As long as they can’t get better accuracy with the results... who can trust a 30% rate of false negatives??

Looking at several reports there is a rapid screening test that is intranasal vs blood, the test takes about 15 minutes for a negative result and a positive result in as soon as 5 minutes.  Ok even though I work with needles all day I have been stuck with far too many diabetic lancets and know that those things hurt far worse to me than sticking me with a 16 gauge needle! My fingertips hurt for DAYS after each and every one.?  I can also say that I would prefer either of the aforementioned tests vs some of the current tests that go through the nose and into the back of the throat.  I have seen those things administered several times and it makes me absolutely CRINGE each and every time!  It is almost a new form of torture, I am grateful that they have come out with less invasive testing!   There is a black line on the swab and its hard to believe that they have to go all the way in your nose to the line.?

Could definitely see this used for cruises. I mean we get to the port super early and usually sit for 30 minutes anyway. If its just a prick of the finger, no big deal. I don't want that stick up my nose into my throat but prick of the finger, no big deal at all. I just want to freaking go!

Tests are great but they are a "right now" snapshot of your state.
Who is to say that the very instant you become infected you will test positive 5 seconds later?  How long does it take once infected before you do test positive?  10 minutes?  One hour?  8 hours?
You are in a hotel room the night before the cruise.  You take an Uber to the port.  Between the two of them you are exposed to the virus but it hasn't taken hold to the point you test positive.
The last passenger in an Uber sneezed and the Uber driver didn't clean their car very well between passengers.  You grab the handle of the Uber car door that has virus on it as you step out at the port.  You unload your luggage, hand the porter a tip and you touch your face to scratch that itch.  Sixty seconds later you get tested.  The virus has been introduced to your blood stream but it hasn't multiplied or taken root.
You pass the port instant test with flying colors, board the ship and the first thing you do is start drinking.  Your drunken immune system can't fight of the multiplying virus within your body.  It reaches critical mass and now there is enough virus in you that you do test positive, except you've already tested negative, boarded the cruise and it's day 2.
The porter is now infected from your cash tip and is interacting with other guests arriving every 30 seconds.  Twenty five percent of them become infected but they get tested 60 seconds later when the virus hasn't taken hold in them yet.

"If" the CDC makes the call next week, why would it be to soon? I pretty confident they won't make a rush to judgement call. The call wouldn't be much different if they made the call an additional 60days after the 100days. It still has to meet & achieve some criteria for a call to be made.
I understand we look at the media drilling in our minds, how dire the situation is currently; so, on a individual level, many project some amount of time out. However, I'm suggesting, technically, if the matrix deem conclusive, they could call it well before July 24th. That's what the stipulation for...and yes, it work both ways, and can be extended. I'm simply pointing out, the "which ever come first". Neither one of those stipulation possibly may not happen...then you will see another modification as the CDC, has stated.
As far as we know...thing can get better by Memorial Day.

We all, as one, need to book cruises in order to help the employees.  I, for one, have several already booked. I hope they don't get cancelled.

Though I appreciate your sentiment not all of us, as one, want to rebook. My business has been shut down, no income coming in. We can feel bad for the employees being laid off, but there are those of us with cruises up in the air that would prefer Royal cancel and isssue refunds so we can support our own families at this time.

Did you actually book a sailing, or did you put the $200 down at NextCruise to book in the future?  If it was the $200 to use in the future, those are non-refundable deposits. If you actually booked then it would depend if you booked refundable or non refundable (I"m guessing the $200 would be a non-refundable, but not sure.) Anyone else?

I saw the article last night, gives hope but it is pretty scathing. I read the other day, Just want them to do the right thing so we can go back to life even if it is a new normal.  I understand we can´t get back to early. I know you can´t blame the CDC, but they can´t blame cruising for this outbreak either. I can´t wait to cross the gangway on to the ship and get out on the open sea. I agree if WWE is essential cruising has to generate enough income to open the ports asap.

I agree, you can´t blame China. Our own govt downplayed it, South Korea was yelling about it early and seemed to do a good job. It looks like the Pacific cruises are more in jeopardy long term as of now.

I think you’ll be on land unfortunately. I asked a friend of mine who was Hotel Director on Oasis and he felt the Fall should be ok and that RC will probably bring Oasis class back first. Those 4 ships each had over $400 million in revenue last year. Makes sense to bring your big money makers back first. Generate some cash flow.

The best thing everyone can do is just sit tight and once cruising opens up, we need to support them by booking and cruising as soon as possible. This is the way we all, AS ONE, can show our LOYALTY, LOVE and SUPPORT for the crew, for the cruise line and most importantly, for CRUISING!!!!
