Peter D Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 We just got off the Anthem out of Southampton for our 14Jun2024-21Jun2024 cruise. The casino was smoke free for the whole cruise, which was very nice. Is this just a Southampton or European thing or just an Anthem of the Seas thing or are all casinos transitioning to smoke free?
twangster Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 UK thing. It's a law in the UK that forces the ship to go smoke free inside. Sadly cruises from other European homeports do not have smoke free casinos. CruiseGus, Last2Know and Peter D 1 2
loki007 Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 I wish they'd extend that to the US, one of the reasons I prefer Celebrity recogneyes, Last2Know, CruiseGus and 5 others 8
twangster Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 The smoke free section of the Icon casino worked well. The new smoke free casino areas on Oasis class work well. Rumors are some earlier classes may get smoke free casino areas in upcoming dry docks. Larger ships like Freedom class have the real estate for this. It’s not clear if smaller ships will ever go this way. billdauterive 1
F1guynz Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 The casino on the ships based in New Zealand and Australia are also smoke free. twangster, CruiseGus and SplashOfWater 3

It's so bad on just that class it travels well outside the confines of the casino. I gamble a lot but I find it hard to for long periods on that class simply from the overwhelming smoke. Ampurp85 Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 I would be more inclined to sail smaller classes if they had a non-smoking casino. SplashOfWater, billdauterive and CruiseGus 3
SplashOfWater Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 The casino on Adventure is really bad for smoke. They've crammed so many machines into that casino and have the tiniest non-smoking section that it doesn't really matter where you sit because you'll smell the smoke. It doesn't help that most of the machines I want to play are in the smoking section. I usually complain on every post-cruise survey about the smoking in the casino, especially people that don't realize the main casino on Oasis ships have a non-smoking side. That being said, there have been a few times when sitting in the smoking section that I have run into some very courteous folks that ask me if I mind if they smoke before they light up. Ampurp85 1

It was like that on Grandeur, Freedom and Navigator. My issue is that the non-smoking sections are small and not well advertised. It was one row on Grandeur and maybe two on nav and Freedom. On Freedom in May I had to point out so many times, I lost track, that this was the non-smoking section. I had a guy look at the wall see the sign and then start to light up next to me. I have sinus/allergies. I can put up with a little smoke but not it being directly blown in my face. Which is to say I have never run into folks who ask if I mind, it is always someone coming in, not playing the games, but wanting to smoke because it more convenient than going to the deck. Yep, I definitely see more of these folks than the considerate ones. Plus you get the vapers who don't consider it smoking so they do it anywhere, including their balcony. CruiseGus and Ampurp85 2

Absolutely this! I get so irritated when someone comes up behind me to watch the craps game while lighting up and no intention of playing! There's only 1 craps table (minus Oasis and Icon class) and it's only open in the evening so it's not like I can move to a different table or try at some other time of day. I had a lovely person ask if I minded if she lit up. I replied “actually I would appreciate it if you didn’t”. She then got angry and told me I was in the smoking section. I replied that they didn’t have these machines in the non smoking side. She was still mad and muttering when she walked away. SplashOfWater 1
RCIFanatic Posted July 13 Report Posted July 13 For those of you that haven't been on icon yet, the ventilation system is truly amazing. I could play during the busiest of hours and not smell any smoke on the smoking side of the casino unless someone was smoking directly beside me. And the non-smoking side is basically the same in terms of smell as the smoking side. That's just how good the ventilation is on icon. SplashOfWater and WAAAYTOOO 2
Ampurp85 Posted July 13 Report Posted July 13 The ventilation is pretty good on Oasis and Quantum class as well. I could be in the non-smoking area of the larger casino on Wonder, Odyssey and Oasis, and not smell much. But if someone is smoking directly next or behind, it becomes a moot point. My major gripe is people who think the whole casino is smoking, when there are signs not only on those machines but the walls surrounding them. RCIFanatic and SplashOfWater 2

You won't understand until you're on it It looks like Utopia has the same filter columns...we shall see how that works out. The non-smoking section on Icon was large and I think that helped a lot with the smoke not infiltrating as much. I always entered from the Music Hall or escalator side so I never really traveled through the smoking section. SplashOfWater and Ampurp85 1 1
CHart Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Entering from the MDR you could smell it some but there was enough air flow. So much so that if you had a dress and you were walking through, watch out or you could Marilyn Monroe yourself. Not so much air flow on the non-smoking side. It also felt like there was a good split of action on each side. Looking forward to go on Utopia where it has a separate non smoking casino. Icon is still my favorite casino. SplashOfWater 1

I'm guessing quite a few of you were wearing tribute ear patches this week. There's a lot of things that negatively impact my enjoyment of life, but I take them in my stride. Cole Thornton Posted September 21 Report Posted September 21 I found the ICON and the Oasis class ships to be not a smoky as the smaller ships. It is comical that a company that says they put safety first would subject the majority of the gamblers to second hand smoke. Time to get serious about passenger safety and go smoke free in the Casino Royale. SplashOfWater and Villageidiot 2
WAYNO Posted September 27 Report Posted September 27 Oh I try not to be that Karen. I know if I go to a casino, I'm gonna get smoked on. Quantum was smoky last week. But I never let it impact me. If it was obvious I was around a lot of smokers, I simply moved. Problem was, on that ship, I never once saw a distinct smoking or non-smoking area. And I still had a wonderful time. I remember well, the cigar bars aboard ship. I miss them. I don't consider myself a smoker, but very occasionally I'll smoke a cigar and thoroughly enjoy it. The pool smoking area on Quantum, I purposely walked thru just so I could see folks smoking cigars. And they were. And I was envious. WAAAYTOOO 1
