Just had a thought. If masks are required onboard does that mean we can all temporarily agree that shorts in the MDR are fair game. If we’re all going to look ridiculous we might as well suspend any dress code.

No..not that warm here yet, few days of 85 but not too humid....and yeah, I cant imagine.

Point being...its not realistic imho to spend a vacation south on a beach or on a cruise ship if masks are required and not optional.

I could see it being required to show up until you are confirmed clean. But then hopefully put it back in your bag.

Can you imagine the guests walking around in full formal wear like tuxedos and also being in a mask?

Good luck drinking, smoking, eating, swimming, getting a tan with a mask on..lmao..unless you enjoy spending all your time in a inside cabin watching TV...but that's not why I cruise nor why most ppl cruise.

Not sure how you warm you guys are getting north of the border, but we’re finding out quick here in DC that 92 degrees and oppressive humidity don’t mix well with a mask.

This is my major concern.  I could live with masks, but not with severe availability limitations.

I don’t think if we see either masks or table  guests limits that it will be a big issue as the number of guests onboard will also be severely limited. So you may go from 6 to 3 on a blackjack table but on an Oasis class ship you may got to 3 or 4 thousand passengers.

I think that they'd do a secondary evaluation (as opposed to just denying boarding based on one value).

Yes. Currently out in Vegas for employees if you pop on the scan you can either turn around or sit down for 15 minutes and go through again. If after that you are still above the threshold they give you secondary screening.
if there’s not a million false positives when it’s 110 degrees in Vegas we should survive coming back from the beach in Nassau.

I was able to apply a FCC to a cruise that was almost paid in full.  The FCC was more than enough to pay the remaining balance and the net result was a nice refund after the FCC was applied.  That was almost 2 months ago.

At the time,  I asked if I could book a new cruise and use FCC for the deposit.  I was told that wasn't possible.

Sometimes it seems like they like to make up new rules just to keep us guessing.

Gotta keep changing the rules so no one can keep up

I'd definitely say entrance to the main dining room(s). Could also see them at the entrance to the casino, Promenade/Esplanade, and Boardwalk.

Also could become incorporated into the podiums used by security. Thus covering embarking and disembarking the ship. Plus entrance to any age restricted events (night club).

Just think a lot will come down to how fast the scanners would work. If it requires guests to line up and wait that would be a cumbersome challenge in free flow type areas.

On Fremont street in Vegas they have walk through metal detectors that have been converted to temperature scanners.

I wonder how Alaska plans to implement this.  Up to this point you would walk off a plane or ship and you were on your way.  Are they going to set up government agents and a queue like immigration?  Will every airport and cruise port have this?  Do you need to do it in Juneau then the next day in Skagway and then the next day in Icy Strait Point and then the next day in Ketchikan?

By day 3 of the cruise a 72 hour test is no longer valid because you had it done 2 days before the cruise started so does that mean you can't disembark at any port after day 2?  Day 3 is Skagway but your 72 hour test expired the day before?

    "Show me your papers!"

Seems like the way some countries behind an iron curtain work.

I don’t think nearly any of us will ever see this. It’ll be a requirement this year and fall by the wayside next year.

One or two of my kids' doctors who still don't take credit cards, only cash or check (although one of them let me use Apple Pay Cash on my iPhone the last time)

Apple Pay and phone mobile payments getting proliferated to places we never thought they would may be one of the top things to come out of this “new normal” it’s so great not to dig in my pockets, get out a card, touch a terminal. Just hit a button twice on my watch, hold it near the terminal, and.. paid.

It's a ridiculous requirement. Everywhere you go you need a test? That is no way to do business. It's totally ridiculous, especially within the same country. If it were for foreign travelers I still wouldn't understand it.

I think our Canadian friends would beg to differ. They’ve been restricted from inter-province travel for months. And this is the same requirement Hawaii has put in place, also the same as Florida put in place for anyone from the New York area.
I totally get it with Alaska and Hawaii as they basically are foreign countries, there are already very different rules for what you can bring into Hawaii without violating agriculture laws.

That is completely insane. What kind of BS is that? How the heck do they expect that to work? That to me mean no one can travel there basically. Plane, ship or driving, no one can really comply with that.

They didn’t say you couldn’t travel, just to bypass the quarantine you need to show a negative test.. I’m not sure where you are, but in Maryland you almost seemingly can’t swing a cat without passing a testing center that anyone can get a test at.  I’d gladly go to one today if it means I could cruise tomorrow.

Will other states now place this requirement on travelers coming from Alaska by air?  Will all states place this requirement on all domestic air travelers?

What a mess this will become.  You can drive inter-state but not fly or cruise.  Hmmm.

I just wish I could become the guy who could develop a five minute test. Just imagine, you walk in the door of the terminal, through some Disney-esque people directing gates, and by the time you hit the check in desk it already knows that you are negative, opens the gates and lets you check in.

I’m still waiting for my first refund. If not received by the 28th should I pay anyway for the next cruise. Trying to see if I can use that for leverage with Royal if I haven’t received my refund I guess.

I think I’m the past others have been able to apply a FCC to a cruise that was already Paid in full and got a refund cash credit back for the debit balance. I’m think it might have been @Lovetocruise2002 who did it.

I wonder if there be different compliance models when in a US port and in international waters. E-muster for example. Muster drills take place prior to departure and a plan to keep people apart may appease those scrutinizing. Casino is open only in international waters, so potentially different rules.

The casino could be open in US waters, it just would require a US gaming license and a slew of taxes that wouldn’t be advantageous.

  16. 7 minutes ago, JLMoran said:

On the one hand, I agree there's a chance for different rules. On the other, the ships still go to ports all around the globe, so I imagine every one of those ports is going to want to know that some consensus measure of "appropriate" precautions are being taken in the casino, just like in the buffet area or other community spaces.

I think as with emissions standards, the most restrictive regulations win out. RC won’t be able to say, hey we’re in international waters we can do what we want and then come back to a US port like nothing was wrong

I am very curious how this casino ordeal will play out. Just picture a hot roulette table on an Oasis class ship right around 9:00pm and you can see that social distance is going to be tough. Personally I am not going to pull my mask off every time I want to take a sip of my drink. Make no mistake about it though, RC will figure this out as a TOP priority. Without the casino revenue they will be screwed. Too much money pours into that casino for them not to be thinking about resolution moving forward.

In Vegas they have put a limit of four people on a roulette table. Traditional card games are three per table, and 3 to a side for six total on craps.

Not to argue with you but I got to Vegas in June 4th the day they opened I am currently still here and will be for another week.. So here is the deal each casino has different rules. All Caesars owned properties require you to wear a mask while playing table games. Any MGM hotels including Bellagio do not require masks because they put up the plastic plexiglass instead.. Also they have been constantly cleaning the chips offering people sanitizer and social distancing tables and slots. So I don’t know what your friends are talking about lol because trust me I hate the mask but if I want to play at Flamingo I gotta wear it. And let me say this also if people start to crowd the table the pit bosses come over and say step back 6 feet so crowding.. But I do agree if Vegas can open cruises can open. I feel safe in Vegas and I would feel safe on a cruise!

That’s precisely why almost all of the footage is from “independent” properties, like the video above is from Cosmo which owned by Blackstone (at least today it’s up for sale and there’s rumors of the tribe who owns the hard rock brand buying it) or down on Freemont in the Boyd or Derek Stevens properties.
