MY PARTNER CANNOT MAKE OUR CRUISE. CAN I STILL GO ALONE?

IF you treat your partner’s booking as a no-show at the dock, you can still go for the price that was paid. If your partner cancels, your booking will reprice. I believe port charges will be refunded if a no-show at the dock. If I’m wrong about the port charges, please someone correct me. 🙂

That has been my experience.  BTW: the person sailing will get the double C&A points for travelling alone.

Not necessarily. We just sailed Odyssey last month and our friend's husband could not make the trip. He was a no-show rather than a cancellation, but Royal told her numerous times that she is not entitled to "his" C&A points from that sailing.

We originally assumed she would get 32 points for this sailing since it qualified for the double point promo (8-night sailing).

She spoke with Guest Services, Loyalty Ambassador, called Royal CS when we got home... I even sent a FB message through their page...

She is thinking of writing a letter... If anyone has any suggestions, we're all ears!  😀

Just a quick update... our friend spent over an hour on the phone on hold with C&A and a resolution team this morning again and they stated since her husband did not cancel pre-cruise that she is not entitled to double C&A points as a solo in a double-occupancy cabin.

Of course if he had cancelled as they suggested, they would have repriced her cabin at the current solo rate which would have been higher than the original rate we booked. Just a stupid rule... pay fare for two and get nothing in return... no refund (other than port fees/taxes) and no additional points. We just feel bad for our friends. Rant over!

Isnt it easier to change or cancel a cruise because of covid?  Couldnt you just cancel this cruise and rebook another cruise and not lose money?

(unless this was a break up and the possibility of a future cruise is not on the table)

Yes, that's definitely an option to consider especially if your party/family is traveling alone. It was more complex with us because we were coordinating our vacations and her husband did not know for sure until the last minute that he could not make it.

We were going no matter what because it took almost 6 months for Royal to straighten out the whole FCC/refund issues from our prior cancelled sailings which were finally resolved and applied correctly to this sailing. We are finally clear of all pending FCC/refunds. She knew she would not get a cruise fare refund, but was hoping she would at least get the C&A points since a solo cruiser that books a double-occupancy cabin gets double C&A points. Now we know and life goes on!

Call again in a couple weeks.  I've been told the same and called later and was told yes.

Another option is to find someone else that would like to go and take them instead.  Only one name has to stay on the booking so if there is a friend or family member who would like to go and can get the time it should be simple enough to make a swap.  I have done this before when I booked a cruise and didn't have anyone to travel with then found someone to go with me and changed the name on the other space for the person going with me.

Hi all,

My partner cannot make it on a cruise we booked for the 10 April out of Barbados. Can i still go alone on the same reservation without cancelling and rebooking a solo?

My sister was a no show on our Sept. 2021 Oasis cruise and I received the 32 points.  I only told RCCL when checking in at the port that my sister will not be coming.  RCCL automatically gave me the points after the cruise.  I never asked about the points before the cruise.  I figured that if I didn't get the points I would email them and dispute it.

  • 1 year later...

I would appreciate feedback on my situation from someone who knows... We have a group of 11 people going.  We have paid for 12 in 3 rooms but one bed is a to be determined since we figured we would still find another friend to attend.  So, room 1 is a casino offer in my name with 2 others on the room and a paid to be determined.  Room 2 is a casino offer with my cousins offer and 3 others on the room.  Room 3 is a casino offer with my friend and 3 others on the room.

My cousin, room 2, is no longer able to go and we are 39 days before our cruise.  All 3 rooms and 12 people are fully paid.  I called Carnival to see if we could remove my cousin and rework the passengers to whomever in the party qualifies for a casino rate.  And, if we moved one person from room 2 to my room which still has a paid bed/to be determined, that would leave 2 passengers in room 2 after my cousin doesn't go.

This is what I was told... nobody has any offers available.  Nobody else qualified for a casino offer and I asked well, thats fine, one of the others on room 2 cruises a lot and what about one of her VIPF offers.  They said oh yes she would qualify for offers but none are available because it's only 39 days before so they won't allow her to use it, and because the boat is at capacity so they don't allow any offers.  And, if I remove my cousin, even if moving one person to my paid room, we lose the casino offer when my cousin leaves and the room gets repriced at regular rate with no offers.  We will pay an additional $650 for the cabin for the two remaining people AND pay $100 cancellation fee for her AND her fare won't be refunded.  So, basically they're saying its still going to cost me my cousins fare which was $575 +$650 fare adjustment +$100 cancellation fee for her.  So an additional $750 and we have removed two people from the room, albeit the one with the casino rate but knowingly they admitted that others on the room would qualify for an offer normally and when we booked.

Are you kidding me?  First of all, why do I have to pay a cancellation fee on a fully paid fare that is not being refunded for the cancellation?

I'm not kidding you @Nicole H..  Especially when I tell you this is a Royal Caribbean fan site, not  Carnival.

Generally you should expect increases if you make changes close to sailing, but you'll need to work it out with them.  You might inquire with frequent Carnival guests about what would happen if your cousin just simply did not show up.
