It's very interesting that you say this....
Many years ago, when we were still very new to cruising, we met a couple of cruising veterans in San Juan and spent an entire afternoon chatting.  They told us that one day we would no longer be "in love" with cruising in the Caribbean and we would need to branch out and start doing other kinds of itineraries.  At first glance, this seems like a very Captain Obvious kind of statement but it's taken us a while to actually get there.  We truly have evolved in our cruising style(s).  We no longer get off the ship in many of the Caribbean ports.  We are no longer satisfied with the MDR meals.  While we still LOVE cruising, we really are getting tired of cruising in the Caribbean !  Since we are still working, it is difficult for us to do the longer and more exotic itineraries, but once we retire I can see a big change to the way we cruise.  I think this happens to most long term cruisers.  You see it with the Pinnacles.  Of course they still cruise in the Caribbean from time-to-time but they definitely favor the longer and more "unusual" itineraries.  I can't WAIT until we can do some Baltic states and Persian Gulf and Pacific Island and Australia and New Zealand and Far East cruises - all back-to-back !  ?

I know this may be cruise blasphemy, but where do you like to vacation, when you are not cruising?
    Just a question, not a suggestion! ?

You're right about Galveston politics @twangster. It's been a crazy political climate with a thriving "good ole' boy (and girl)" network since the pirate Jean Lafitte arrived on the island in the early 19th century.  It continued through the gambling and prostitution of the first half of the 20th century, and is alive and well today.
Up until now the Port of Galveston has invested in improving the cruise terminal assets on a shoestring budget with local funding.  Early this year the Port hired new Port Director Rodger Rees (the Deputy Executive Director and CFO at Port Canaveral).  He's brought an outside perspective and knowledge of how to run a large cruise port.  I think his leadership was key to Royal agreeing to build and pay for the terminal instead of the Port building and paying for it.  Of course the Port being many months late on expanding Terminal 2 for Liberty of the Seas a couple years ago probably helped Royal decide they need to control the Terminal 3 project.  It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

A place for everything and everything in it's place. Sounds reasonable to someone who once told their family during a Disney trip there was no time for pictures! What? We were on a schedule! ???
They will not let me forget it.

What we use when we were traveling internationally was  Across the Body bags especially designed for travelers. They have steel reinforced shoulder straps, RFID pockets, room enough for a point and shoot camera, and most have a water bottle holder.
Wife has a BeSafeBag by Daymakers and I have a Travelon Anti Thief Classic Bag. Both on Amazon. Mine is a bit larger than hers and can hold a 10" tablet to her 8".

    LMAO
My husband and I have nicknames for each other.  You can see my moniker is PIMA.  He gave me that nickname 25 yrs ago during a fight.  I called him anal, he responded if I am, than you are a Pain in My A...
Not only does my husband have blue folders for everything in our life, but different blue folders for each aspect.  1 for our monthly bills due, 1 for paid, 1 for tax deductions, 1 for our DDs wedding, 1 for our cruise (planner to be left with our son while we are away), 1 for cruise docs (excursions pd., etc).  I blame this addiction on the Air Force

First, it is called a cabin and a deck. Now you can sound like an experienced cruiser. ? We always pay additional gratuities (you prepaid the gratuities, right?) toward the end. Tipping up front, is like tipping your waitress at your restaurant at home, is soon as you sit down. Makes no sense to me. Some people like to do it that way, any that is fine. We have not seen any lack of service with our cabin steward by tipping at the end. Unfortunately, we have not been able to tip any of the MDR staff extra. We usually find bar staff that deserve extra, though.
    Enjoy your cruise!

The news story and video clips are likely part of the process as they try to edge the settlement needle in their favor.
The cruise contract has verbiage that covers taking photos and video.  A cruise ship is not a public place, it's the property of the cruise line.  The crew can restrict you from taking pictures or video at any time.
Bottom line - it's an unfortunate accident.  Accidents happen across the country every day in theme and amusement parks.  The media has an odd fascination with anything that occurs on a cruise ship while often ignoring the same events occurring on land as mundane and not news worthy.

He was treated for a fractured pelvis and dislocated shoulder. Allegedly, the pelvis required multiple surgeries and a nine-day hospital stay. Given that he is in a wheelchair and getting around pretty well with the news/videos that is being shown and will be shown to the jury if it ever gets to that point which I highly doubt, and moreover, he has not expressed constant pain and doesn't require physical therapy, in my experience, this will settle for $75k - 250k. He will never see $10 million.

There's still plenty of island that hasn't been developed.  I'm quite confident we can still walk a bit further down the beach and be completely alone.  Last time I was there I went on an hour walk without meeting anyone else (and just saw a few at a distance).  If you stay in the most crowded areas, yes, it will probably feel crowded, but that's your choice.

My first thought wasn't actually the crowds, it was:  that's gonna confuse some passengers.  It's weird to me but I know there are people that have no idea of what  ship they are on.  They just think the name is "Royal Caribbean".   To have two or three docked at the same time?
Here's hoping there's not two Oasis class ships at the same time.....

I'm hoping I'm on the right track here ...... We're on Freedom late March of 2020, and I know the "Amping" of Freedom is supposed to occur sometime near this time ...
So, I was just on the web site and noticed that the month of February is completely unavailable ..... Hmmmmm, it would seem logical that this is the month for the AMP.
I hope so, we'll be one of the first sailings after the amp.  Check out the pic.

i say slap em with a huge fine but keep them coming to the US ports.   Any absence of Carnival in the US market place, while highly unlikely, will probably cost us more money simply from Royal taking advantage of the extra business gained from it all.

I don't think this is something that would really take off considering that in Florida you have all the theme parks. What could RCCL offer in a theme park that Universal, Seaworld or Disney can't?
