually book it themselves, and then transfer the reservation to the TA after. It's an extra step, but if you really liked that sort of thing, you could do it.
This includes booking from NextCruise. I've booked cruises there and mentioned my TA when booking so they can get credit.

Putting myself first, and not feeling guilty about it.
I'm a widowed dad of 3 kids. My wife passed away when our twin girls were 3 and our son was 6. Now that the girls are 18 and my son is 21 I can cruise solo and not feel bad about not spending every second and every dollar on them.
They are great kids, but I need my "me" time. -

That’s an OSHA responsibility (Department of Labor) not the CDC.
They work together. CDC provides the science and recommendations and OSHA enforces them.

Why on earth should the CDC be regulating anything, cruising or otherwise?
Health. Regulating industries that would otherwise put employees in danger. Meat packing plants, for example.

Is lunch not provided on port days on the ship for free?

Isn't it free for breakfast on Oasis class ships only? I don't recall free breakfasts on Mariner.
