Yeah, it was a smaller ship, and it was a terrible idea, now imagine an Oasis class ship running into the same problem

It would be a very interesting exercise if someone tracked a sick person at Home Depot and did contact tracing.  I wonder how what would work out....My point is that we already have uncontrolled spread going on a myriad of other ways.  I find it comical how this is picked on while a zillion other issues are unaddressed.

Appetizer: Build  your own charrcuterie (I majored in music not English...I know that's spelled wrong ? )
Entree:       More entrees without mushroom sauce (why do they put mushrooms on so many things?)
Sides:         Green Beans, sweet potato, fried corn (I'm a simple girl)
Dessert:     Anything with cranberry and orange together

Cranberries and orange together make a wonderful dessert!

Was there a standard rotation of items in the past?  I didn't realize the menu was consistent enough to require "updating."

I think the update is for people who frequently cruise.  I cannot cruise super often (due to work, family obligations, and multiple young children) so it always seems new to me.  I hope they do not go too zany and dump too many classics (like my wife's favorite.....the shrimp cocktail or having a steak on the menu nightly for my daughter).

In general whichever RCL ship you choose to go with kids is good seeing as RCL caters to a Family Demographic and for those young at heart. The Explorer like many ships in its class has dedicated kids spaces on board and a general family friendly feel.

I've been on HAL and Viking but those ships are quite boring for a family demographic and generally the ages on non-family type cruises like those or even Regeant 7 Seas is 60+ or higher. I only stick with family friendly lines now. And RCL does it really well.

An excursion in Orlando post-cruise would be Kennedy Space Center with Airport Drop off, or in Miami a fan boat tour of the Everglades again with Airport drop off. When would this be , in 2021? One would hope there will be new norms in place by then.

Hi!  The plan would be October 2021.  I am hoping things would be some kind of normal by then.  But.....I thought we would be back to normal by now when this whole COVID-19 mess started.....Thanks for the tips!

  5. I am thinking .of the cruise below (9 night on Explorer of the Seas out of Galveston) and had some questions for the wonderful group brain on this board.

1.)  Is Explorer of the Seas a good ship?  I know people like Liberty of the Seas really well, but it has more mundane Western Caribbean itineraries (done that twice, have never been to the Bahamas).  The Jewel of the Seas sailings to the Bahamas do not line up with my job very well (cannot easily take vacations in the first quarter of the year).  I know Galveston is limiting, but it is a drive versus a flight and saves a lot of money.

2.)  What is good to do as a cruise excursion in Miami and Orlando given the times?  It would be my wife and I and a 10 YO girl and a 6 YO boy.  I wish it was going to Key West, but that may not be a thing for cruise ships at all.

    Thanks everyone!

I was able to do just that on the new website, you put the last name and the number of the FCC and it tells you the amount you have. But now i am not able to get the new website...i always have the old one. If i remember correctly it was before you choose the number of persons...but im not sure.

I found that the other day as well and cannot for the life of me find it again.....I soooo wished I had bookmarked it.....

  8. Hi!  Does anyone know of a web site to verify the balance on future cruise credit certificates?  I had applied some to a canceled cruise, and my understanding is that they would be reactivated as I opted for a cash refund of the additional payments made on the new cruise (quite nominal....did not want to mess with limitations over a small difference).  I want to check on the old numbers to see when active so I can reach out to a travel agent with everything ready to go.

    Thanks!

    J

  9. Hi!  I was booked on the 9/25/2020 EOS sailing out of Galveston (booked myself using the web site).  It has not been officially canceled, but it obviously will be due to the CDC no sail order extension.  I had applied two FCCs to it from a prior canceled cruise.  I will plan on getting cash back from any additional payments for this cruise once it is canceled.  Can I use my old FCCs (have the numbers and everything) and start from ground zero on a new Royal Caribbean cruise with a place like MEI?

At this point, I am tired and want someone helping me as I have been through this rodeo and am going to go through tracking everything all over again.  I do not plan on booking anything new until things start up again (unless it is really far off and I can use FCC only to fully cover a deposit).

    Thanks all!

This virus will be the excuse to end many things that we used to enjoy.....at this point, nothing surprises me or is unexpected in the name of Covid or social distancing or whatever term they come up with next.

I agree 100%.  Even if it is not to blame, it will be the excuse for all the changes central planners wish to make....

Have you tried appealing this "rule" ?  I think some have been successful in having it overturned.

I did.  It took over two hours on the phone and a supervisor.  It got applied correctly.  I think I won because it was the same party doing a kids sail free cruise to moving another kids sail free cruise.

Now, this FCC is applied to a 9/25/2020 cruise out of Galveston on Enchantment of the Seas.  I just hope there is not another fiasco if (most likely when...sadly....) cruise start-up gets delayed again....I just want 2020 to be over.....Maybe I can see if the mothers of the world are still making offers to slap people into next year.....

and just another example of what is the wrong way of handling refunds or future credits

Absolutely wrong.  I paid i should get all the credit back to me to use as "I" see fit.

I get annoyed when my kids, with a kids sail free booking, get FCC.  It can only be used on cruise fare.  I purchased a cruise on a kids sail free cruise.  The next cruise is kids sail free, and I cannot use it.  That is the unfair part to me.  The part paid for my wife and I are being allocated to people who may not be able to use them in time....I think the whole FCC thing is a mess and pretty arbitrary....

I will say the other vaccinations are quite different: having to get vaccinated for the measles or chicken pox is not the same as the flu....or in this case COVID.  I also believe that if they make a vaccine it will be available worldwide, this is a pandemic. My point still stands that as a leisure activity they have a higher chance of forcing a vaccination. If you can afford to cruise, you can afford a shot. It would be no different than requiring shots to visit certain developing countries. Also, remember that some of the biggest travelers, those from Asian countries, are working on vaccines as well.

I am just fearful that government schools will mandate that all people must get the vaccination for COVID-19, if it comes out.  That is my concern.  I do not like to take any new drug, as it cannot have had a good longitudinal study performed.  I agree it is a different kind of vaccine (probably....as the information is just not fully known), but people are acting so differently about this as compared to H1N1.  Our government leaders may try to mandate it just like masks.  I am not concerned about the cost (I agree...people who can afford to fly and take cruises on vacations can most assuredly afford a vaccine....) of the potential vaccine but the safety of it (don't even get me started on the debates over the risks and rewards of Gardasil).

@Mrs. Thomas I don't think the government will make it mandatory but I wonder about cruise ships. As a leisurely activity, they could sort of get away with enforcing vaccinations. I personally won't be getting the vaccine until extensive research and testing have been done, even then its only a 50% chance.

My fear is that schools will make it mandatory for children....Kind of like kids who are not given all the non-flu vaccines are not allowed in most public/private school settings.....I am fearful of giving anything to my kids that I feel is rushed......
