ScottD Posted February 18 Report Share Posted February 18 Everyone says they hear the perfect day song all day and it drives them nuts, I was on Coco cay twice this past year and recall hearing it maybe once...not sure if it's played in a certain area or on the trams or something, but I just never heard it! Of course, there's no way I would know whether they play it on shore or not since I never EVER get off at PDCC anymore ! I was DESPERATELY looking forward to it just to say I've heard it, but...if they played it on the ship it was before we left the room and I *think* i heard it faintly as I was on the tram heading back to the ship at the end of the day.... It's all those things and crass commercialism......but what the hell! Of 3 cruises we've taken that called on PDCC , only heard it once on Wonder last April. And I think the cruise director seized complete control of the PA system. Didn't need to open the cabin door to hear the song or the CD. I thought Wolfman Jack or Cousin Brucie was onboard. jeffmw Posted February 21 Report Share Posted February 21 We always comment on how bad we feel for the band that plays when you walk onto the island because they have to stand there and play that song over and over, not only for hours, but day after day. It must haunt them in their sleep. It's possible they killed it because it had run its course. It's also possible there was a licensing deal for the song that ran out. Usually, it's fair game to cover a song. Any band can cover a song at any time in a live performance. But that song may have been commercialized to a point where Royal might've had to buy rights to it. More likely, though, they're just done with it. And when I first read this thread, I wondered about the song. I didn't know it, and I've never heard it. My Wife has an even better memory of artists and music, and when I asked her, she also did not know the song. So if the little washy-washy type folks are playing this song, either in the Windjammer or on the island, I wouldn't have known what it was. Freddy Mercury perfectly captured that time with Queen's performance of Radio Gaga in the '80s. Them was the days....................
