Icon Crowed?

Recommended Posts

I will be setting sail on the Icon in July and have read different things about it feeling too crowded. Is this true? I would think with all the different things to do it wouldn’t feel crowded at all. Has anyone experienced the Icon and felt it was too crowded?

Total opposite. It felt the least crowded of any RC ship I’ve been on. Very good flow throughout the ship.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. A new boat like the Icon with high demand is at or near capacity most of the time. And I've been on plenty of ships at capacity during peak vacation periods and especially the newest ships do a great job of never feeling too crowded. If it didn't feel too crowded now for the person who commented, it won't in July.

I was on Icon the first week of May. I never once felt like it was crowded except at some of the pools which in my experience has been the case on every cruise I’ve ever taken. Everywhere else people are really spread out I thought. They did a great job of designing the ship so you don’t realize how many people are on there

Thank you for the comment. I’m looking forward to my July sailing!!!

We are currently on Icon and the CL concierge confirms that we are at full capacity. Last night the ship did not feel overcrowded. Even the casino was not packed like we've seen on other ships. There are more families on board and maybe not as many gamblers. One casino host said the casino was fairly empty last cruise.

How is the kid/teen situation? Is the ship overrun with kids/teens now that summer season has started and they are at full capacity?

I don't feel like it's more crowded with kids/young teens than the Allure or Wonder cruises we've been on recently. We didn't spend much time on the pool deck yet so I can't really say how bad the kid situation was there. I have seen more older teens and young adults (early 20's) than we typically don't see on other cruises. Maybe we just don't hang out in the same spaces as the kids.

The ship is beautiful. I love the venues with the windows (something that's lacking on the Oasis-class ships). If you're not a pool person, the Overlook is a great spot to relax. It's air conditioned and even when sunny doesn't feel hot. It reminds me of the Observation Lounge on the NCL ships. We didn't notice any kids in there, probably because there's nothing for them to do.

We have another sea day tomorrow. I'll let you know if my opinions change.

I loved the overlook.  The seating there is very comfortable.

I can't wait for Icon. I'm on Liberty of the Seas and the line for the Windjammer for breakfast on our first sea day was out to the pool!

That reminds me...The traffic getting into the port was fine, but once you got near Terminal A for Icon it was horrible (we arrived around 9:45am). All lanes alongside the garage/terminal were packed. Everyone was doing either bag drop/pick-up/or drop off. Fortunately we were in the left lane and saw a couple of cars heading up the ramp to the garage. We did the same.

When we got up there the two cars in front of us were turned away by a staffer. When we got up to her she asked us if we were just visiting or boarding. We said "boarding". That was the magic word that allowed us to pass! We parked and took our bags down the elevator and dropped them right at the bag-drop area without having to deal with the traffic.

I'm sure traffic would not have been so bad if we had arrived later. I think we hit a time when people were finishing debarking the previous cruise and waiting for a ride to take them home or to the airport.

I am on it now with what they claim is record capacity.  I think close to 9500 including crew.  Some area are congested but they have done a great job scattering things around and improving the flow. The new elevator systems helps, and added staircases all around also moves traffic.

Show up early for the Aqua show. We arrived 45 minutes before the show tonight and the place was already close to half full. A lot of the comfy seats and the bench seats with backs are reserved for Star Class guests. My husband uses a mobility scooter and cane to get around so we were able to get the comfy chairs they reserved for disabled guests. It's a fantastic show...best we've seen so far (which includes Harmony, Allure and Wonder).

I'm following along with your posts over on FB for this cruise, I'll be doing Liberty to Bermuda in 6 weeks...so what you're saying is order room service or hit MDR for breakfast on the first sea day? Got it.

Yeah, I'm the early bird so I'll make a WJ run early...its the other two that'll be a struggle. I'll order them some donuts and Cereal for when they wake up while I go enjoy some french toast and bacon. 😁

Or go early. It's amazing the difference in crowds from 8am to 9am to 10am
