Age for kids in their own cabin?

You can book the kids in their own cabin by calling RC directly or your TA can do it.  It can't be done online.  It must be the room right next door or directly across the hall.  I've done it and many others say they have booked this way too.

 

There are also connecting rooms.  I usually have my TA search for those.

 

Even with kids in another room, I always bring 4 bottles of wine.  Never been questioned as I take 2 and my husband has 2.

Thank you. Is it possible to arrange for everyone's keys to open both rooms? (or keycards? - never cruised before, so a little unclear on how it all works)

They'll create a new card that doesn't having charging privileges for the second door. One card cannot be programmed for more than one door.

 

Regarding wine, it's two bottles per cabin, so that means you can take up to for bottles without a corkage fee.

We do something similar all the time.  I have 2 kids (6 and 2), so we book my wife in one room and me in the other.  But in reality, the kids are in the one room and my wife and I in the other room.  Works quite well.

We actually currently have an interior cabin booked for the Apr 28 sailing of Majesty of the Seas - all 4 of us in one cabin. I see that there are several places with adjoining (only 1 set of connecting) cabins still available, including a string of 10 neighboring oceanview cabins. I wonder what the chances are that the prices on those will drop in the next couple of weeks?

I assume that if I want to change our current 1-cabin res to 2-cabins, I can call RC and just pay the difference?

From what I've read and my experience, albeit new, prices only go up as you get closer to your cruise.

If your cruise is April 28th, you should have made final payment and the price is set.  I am sure you can add another cabin but I don't know if you can remove 2 guests from your current reservation to a new cabin.  You could always ask but I wouldn't expect much.

 

Prior to final payment, you could adjust your cabin and get a price drop.

I wouldn't expect a refund since it is after final payment - I'm just wondering if I could pay the difference between booking one room and two ... and wondering if the prices for an oceanview cabin might go down a bit in the next couple weeks since there are still several empties on the ship.

It certainly doesn't hurt to ask.  My fear is, however, that any changes to your reservation now will mean that all of your rooms will be repriced at the current rate.  If the prices have fallen, great, but most likely, they have only gone up.

 

The worst that can happen is that they reprice everything and it is more than you want to pay and you keep what you have !!

Here are the rules according to Royal Caribbean:

  • Age policy FAQ

    No Guest younger than the age twenty-one (21) will be assigned to a stateroom unless accompanied in the same stateroom by an adult twenty-one (21) years old or older. A guest's age is established upon the first date of sailing.

     

    This age limit will be waived for children sailing with their parents or guardians in connecting staterooms; for underage married couples; and for active duty members of the United States or Canadian military.

  • Cruise Ticket Contract:

    No Guest under the age of twenty-one (21) will be booked in a stateroom unless accompanied by an adult twenty-one (21) years of age or older, except for minors sailing with their parents or guardians in adjacent staterooms, or for under-aged married couples (proof of marriage is required) or except as otherwise permitted by Carrier’s policy. Carrier reserves the right to request proof of age at any time and Passenger’s age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation.

It's not required that an adult be booked into each cabin as long as the kids' cabin is adjacent to the parents'.

I was able to rebook our 4-person interior cabin as 2 exterior 2-person cabins today and only paid the difference, which was minimal. Now we'll have more than twice as much space, 2 bathrooms instead of 1 - and we'll ALL sleep better!

So when we booked the Symphony of the Seas for Thanksgiving on the Navi, the wonderful agent at the Next Cruise desk told me the following: as long as the stateroom is across the hall or next to you they can be issued their own stateroom.  This was to my surprise as on previous cruises they would not let this happen.  My children are 16 and 12.

Royal wouldn’t let my 19 year old son board alone when he joined me on Adventure for the second half of a back to back I did in 2019. 
 

I had to leave the ship and escort him back on.  To be fair, they did let us get back on immediately.  

Even trying the logic of “he can enlist in the navy without me and go on one of their ships” didn’t work.

My kids were 14 and 12 the first time they were in a separate room from us, two years ago. We had used one of the Royal planners at that time and she booked them directly into the cabin next to us. That year, we got connecting cabins so we didn't get separate keys (connecting cabins honestly don't feel fully like separate rooms with the door open).

This past year (the second time in their own room), since we had balconies but not connecting cabins, we just used the balconies to go back and forth between the rooms. We used an MEI TA for that booking. You can get another card for the rooms that just opens the room door and doesn't allow charging privileges from guest services. We put the kids' room card on a lanyard and hung it near the door in our room so if we needed to get in and the balcony was locked or there was bad weather, we could get in. We usually just knocked or texted/called them, however, and saved the card in case there was an emergency. 

I would check in on their room here and there to make sure they weren't leaving a mess for the cabin steward to clean up.
