We leave in 9 day and I am so excited. This is our first cruise! If you board early how can you get drinks and food before your sea pass cards are given? Can you use cash?

Cannot use cash, but can get all the drinks, etc. you like. You use your set sail pass that you used to board the ship. That acts as your seapass card until you get the actual card.

Happy sailing!

Ships like Harmony are moving high-tech, and they are speedy on the embarkation process.  Reps with tablets greet you and process you in.  If you haven't uploaded a photo, the rep will take a photo with the tablet.  The representative will also scan passports.  The Sea Pass cards are placed in your cabin (one envelope outside the cabin).  Your Set Sail pass is the key document until about 1PM when staterooms open.  The ship cash registers and rooms are "tap and go", you don't slide the Sea Pass card.

Always carry cash on your trip but leave it in your stateroom safe until you need it for special tips or casino. (You need a few $$ at embarkation for the luggage porter, of course.)  Normally, gratuities are prepaid, but at the end of the voyage you can always recognize someone special with provided RCI envelopes.

Ship vs boat has been debated seriously and in jest for years. A classic difference is a ship can carry a boat but a boat can not carry a ship. But then there are specially designed ships made to carry other ships that have been damaged or are not sea worthy. Does that make what was a ship a boat?

A more recent technical description is any vessel larger than 500 ton displacement is a ship.
