Hotel Casablanca is nice. We usually stay in a "family suite" with two bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with two twins. It is great that my spoiled teenagers do not have to share a bed, and I sleep better not in the same room, but same suite as my family. I think Matt the blogmaster agrees on this!!
It's not a Hilton. It is a small, local place, so go in there with that attitude and you will be happy. They have tiny, windowless rooms, rooms with windows, and suites with terraces. We will stay there again. No closets... but it is a night or two before a cruise, so I do no unpack. Many places nearby for all meals, from $ to $$$$, and shopping from typical port stuff, pharmacies, grocery stores, and Marshalls for forgotten items. Church, museums, and parks nearby too.
We have also stayed in the Sheraton Old San Juan, even when it was the Wyndham, it's nice, cold, and has that big hotel feel. We have stayed in the Conando district at what was the Wyndham, and at La Verdanza. Both are fine, and it beach is what you want, or a place to stay before a very early flight.
I like Casablanca the best. But hotels are like food, tastes vary.
I would not want to deal with the hassle of parking in Old San Juan. Uber or taxi both work fine.
    Wear your walking shoes!
Ahh... Old San Juan. I can just see the Christmas Decorations now!!

A step in the right direction, but they really need to extend longer IMO.  At least until summer 2022, or allow us to stack them.

Common sense really, if you are happy to cruise with measures and restrictions in place then book a cruise for 2021, if you dont want so many restrictions in place then dont book it for 2021 leave it for 2022 and hope things are back to some sort of normality by then ?
One thing he missed out though, if you book a cruise for 2021 and dont enjoy it due to all the restrictions dont bloody moan about it lol

Stop worrying about pinching pennies, and spend the money to stay in Old San Juan. A $100 difference isn't going to make or break you, but will add SOOOO much more to your vacation memories.  Remember, it's one of the oldest cities in the western hemisphere, full of history and charm. I can't recommend staying there highly enough!

Mrs. RoyalMoyal reacted to bhageerah in Face masks at sea.
Trust me I am active as well, I am a first responder as well as I work part time in the local ER, in essence I am at work well over 300 hours per month. That means that I wear a mask FAR more than the average person on this thread, and to be honest and WAY OVER THEM.  But I realize it is a necessary evil at the moment, I am not someone that sits around and just watches TV it has taken me 5 years to do it but I have dropped 120 pounds.  That being said going on a cruise and being catered to is one of the draws for me.  I would be happy not having to work, come home and get ready to head to the part time job, come home and fix dinner, help the kids with their homework, make sure they clean up after dinner, and keep twin teenage girls from killing each other. ? Being on a cruise for me means complete relaxation.  I will be active and end up in the gym, and also forgoing the elevators and taking the stairs.  All this being said this whole thing is personal and depends on your personal preference.  For me, since I have to wear a half face respirator and eye protection at work just wearing a mask is a definite downgrade!

While the common flu has a distinct season and it becomes less prevalent in warmer months, CV-19 doesn't share this characteristic in exactly the same manner.  Nonetheless it does appear CV-19 varies so that it is more prevalent in colder months.  Whether there is a direct relationship to temperature or indirect as more people stay indoors due to colder temperatures isn't clear.
Masks by themselves don't stop the virus in its tracks.  The unknown is where the numbers would be given the tendency for an increase in colder months had masks not been introduced or used to the degree they have been.   The same is true of other mitigation efforts.  If we had used masks but never introduced social distancing where would the numbers be?  We don't know.
Similarly we don't know where the numbers would be had no mitigation steps been taken.  No social distancing, no masks, no partial or full closures of bars and restaurants, schools unchanged, churches wide open and cruise ships sailing like there was no virus.  What would the death count be if none of that was done?  We'll never know.

Could I wear a mask on a cruise?  I could.  Do I want to wear a mask on a cruise?  No.
The bigger issue for me is not being able to self explore.  If I can fly somewhere and I'm allowed to be a tourist (while wearing a mask) why can't I on a cruise?
The requirement to only take ship excursions and never leave the ship otherwise makes the mask question irrelevant to me.  That is not how I want to travel on vacation.
?  Welcome to the Hotel California.  You can check in any time you like but you can never leave.  ?

I have zero issues wearing a mask in all public areas.  Hubby works in healthcare.  He wears a mask daily.  Kids wear a mask at school.  If wearing a mask in public areas means that we can get sailing again and keep others safe, then we have zero issues with it.  My biggest issue (as I have said from the start) is our closed borders and 14 day quarantine.

I wear one every day at work, and it's a physical job.
At this point, I've become used to wearing a mask.  If I have to wear a mask on vacation, so be it.

To be honest, the only thing that really bothers me about wearing a mask is when we get customers in the store who have made wearing a mask the hill they're gonna make their patriotic last stand on......they come up to us and tell us how we're sheep for wearing a mask.   My usual response is "My mask is for your protection not mine.  I'm in close contact with 100s of clueless people each day I'm here....how close do you want to get to me??"

Normally they have a team right sized for planning cruises 2 to 3 years in the future.  Now that team is scrambling with reinventing cruises longer than 7 days into 7 days or shorter focusing on 2021.  Furthermore they are all in their pajamas trying to help school their children remotely from home.
They aren't looking at 2022 into 2023 because they can't.

Just stumbled across this. It looks like many prayers have been answered, and FCC's for people who cancelled under the cruise with confidence program have longer to use their FCC's!! If this is the case, I know for one, this will help me immensely. This was copied from RC directly

When can I redeem my Future Cruise Credit?
    A
If you cancelled with our Cruise with Confidence program, your Future Cruise Credits can be used toward any cruise that sets sail through April 30, 2022, and must be redeemed by December 31, 2021 or 12 months from your cancellation date – whichever is further.
If Royal Caribbean cancelled your cruise as part of our COVID-19 operations suspension, you have through April 30, 2022 to redeem your Future Cruise Certificate and cruise with us again on any sailing departing on or before April 30, 2022.
For all Global Suspension announcements before December 2, 2020, guests must use their 125% FCC by December 31, 2021 on any sailing departing on or before April 30, 2022.

No drink package necessary for me. I grab red stripes from either the Suite lounge, Diamond Lounge or casino bar for 7 straight days. By day 7 I swear off alcohol until the next voyage & I replace beer with the Peloton at home.

That said, if I didn't feel happy sailing with Royal, all the C&A perks combined wouldn't have enticed me to continue this far.

Joe, I owe you an apology.  Apparently you did the math and I didn't bother to.  You are right !  If all of these cruises sail, I WILL be Pinnacle in April !  It sounded too good to be true, but I did the math, and you're right !  It will take me 48 nights to accumulate 190 points (actually 192) so we should make P on the second half of our Liberty B2B (April 18-25).  I, however, do not really believe that those first 4 cruises will sail (Oasis X2 and Symphony X2).  At any rate, it should be some time next year unless things go terribly wrong.  My goal was to reach P before we did our TransPacific on Ovation in April 2022.  That shouldn't be a problem....fingers crossed.
