I would avoid the deck immediately below the pool and Windjammer to avoid overhead noise from moving chairs, etc.  I’ve always found Deck 8, midship to be convenient. 

We are on Deck 8 Aft in a few weeks, ocean view balcony,  I will try to remember to tell you how it was.  ?  It is surrounded by rooms; however it is near the Aqua Theater. 

I like deck 7 aft.. have easy access to the boardwalk.. and central park, it's in the middle of everything.

I like being either close to the boardwalk or the pool deck. If the cabin is somewhere in the middle of that, you will always have to wait for the elevator no matter where you are going which in my opinion is a pain in the ... 

Deck 8 was where I had a large balcony midship and it was pretty convenient other than it was smack between both elevator banks. At least I didn't feel like I made the wrong decision when choosing which elevators to take because of this.  It was only a couple flights down to the Boardwalk and Promenade and on the same floor as Central Park which was super convenient.

Sailing Oasis in September out of NJ and the prices were amazing at the time especially given it's a revamped ship. This will be my third time on Oasis (2010 & 2012) and cannot wait to see all the changes. You and your kids will love it. I think everyone has given you excellent sightseeing ideas, especially @Pima1988 with the dirty water dogs...YUM!

I live upstate NY a bit and would recommend the drive if you're into that kind of stuff, Hudson Valley isn't far from NYC and is full of hiking, history (West Point, George Washington House, FDR Library, etc), shopping, vineyards, and breweries are popping up ... But, with 3 days you might want to stay in NYC.
I am also big on EWR.
