BENEFITS TO BEING AN RCL SHAREHOLDER?

Recommended Posts

As title suggest, I have recently invested into RCL and became a shareholder of this stock. Planning on holding long, basically "set it & forget it" approach for this one specifically.

I've noticed some publicly traded companies offer perks/discounts/benefits for being a shareholder. A perfect example is AMC offering free large popcorn/refills/ exclusive discounts/points to its shareholders. Link below to see their AMC shareholder link:

https://www.amctheatres.com/stockholders

MY QUESTIONS:

  1. Does royal caribbean offer any benefits or perks for being a shareholder?
  2. If they do, where do I go to see their benefits and how to I verify myself as a shareholder.
  3. If they do, has anyone taken advantage of their benefits and how do you feel about the program?
  4. If they don't, are they planning on incorporating shareholder benefits this in the future?

Thanks in advance and if you have any additional helpful insight/comments it would be most appreciated!

I am not a shareholder, but I do know if you have 100 shares you can get $100 OBC for every sailing.

Also, for reference, there will be post already related to some of your questions. Either here or on the actual blog.

Much appreciated, I can never find an existing post or thread so I just made my own. Thank you for letting me know, i'll continue digging for them and delete this one if needed!

And 100 shares right now means you'd need 100 cruises to get your money back via OBC.

So don't buy RC shares just for the perks.

That makes sense but i've been invested since a few weeks now at $85/share 😭

some decent perks for frequent cruisers and it applies to every sailing.

I have been an investor for quite a while and have not had any issues receiving or using the OBC. I use the online form listed under FAQ #3 (How do I redeem) to request a couple of planned cruises at a time and the OBC is posted to my cruise planner in 3-7 days.

who or where do you send this online form you filled out to?

are these extra steps necessary for all sailings for OBC?

Here is the link to the online "form".  https://rcg.questionpro.com/a/TakeSurvey?tt=286lFZCRCioECHrPeIW9eQ%3D%3D  Yes, it needs to be requested for every cruise.

One important clarification is that the OBC is only available for purchased cruises and NOT for any reservations made using any “Comp’d” credit such as Casino Offers. I applied for several booked trips last month which was quickly credited to the one full fare reservation but denied for our Casino bookings. This is clearly stated in the investor FAQs however I figured I would at least list them in case they snuck through.

I've been a shareholder for several years now. I bought it for the shareholder benefit. Lately, it has performed very well, although I'm still underwater from where I bought it earlier.

I've used the shareholder benefit many times.  I've had issues with the on line submission. Sometimes, I'd submit and never see or hear anything again.

Since then, I've submitted via email and found it much more reliable. Occasionally, I receive a response that they can't verify my ownership. A follow up email has always resolved this promptly.

Send the email to shareholderbenefit@rccl.com. Attach a copy of your brokerage statement to prove ownership. (You can use a marker to redact your account number and any other holdings, then scan it in, if you want to keep that information private.)

In the body of the email I use the following text:

Please process the shareholder benefit for my upcoming cruise as follows:

Guest Name: XXX XXX

Ship: XXX of the Seas

Sail date: November 26, 2023

Booking number XXXXXXX

My brokerage statement is attached.

Thanks!

this is absolutely helpful, i'm a big gambler and been starting to take advantage of casino comp'd cruises rather than booking directly with RC at full fare.

I can verify this.  Any fully comp'd casino cruises are denied, but "dollar off" casino rates are still eligible just as normal pay ones are.

just to clarify, any discounted cruise fare would qualify for OBC just not comp'd cruises in general i.e. BOGO deals, 60% off specials, etc?

Note that on shorter cruises (5 nights or less) the OBC offer is $50, not $100.

Just sold 100 shares at $109 last month.  Made 180% profit in addition to the OBC perk on a few cruises.  I won't be getting back in unless there is another significant drop.  Buying in 2020 was an absolute no brainer (and again in summer 2022 when it dropped into the 30s again).

Conflicted if getting in at an absurd position to keep me holding the bag for benefits OR getting in at a discount to enjoy profit and benefits?

I see myself cruising with royal caribbean indefinitely but sometimes the price action gets really enticing to sell but once I do its hard to get back in again.

My cost basis over 3 purchases was in the $38 range if I remember correctly.  The jump following their earnings report to $109 was too much to resist, especially since it had been more than a year since the last purchase.  I had planned all along to sell once it recovered.

We bought during the pandemic at almost rock bottom stock price. $31. So far we’ve gotten a total of $700 in OBC.

My attention were in other stocks when everything went on discount during the shutdown but i regret not checking up on RCL during that time. what a steal for $31/share with a 100 shares only costing $3,100!?!? My holding avg is beyond doubled that position 😭 nonetheless i'm planning on just leaving 100 shares and forgetting about it as I book more cruise with RCL
